Batman 2021.

Yep, seen it and I don't like it. Seems like it's tryharding to be too Nolan-ish (so a "realistic Batman"). Pattison might have evolved as an actor but he is probably the worst cast actor in the history of Batman movies.

What would I prefer to see is a Batman movie in the style of Arkham Knights which was also revealed as part of the DC event.

I don't understand the idea behind this movie (why was it even made, the current Batman is pretty established in DCCU) and I think it will bomb hard.

Nope, That’s not it, Burton’s Batman was art deco and grotesque, Nolan’s was realistic and a little bit darker, this time they are completely focusing on “dark batman” since people liked the darkness.

Agree with artu; they want to go dark, really dark. Personally, I find dark fitting - bats are creatures of the night, and Batman has always been dark-ish. We'll see whether it will work out in the movie.

I've seen this happening in the Comics, Batman in one of his darker phases and being part of an happy go around team in League of Justice, sometimes with stories published in the same magazine. It was completely unfitting.

I also feel the darker comics influence and I find this movie to be extremely promising. Already hyped even though it's not out before another year.

Looking at the acting lineup, most of them give me the idea that this movie would be a snowing joke, like Suicide Squad. But seeing the trailer leads me to think I should actually give it a chance.

Edit: lol. One letter mistyped and it looked like either I was trying to be funny with the word filter, or Val had a sense of humor and had turned the f-word into "duck".

Back before Nolan's 2nd opus people shat on Ledger when heard he would play the Joker and look how it turned out... I wouldn't imply anything based on the cast.

That teaser trailer was pretty good.

I didn't think there was much wrong with Ben Affleck's Batman to begin with, but I've decided on giving "Battinson" a chance.

I really like the new Batmobile.

Seems like they're going for some sort of "multiverse" since we'll have Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton reprising the role for the Flash movie, and then we have this Batman which is probably a different version.

It's also rumored that Batman will be shown doing more detective work, I'd like to see that in a movie finally.

i didn't even know who Heath Ledger was until i started checking out the movie previews and such. they added so much hype online with a Joker website where you could find clues that led to real-life locations for free limited edition movie stuff.

i wish i had either found a way to download, or keep, the leaked opening scene i had found online that was unedited as of yet before movie release. the difference between the original opening scene and the released version, was Joker laughing after he shot the bus driver. would've made for a good upload here for posterity.

i think i still have the website screenshots. if i find them, i'll post them.

Upon seeing "The Batman", I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. I liked the plot, the characters, the flow of the action and as a Batman story it had every ingredient. I liked Pattinson a lot more than I thought I would at first. I liked how the other main players were done too, especially Catwoman. Penguin, Riddler, Gordon and Falcone were very much like I picture them for a modern Batman adventure too.

I also love that this is a genuine detective story, and Gotham looks like a comic-book city, rather than just a generic real-life city (which was one of my issues with TDK trilogy).

Now, I've seen quite a few fans moaning that it's not as good as Nolan's Batman or is a poor attempt to mimic it. While I can see where they're coming from, for me this movie was quite a bit better than most of the stuff in the Dark Knight films. So, I'm very much interested in where "Battinson" goes from here. This gets two thumbs up from me, the best live-action effort since Batman (1989) and Batman Returns in my eyes.

If I have any complaints, they might be that Bruce and Alfred's relationship wasn't quite like I'd expected it, and another detail about the Riddler at the climax of the film (but that would count as a spoiler).

I don't know how this happened, but I somehow completely missed "The Batman" when it came out. Life got pretty busy around that time, and I eventually just forgot about it.

Well, I finally watched it, and I thought it was brilliant.

It might actually be the darkest and grimmest Batman movie we've had so far. More importantly, it really captures that gritty comic-book atmosphere, with Gotham's mob underworld, the corruption running through the entire city, and the whole mystery surrounding the Riddler.

I particularly liked what they did with Thomas Wayne. The idea of questioning the Wayne legacy isn't entirely new, but the specific story involving Falcone and the journalist was a brilliant addition. It makes Bruce much more vulnerable on a personal level, forcing him to question the idealized image of his father and adding another layer of complexity to the character.

A few complaints though. I didn't find the action scenes particularly memorable, and the movie definitely drags in places. It could probably have lost 20–30 minutes without losing much.

I'm also not a huge fan of the Riddler's costume. I understand what they were going for, but I'm still waiting for a movie brave enough to give us the classy Riddler: suit, bowler hat and question-mark cane! That said, Paul Dano was absolutely brilliant in the role.

I also agree with Drakon about Pattinson. I thought he made an excellent Batman, especially as this younger, more obsessive and psychologically damaged version of the character.

And perhaps controversially, I think I prefer this to Nolan's Batman movies. Nolan's trilogy is obviously great, but "The Batman" feels deeper and more psychologically complex to me.

I'm glad you like the movie too, Galaad. Thanks for your input.

Unfortunately the sequel film release keeps getting delayed... Recently I read that they are going to use Harvey Dent/Two-Face and he will be played by Sebastian Stan, the actor for Winter Soldier in Marvel films.

I was blown away when I first saw The Batman in theaters. Easily the best Batman film for me.

The more grounded element was a huge plus, and the detective scenes were as well. The inspiration from the movie Seven was maybe too on the nose, but I liked it anyways. I wish they had a few more action scenes but I really liked the ones we got. Seeing Batman take hits and not just wipe everyone out unscathed is nice to see. I really got the impression this was a younger, much greener Batman - and getting that while not having to sit through another origin story was awesome. I loved the suit being made up of gear that looks more practical, as well as the Batmobile. The movie does have its flaws and they’re a lot more noticeable on the rewatch, but the first 30 mins or so is damn near perfect for me, I’ve re-watched just that section on HBO so many times lol. Crazy that the sequel isn’t coming out until 2028, but I definitely recommend the show Penguin on HBO in the meantime.

- Movie Spoilers -

It definitely drags for me with the Falcone subplot, especially when it leads to Bruce talks to him and just immediately believes the lie about his father. The police commissioner getting taken and killed offscreen was also weird. Would have much rather had that part more fleshed out in exchange for some of the bloat.
