Ranged default troops?

Something I have noticed with the Haven faction page is that the Crossbowman is listed in the very first slot. Maybe that is just a bit of strange ordering, maybe it reflects gameplay - I won't claim to know. However, let's also take into account the other factions: Sylvan has its Hunters, renown for their double-shot, and Academy has these new Cabir critters whose flaming hands suggest that they're a ranged core unit as well. Could it be possible that ALL of the factions start out with ranged troops as their default/starting unit? Could skeletons be spear-throwers / archers with Necropolis again, or will Stronghold restore frontline goblins in a boomerang-thrower capacity? How would you feel about that?

EDIT: And if so, does this mean that Dungeon and Inferno would respectively have ranged Assassins / Succubi as their baseline troops?

What does it matter when you can build any core on day 1-2?
They are equal in strength no matter the position.

What does it mean default unit? In maps 1st level building is not prebuilt anyway.

i believe that will be changed in Heroes7
cant remember where but i saw that devs will make bigger difference between tiers.
not 100% certain though

Can you be more specific?

Sisters, Sentinels, Crossbowmen. I can`t find which one is stronger. You need all of them for creeping. Of course you must upgrade only one of them but that doesn`t mean it is the strongest one.

maybe he is talking about units like cerberus, ghoul, mauler... which, I think were stronger but had less growth.

What do you mean by "default"? They are built first? They must be built first? They are required for the faction?

I don't think this matters. Beyond the whole of H6's build order (or lack of one) if H7 is based off of H5 (which I thought was the case, I could be wrong) then you can get some units faster than others. Perhaps this will make a unit "default".

Even so, they are core units. All three units are core units. It doesn't matter much which is the "default" troop, they might all be "needed". This isn't like the other games where we had a set tier system. This is more like H4. In H4's academy, which is the default troop, the halfling or the dwarf? Good luck trying to solve that.

If you were to relate this to the other games, they basically took tiers 1-3 and averaged them to be about tier 3 (maybe tier two now). If you look at H5, for example, you have:

Crossbowmen in that range. (also in H3)
Hunter in that range. (also as Elves in H3)
Gremlins in that range. (Also in H3)
Skeleton Archers in that range.
Skirmishers in that range. (in H3 fortress, you had Lizardmen Archers in this range.)
Centaurs in that range. (for H3, this was Orcs)
Assassins in that range. (Beholders fit here.)

The only race in H5 that didn't have a "early game" shooter was Inferno, mostly because the Succubus had two extremely powerful abilities (ranged retaliation and chain shot) that made it two shooters in one. But in H3, they had Gogs, which were still in that range. Even in Conflux, you had two shooters in this range (storm and ice elemetals)

"Tier 1" or "first" doesn't mean default. Back in H1/2, Peasants were tier one for Knight towns. Do you think they were so "default"? Were they ever needed in the army unless you had no other choice?

Even for H6, where the core system was introduced, being "first" didn't mean much. Skeletons were first for Necropolis there. But, for many heroes, usually Magic heroes, they started off with Ghouls and Ghosts, and no Skeletons. So, they weren't "default".

The Crossbowman, the Sentinel, and the Dire Wolf are all "default", to me.

I still think of things as "Tiers 1, 2, etc." Consequently, I think "tier one troop that your town starts out with" as the "default" troop. For me, skeletons are the "default" (starting) troop of any Necropolis army, for example. When I see a particular unit listed first in a roster, I'm assuming "that is the unit your town automatically starts with, therefore it is default."
