I will not support Steam in this as they do not make it clear in their product page that you are only getting RoE. I mean wouldn't most ppl expect them to be releasing H3 Complete HD for the price they are charging?! Don't see it listed on the ubi site yet either so don't know if they will include that info either.
How hard would it be to make sure the words "Restoration of Erathia" appeared somewhere on their product page? OR "Does NOT include expansions AB or SoD"?
I mean I think at least 50% of the ppl that buy this off steam will have already played it in the past.
RoE HD by itself is not worth more than 5 bucks if even that. Especially not without the Random Map Generator when they are bucking on multiplayer so much.

On Steam, RoE isn't specified anywhere. They let you think you get the whole game. Really nowhere, it has even been removed from global title.

And it's always been like that at least for H3, the vanilla game can be named like the general title regardless of how many add-ons are created. So it's not about the law, but about the decency of a publisher... which is not that crystal.

What could possibly have changed so drastically in the code between the base game and those expansions that they could not either (A) Decompile them to obtain it, or (B) Recode said bits? We're not talking about different game engines here.

Anyone know what the max resolution supported by the HD version is? Does it support native 2560x1440 or higher, or just 1920x1080 as shown in the screenshots they put out? The lack of expansion packs will deter many from buying. But if it supports really high rez, more people will buy. After all, HD graphics are supposed to be the selling point here.

Wasn't it stated somewhere that the graphics were upscaled by a factor 3?
The original townscreens were made for a height of 600px (including interface)
600x3=1800, meaning the new graphics would suffice for 3200x1800 or 2880x1800 screen resulutions.
Above you'd get frames in horizontal direction and on the map things will start to get small probably.

3200x1800 and you're talking about "above"? And I thought my 1920x1080 screen was big.
Actually I don't know any HD edition which people seem to like. Baldur's Gate, Age of Empires and now, although it's not even released, HoMM3.
Do you think we already see the final graphics on the pictures?

Nope. Right after you launch the Steam Client, the news window opens with announcements about all kinds of new games and, the upcoming officially announced to be released games that are to be sold+played through Steam.
Once the game is released, on January 29th, the game's official page will, obviously, host the lobbying of many critics and the many owners-account holders of Steam of this newest game's many comments.

You should still get news about it all through your Facebook page.
The news team of Valve Corporation only sent the news through the Steam Client's Browser as a temporary weekly thing. Promotional marketing initiative from them, also.

How to see it, all over again?
Simple. Go through the store tab, games tab, Strategy type.
Now, you should see the picture of the to be released soon Heroes III HD title with the 14.99$ price tag attached to it, also.
