I don't think framed ones fit the style here. The freely set ones seem to fit much better into the forum style, especially under the mod shields.

I do agree with Stevie that these obviously are completely different from what we have now, but I have to compliment you on the general design of these, they are really pretty and I love the detail that the gems in the corners are colour-coded with the text. Maybe one could try a gray background instead of the black to make them less dark?

Actually I quickly made them in MSPaint, and I got the text color from the orbs .

Maybe I should invert the blackish background color and/or make them transparent. But even so, I think JoonasTo may be right, that the boxed frame may not fit the "open" style of what we've been used to. Still, that may just be a matter of getting used to.

I like all the icons with the text offset by the background graphic. If the text must be on top of the background graphic, reduce the opacity of the graphic by 10-20% (or blend with white, whatever) as Salamandre suggested. This will increase readability of all the pictures.

Wrt to word, I fear "Developer" will have little meaning to people with no context. Developer of what?

If you want people to know that the individual is a representative from Ubisoft, this should be in the picture somewhere.
The "developing" isn't the important part. It's the official nature of the representative that should be made apparent.

@Maurice's remind me strongly of something that would be associated with the Might and Magic RPGs of old.

What kind of developer you expect someone to be when browsing a Heroes thread under the Heroes boards of Heroes Community? If the context's a problem for anyone, then that might not be their only one. As for the developers' role, as Valeriy said, they can edit their own profiles with informative text as their statuses/signatures. Don't see here any issues at all.

Also, I'm unsure to what extent we're allowed to modify the current style of the icons, since it's been said that there won't be any modifications to the old ones. So the Developer icon must be along those lines, meaning with the text centered on top of the image. Otherwise we'd need to change the old icons too and Val said it was not the scope of the thread. Some further clarifications on the matter would be appreciated.

Perhaps not surprising, I made the frame from the adventure map borders of Heroes 3 .

I am not sure either, so I took some liberty. Reading between the lines, I think that Val intended to just add a new icon for the developers and keep the rest the same.

As is obvious, some contributions take those "old" icons and update them as well. Personally, I think it's an "all or nothing" issue: either we update all of those icons in a new style, but still Heroes, (are there any others than the current Moderator and Admin roles?) or we only add the Developer one as an addition to the current set in the existing style.

Personally, I dislike the current set, which is also the reason I made the ones I did. Coming weekend I will play around with that concept some more, see what transparency might do, or a whiter-ish background within the frame as opposed to the dark one I made in the first set. Unless Val clearly states that he only wants to add the Developer icon and nothing changed about the old icons - in which I will bow out of the contest.

That's why I suggested 'Ubi Dev' instead of Developer, but as Stevie pointed out, not all developers are/will be from Ubisoft.

I also dislike the current ones, yet, although the new sets with a complete make over look better by themselves, they dont adjust well to the overall theme of the site. Things with a dark, framed background will look too implemented over all the white here. The red ones may be slightly better though.

There's too much eye candy in the framed ones whereas the site overall is lacking in that regards. It just doesn't blend well.

I prefer the simplicity of alcibiades' separated images. With the letters over the image; maybe another, larger?, more Wands or WarHammers for more options?

At first I thought "find a better Wand" but maybe a large beaten-up-Mallet would be much better/closer.

I see nothing wrong with some eye candy. However, finding something in style with HoMM and with the website as a whole may be a challenge in and of itself, since the website design is rather generic, rather than being styled according to a HoMM fantasy theme.

Coming to think of it, maybe it would then simply be better to use the font of the "Heroes Community" as depicted at the top left of this page (or as depicted with the 3 options below, "New Poll", "New Thread", "Post Reply") and use that font to write "Admin", "Developer" and "Moderator" for the respective users. That would be completely in line with the layout of the website as a whole. What font is it?

This contest is for one image to match the style of existing images. Sets of three images, or a significant change of style are not in the original scope of the context. However, if someone makes a set of three images or a new style that is amazing, it could win. Please note the keyword "amazing". If you are making a different style or three images, your entry will have to be very, very good in order to win. Hope this is clear now.

I actually agree with the word concerns. Developer could be developer of HC to someone who doesn't know. The custom status/signature can help this a bit, but having everything be clear from the image would be ideal. At the same time I don't like the idea of limiting the concept of developers to Ubisoft as there may be other companies involved. I wonder if there is a one-word solution here, or if it is just not possible. Text colour difference was another idea to help here.

The font used for HC logo and post buttons is called Mephisto.

There should not be too much debate over the name. You should pick a word/phrase so people can come up with good icons, otherwise they might end up using something you'd disagree with. I personally think that Developer is the best word here because it comprises the publisher as well as the producer. If you'd like something more precise, then what about "M&M Dev"? It's concise and to the point, a Might and Magic Developer.

Whatever it is, you should chose something so we would know what to use in our models.

Why we haven't thought on this before? Short yet at the same time precise!

I'd love to see Alci proposal with M&M Dev

Using "M&M" is a good idea "M&M Dev" is a bit short, not all newbies know what Dev means. What about "M&M Official"? I think this allows flexibility in terms of games in the M&M universe, flexibility in terms of companies, can't be confused with an HC role, and can be instantly understood by newcomers. Anyone see any cons to this wording?

I like more M&M Dev, but if it's true that newcomers won't understand M&M Dev, I guess M&M Official would work.
