I like the Medusa. Only if the Pearl Priestess didn't look like a Medusa in H6 (even with the snake hair), I would want them more. But now, I've already seen them in the Naga faction. Suddenly the same creature with different abilities will be in Dungeon again after H3. I don't like these switches. Harpies were in the Dungeon too, then went to Stronghold.

I think I am alone in this forum in this aspect: I love Dark Elves. H5 Dungeon was my favourite. Dark Eldar in Warhammer: Dawn Of War were also my favourite. I just love the concept of Dark Elves. I also love S&M themes. I had no problem with H5 Dungeon whatsoever. I could trade any beast with a treacherous dark elf any day. I would love it even, if an all-dark elf Dungeon was introduced.

That's why I would prefer Matriarchs. Adding Eruina's specialty (Coven Mistress) as a passive to them would even make them more interesting (of course with lesser damage than normal attack)

My main concern on Medusa is that they don't seem to have Petrifictiation. Petrification is like the whole point of Medúas. It's what they do. And it'd work perfectly in H7 too. Have an ability where the Meduda can petrify anyone facing her, from afar. Hiding behind an obstacle or such would be a way to counter this.

Medusa's are listed as a saboteur. I'm assuming they have a petrification ability.

The Coral Priestesses had the same thing with their slow attack, which was similarly a less powerful version of what the tier 4 medusa's could do in H3. You couldn't really give a core creature the same petrification ability, but the H7 medusa's are going to be an elite.

You see, I hope for petrification too, except i really think they are going for something else.

Medusa/Medusa Sorceress: walker with ranged attack and mesmerizing ability. Saboteur.

It says "mesmerizing", so I feel it would be more like the Coral Priestess (though increased in power, due to Elite and not Core, as you say) than classic Medusa. However, I see no reason to fear really, as "mesmerize" may produce the same results as classic "petrify", as in enemy can't move or attack, and are vulnerable to attack. They just won't actually turn them to stone.

I don't get what's so special about the matriarch. As a role maybe, but as design/concept I really can't understand, it's just a dark elf ¿-er, nothing interesting.

Same here. She was just a spell casting unit, but a lot of units are spell casters. I think it had to do with her being in Tier 6, so besides Pit Lords, she was the top spell caster, and unlike Pit Lords, she could also shoot. So she seemed pretty cool. But, yeah, conceptually, she's rather dull.

I like Medusas more, and although I think it'd be silly, even a Medusa Matriarch is better than a generic Dark Elf Matriarch. Though I hate the name Matriarch overall, which is why I suppose the upgrade for the Medusas in Faces is called "Medusa Sorceress", as that doesn't denote "leader over others" while being led around by another person, and instead just means "you see this *insert creature original name*? Now it can shoot spells around. It's a sorceress. Deal with it."

It was a Dark Sorceress archetype unit, something I have always liked. And we haven't had one except for Evil Sorceress in H4, which was great too.

Well an actual ancient Sorceress could fit pretty well in Dungeon, but the Shadow Matriarch design always repulsed me.

Voted for the Medusa.

The Medusa is not a Naga. And, moreover, is a humid ground bound serpentile creature with a humanoid's upper body and head.

It prefers swamps and caves. Fits perfectly in the dungeon's underworld environment with very little light to undermine their eyesight.

The Shadow Matriarch is more of a reserved, sorceress type of female dark elf that is better suited to be your next hired Hero. Female Dark Elves are not as plentiful as the Sylvan Elves are. Rare = Not as expandable as any other dungeon creature.

I always took the matriarch big hair as a symbol of her being a sucessor of the Medusa in H5

Medusa. I really like they decided to include her in Dungeon line-up and made a lore explanation. It's also great a race isn't bound to a single faction. Considering they worship Malassa now I can't wait to see how that altered their appearance.

That coral priestess looks quite fitting for dungeon. She even has purple magic

On a more serious note: from the concept artwork I get the impression that the medusa will wield a bow. As we already get plenty of archers (x-bowman, hunter, stalker) I would prefer her to have a magic attack similar to that DoC artwork. After all, the kamehameha attack of the matriarch looked totally awesome.

I think that some kind of staff is more plausible because her upgrade is called "Medusa Sorceress". Besides, this artwork was there just to present a general feel of the unit, not its final look.

I know the artwork only shows the general feeling of the unit, but the feeling I get from the medusa artwork is naga with bow.

Honestly, there are some weird "restrictions" that are broken all the time on Ashan lore that I think the best way to deal with them is to act like if they don't matter at all.

For examples, humans are Ylath creatures, yet there you have them, following Elrath.

Dark elves were orignally regular ones, which means they were Sylanna's creatures, but then you have them worshipping a different one in Malassa.

I guess it doesn't matter if Medusas are nagas or they follow the wrecker aspect of Shalassa, Malassa or the spagueti monster, everyone changes its dragon god all the time and nobody cares so whatever, just act like if no race had any relation with any dragon because apparently there aren't consequences of any type for changing it.

I don't think Naga should have been a nation to begin with, they don't strike me like that kind of creature with multiple ranks and classes forming a empire even if in this universe they're described as one of the 6 super cooler than everyone else races, I got them in the "Minotaurs and similar" category when I think about them.

So yep, it might be problematic to have them because they were part of a whole different faction made mostly of that race. It could be problematic too if Sanctuary returns to the game, but well, just think about them as humans from the free cities or from the seven cities and try to forget about it.

Now on the main topic, I think I prefer the Matriarch. I've always have some problems with Medusa's snake hair (I prefer classic female nagas over medusas for that reason) and I REALLY like Dark Elves. I think I would've taken some sort of dual form to keep the Medusa icon on dungeon, and Warhammer is already doing that so there is a precedent.

You're not alone, I really like Dark Elves too (though in WH40K I don't use Dark Eldars, they're too bizarre and their lore deviates from what typically makes dark elves likeable in their way with the righteous spite).

Then wouldn't they have used an artwork of medusa with staff? For example they could have used (a recoloured version of) the pearl priestess. They picked this artwork for a reason.
It's similar with the trogs. I don't expect those to wield a weapon, because then the heroes 3 or 4 trog would have been preferable over that screenshot from MM7.

I'd prefer it with a bow and stoning gaze instead of a staff and mesmerize skills that seem to be the current direction :/
