@ Salamandre That's because De Gaulle isn't President in reality like in BTS, but Hollande. And before him was Sarkozy, what can you expect?

I will need some advices from Elvin  and Hero of Light, as they are the only Greek heroes I know.  Please give me a list of greek wonders, or greek important achievements, no matter the era (well of course the Parthenon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria and The colossus of Rhodes are already in the game so skip those please). So the things you are the most proud of, also should be things which I can find represented in artworks, as for example THIS

As for the nature of wonders/achievements, for example France had the Eiffel tower but also the vineyard of Bourgogne or the De Gaulle carrier, as it is one of the best wines in the world. Russia had the St basil cathedral but also Sputnik project or the lake Baikal. Just to see that I am nhot only looking for statues or famous ruins, but everything which could represent an unique Greek signature. For example Olives.

Well, the wonders (meaning famous buildings) of Greece are pretty well known I guess that's true.

I guess what the Ancient Greeks were most famous of (apart from brilliant architecture and sculpture) were some cultural concepts that started there, like:

Philosophy (Plato, Aristotle)
Democracy (Athenian Democracy)
Drama - Comedy (Sophocles, Aristophanes)
Architecture (Ionic and Doric rhythms)
Sculpture (Fedias)
Pottery (didn't start in Greece, but still they are well known for their originality)

From Medieval times I would have to say The Hagia Sofia in Constantinople and from tech the Greek Fire (look it up)

From modern era, sad to say, there are not much that may come to mind. The only thing that comes in mind is Poetry. The Greek language is very rich and so offers a lot of opportunities for poetry (for instance it is no coincidence that the two Nobel prizes that are ever won by Greeks are in literature by the poets Seferis and Elytis).

I always thought Greece was so much more than Alexander, even if he is really important in history.

That's weird, I have not enough material for supporting Greece in the game, also because most of ancient wonders are already present in agricultural era.

I will take a different path then, as I can't let Greece out. I will create imaginary wonders following Iliade and Odysée narratives, ie Ares temple, Zeus statue, Athena's palace,Poseidon's scepter and such things. The artworks for this area are abundant.

More like Western philosophy, and Plato and Aristotle are classics but certainly not the founders.

Both are Byzantine, i.e. Roman creations.

About Byzantine, that is very debatable. Eastern Rome, or "Byzantine Empire" at Constantinopole was far more Greek than Roman, as opposed to the original Rome, or Western Rome, that collapsed faster.

Debatable or not, it wasn't a Greek state even though the Greek element was certainly important. Even the rulers and the population kept calling themselves Romans to the end.

My point was you cannot say they were entirely "Roman".

So I finally went the Autocracy route in Civ 5 (I don't know why it took me so long, but it did) in my quest to beat the game with every civilization.  It's almost laughable how good the ideology is.  It blows Freedom and Order out of the water.

Why don't you admit that warmongering is just the best? I fell in love with it ever since I tried Japan, it's like SO different from your usual approach, and it's also rewarding!... Until your relationships get so bad and everyone starts declaring war on you xD

The four most beastly factions I've ever played when it comes to war are (in order of how impressed I was with them) = China (gods of defense and expansion) - Huns (a little too offensive, but I love how elite horse archers can take on renaissance units, easiest victory on diety imho) - Poland, can't quite put it, I've never felt like in a tight-spot with them and all my wars were smooth and well in my favor (despite having no UUs early/mid). Germany (first civ ever that I broke the unit cap ceiling with, I had a horde from barbarian camps from the getgo that helped win my war against mongolia's elite Keshik army, twas brutal) -

Special shout-out to Japan, their special bonus is deceptively strong for their navy.

Btw, I probably recommended Communitas' mods before, but if I haven't then there you have it. Ever since I tried them I couldn't go back to vanilla, it's a whole new level of experience.

In terms of warfare, the Songhai and Arabia also deserve a nod.

Mandekalu Cavalry are insane because speed + no attack penalty on knights is pretty potent. Extra gold from camps and city captures + free amphibious for every land unit are an underrated bonuses. On difficulties like Emperor you can easily steamroll everyone with your unstoppable Songhai war machine.

Arabia's warfare bonus is simple: camel archers. effing camel archers. RANGED MOUNTED UNITS... WHICH DON'T REQUIRE HORSES. Experienced ones are useful until the early industrial era.

I've always found Japan's bonus to be really underwhelming and could never get them to work

In Civ4 sure, but last time I played Civ5(BNW and everything)they required horses, for some weird reason.

Every year, I play a few fun games of Civ IV, enjoy them, and remember Civ V - it's popular and well-regarded, why not give it another try? I download it from Steam and start playing, and remember why I hate it. The interface is slow and clunky, diplomacy has been nerfed, no unit stacking makes war take forever, all the annoying popups and sound effects on the side, etc, etc.

Sorry to rant, but I love Civ IV and I can't even sit through a single game of Civ V, it's so bad.

Sorry, but I don't understand this statement at all. I can understand why some people dislike Civ5, even if I think it's the greatest game ever, but the idea that 1UPT makes wars take longer simply makes no sense to me. I feel it's the complete opposite. 1UPT actually makes war meaningful for me for the first time ever in Civ history, because in previous games you would use endless amounts of time to pump out huge stacks of units that would then take endless amounts of time to kill the opponent's huge stack of units.

Anyway, if you enjoy Civ4, no harm in that, we don't all have to enjoy the same things.

Well, there is no need to be shocked over the 1-stack disagreement, this was a major issue from the start and divided fans. Random generator still pumps maps which are, for a large percentage, unfriendly to this feature, so often it makes no sense to get some clustered traffic jam where you struggle for hours taking a city being placed in such area.

Then the pathfinding is not optimized, translate = bad code, so while before you just clicked death stack then on its destination and then take care of other aspects while the stack travelled on its own, now you have to click on each unit destination then come back every turn endlessly to fix units which can't  go one past the other. Give a new strategy dimension by removing the death stack, ok, but at THIS price, no and no.

So indeed I am also among those who think this was a bad decision and only played civ with the mod disabling this restriction. And I am also among those who prefer Civ 4 too, graphics readability, micromanagement more appealing, easier modability, better music and environment sounds, + the problems aforementioned. Yet is still an amazing game on its own, cant deny that.
