Team for H5 Viking Campaign?

For quite a while I've been thinking about making a sort of Swansong for my past H5 mapmaking but till now I've sat on the idea. My health is a problem but I'm still very interested in doing this, I just can't do it all now.

I've done quite a bit regarding research and the Camp has several good possibilities, since the Vikes were so historically prolific...ahem...menacing. "Those dragon-ships were awesome."

Here's the general idea; The campaign is maybe 4-7 maps, that cover the uniting of clans/tribes that leads on to conquer England or island hops to include all of Britain.

Possible Variations
a. Starts within Norse settlements only.
b. it could be much larger and be a played out rivalry between the Norse and the Danes.(in one campaign start)
c. The single-campaign could have two starts and paths as Norse or Danes. (like H2)
d. The single campaign could have two starts as the overall Viking leader or the defending Anglo-Saxons.
Just to name a few.

OR A new campaign could also be based on "The Heathen Army" circa King Alfred's reign and the story is mostly waterless. <L>

Other stuff
* I have several maps to use as guides and have already investigated the scale that "could" include all the western isles. i.e. Orkneys, Hebrides, Mann and also Dublinn/Eastern Ireland only. Note; the use of those small islands requires more maps for any practical application for H5 movement within any story.
* I really like Eric Blood-Axe's story. The Sons of Lodbrok is good too.
* Maybe the campaign plays off or incorporates the Lore of the Norse or Icelandic Sagas instead?
* I see the Dwarves as the most fitting Vikings but that could and should be a shared vision and maybe another faction. "Random" should be doable but would mean I think, a lot more work.

To wrap up; I would be willing to do a lot of the "grunt-work" of crafting the map-terrains but would be most interested in helping others learn the Editor for the future of this great game. Fyi. Quantomas is still working on his new A.I. and one day it will make a huge difference.

Btw, I have learned how to connect the maps for true campaign play i.e. carryover Hero but it would be perfect to have one or two members of the team that could script text-boxes and maybe a couple of important events or objectives. But in support and time-saving; A small book could set the story, provide instructions etc. to keep needed scripting to a bare minimum.

Okay, done my bit. Is there anyone out and about today @ HC, that would like to play a role on a small team creating this campaign?

Btw, doesn't cost a dime to just discuss at this point. Atm it's only a whim, I need others to make it so.

Cheers

This sounds like a really cool idea. What faction would you have be Vikings? Orcs? Or would there be mods involved?

I'd love to help out, but as it's my senior year, I have too many commitments so there's not really time for anything like that. I do love the worldbuilding/occasional moderate scripting challenge. I could go for 4/5 hours at a time in the good ol' summer days.
You helped me out with a map called Vengeance once. Do you remember that?

In my minds eye; thus far, I see the Dwarves being the Vikings and Haven representing the Anglo-Saxons. However, I'm interested in making the Campaign-team and doing it in a way that would enlist a "committed few." I think the only thing to me that matters about "what factions?" is that we "try" to address their strengths and weaknesses when creating the Campaign. i.e If there are creature dwellings on the maps; not to give more Archers or Hunters when they are obviously Op'd. Btw, that last bit was a "salute" to my ol' buddy Primus. Battle-Masters always improve mapmakers.

I'm not a modder and don't do the NCF so creatures are as they are; but if someone has or knows of a "perfect-fit"...that's another story. Just because I've not went that way (to date)in no way means "we" shouldn't. "When it is done well, thinking out of the box, is what makes any project tick.

Note: I have thought on occasion when map-dreaming;<L> it could be handy to have an alternative color-scheme for a given Faction, just to make the battle-field unique. i.e what Nival did for the Red-Haven units. *<imo> An idea like this is always driven by time and resources.

Well you know your workload. And since your future is infinitely more important than any game...I understand your thoughts. Still, if you're disciplined you might still be a member of the team and have a limited role. But that ofc is your call. If we got another member or two, you only doing the talk-boxes would still be a huge contribution.

Kinda. Sorry my mind is not quite the safe haven anymore; severe arthritis affects more than just my joints. Was it at EE? It seems like I recall a question or two about basics a few years ago ...maybe. If I'm right; you've moved on quite a ways since then.

What became of this campaign? Were you planning on basing it on H3's Viking We Shall Go! Scenario?
