The new format is too compressed and is too overloaded with text, it also hurts your eyes, the old one was much cleaner, plus there is a weird difference between the homepage and the rest of the forum.

well come on now, I didn't offer a comment on modern web design standards because I'm nostalgic for 90's web design standards, that wouldn't make much sense lol

I question the idea that adding 100 pixels of width to it would suddenly make it significantly less mobile friendly. Having said that, it is not my intention to support mobile devices.

that's a crying shame dude, you wouldn't believe the number of internet users who browse the web on mobile now in the year 2014
sorry you're not going to try and cater to that audience too, but good luck sincerely

Ok. Non-HC users opinions weigh heavier than actual users. Dully noted. I don't know what your priorities or policies are, but don't make alienating the HC feel from its users one of them. I personally liked how it was, unique, in a good sense. Now, it looks like some cheezy blog with this fixed pixel format.

Sorry if we dampened your enthusiasm, but I think we all want what's best for HC. If you just want us to lie to you to feel comfortable or appreciated then that's ok, we can manage. But I thought being truthful even if it hurts a little is a higher form of appreciation.

That said, you could do whatever you like with what's your, regardless if we like it or not. But that would tell people something. You'd tell people something.

What will you say to us, Val?

This is basically how the homepage is for people not using widescreen monitors. It's very easy to read and see all the information with a glance compared to the wide view. The problem now are those wide empty spaces on the edges. Can't have so much unutilized space, even if the old style as only an illusion and actually worse.

Valid point on the difference though.

Personally I prefer the old (I have a television screen format for PC so it fitted perfectly, now is distorted), but didn't post any opinion because I have zoom plugin installed on Firefox, and with it at 170% I get exactly the old format layout. We can set it to custom (accordingly to specific sites) so it sets automatically to 170% when I enter HC, advice to everyone preferring the old: use it.

So no reason to complain. If you enjoy adding modifications which can be reverted by us using only a plugin or other firefox goodies, then no need of drama.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I also second everything Stevie said. It doesn't matter what someone from outside HC thinks, it matters what we users think, because we're the ones who are actually using HC. Having a preference for the old page we're used to is not a bias.

But I can't complain too much, since the old home page is still available. But the Heroes Community link at the top of the page still leads to the new front page, and that's how I usually go to the main page, so I'll have to interact with the eyesore of the new home page anyway.

Edit: I also don't like the spammy and irrelevant "HC Games" section.

I'm going to be blunt here, Val. Get this garbage off HC.

Yes, same with Sal here, although, I dont use a plug-in and I do have a wide-screen monitor (standard 20-inch iMac), Firefox remembers the zoom settings for each site, that is, when I set HC to 133% zoom, it only opens HC with 133% zoom, nothing else. So, I got rid of the empty space that way, although the fonts appear a little big sometimes, naturally.

wow, a lot of hostility. what valeriy meant, was that an unbiased eye(read: non-hc individual) would be less susceptible to feel any visual change, therefore it would be less of a "shock", which would mean, less railing against any new changes.

i can get used to anything, valeriy; the only thing i would ask is that the big white bars were powder blue, or blue grey(whichever the "every other post color" is. just to take the strain off the eyes. with the way it is now, it's a high contrast transition between blank space and text.

edit: i just looked at the initial HC page again, and it looks better. do/did my eyes deceive me, or did the white dead space go bye-bye? did i only imagine them before?

A good example are Nexus Forums, which use the format Valeriy proposes but offer a quality skin and contrasts between subforums layout and the surrounding area. Also less geometric so every area looks like filled at some point. (look at skin, it has gradual shadows)

How hard would it really be to code selectable backgrounds for HC? Cause from my experience as a coder that is basically adding a line to the cookie and an input field to the profile (one more table+field in db)...

The H3 style looks great. However, I have wide screen, too so the homepage has lots of blanc space. Useless IMO. I liked the previous version pretty more, especially because I see no changes at all

In what way? If you're referring to the empty page, then it's an old bug present from before the update.

Edit: Forgot to add, the bug has occurred before when posts gets deleted.

I didn't reply to your next post, because I don't want to divert the thread.
