ROFL!
Are you serious?

3DO was the same case as Ubisoft -> money, nothing more was important.
That's why we had: 8 Heroes Chronicles (cleary DLCs by today standards), Might and Magic cheap spin-offs (CoMM, WoMM, LoMM), bugged and unfinished HoMM4 and pre-alpha MM9 sold as full game.

Oh, do you happen to know the exact date of it happening? I would love to hear that. Unless you know that, I don't really see your point in disagreeing with Maurice's point.

Maybe it's just my opinion, but Ubi destroyed the hole MM series. It was better when NWC/3DO existed

You'll still get security updates and patches until 2020 so no worries there.

Taken from comments on the same page, none of this are available for XP anymore, and frankly that is the reason why there are no publishers willing to make stuff for it. Because if you want to sell software, it has to work, and you can't guarantee that if the system is not patched...

That being said, after they stop supporting windows 7 altogether it will start fading away just like windows XP did.

Well, that's a start. No mention that you'll be getting RoE only though.

But as long as there is no RMG and nothing like this HD mod sane interface I won't be getting it.

And I'm pretty sure there will be thousands and thousands of people still using it.

Heck, XP and Win7 are convenient. I still feel comfortable on xp sp3.

I don't understand the mentality of pre-ordering video games. It seems completely illogical to me when you cannot get your money back if the game turns out bad, and you must rely almost solely on marketing material when making such a decision, so it doesn't seem a very educated choice to me. You might save 10% or whatever, but you can do so too by having a little patience. And besides, if the money is lost then it didn't matter that you saved a small percentage. Also, if the publisher doesn't provide a demo then I think it can be justified to pirate the game first to make a solid purchase.

Edit: Of course you can also watch user generated content instead of pirating a game without a demo if you feel that's adequate enough. Also, I don't know how much work making a demo really is, but games from big publishers should have the resources for it, at least.

I do this so I know I am guaranteed to have access to the pre-ordered game the moment it is released. Personally, I don't want to go through that hassle once it has been released; then I simply want to start the download right away .

Can you start downloading before the game is released if you pre-order? If a was game over 10GB and you had a slow internet connection then I could understand that as being part of the equation, at least.

It depends. Some games do pre-loading to avoid a long download time when the portals open. Some games don't. But it's mainly that games are released during weekdays, during which I usually only have time to spend on it in the evenings, after coming home from work. Then I'm tired and don't want to go through the hassle of figuring out how to purchase it, I just want to mash an "install" button and sit back.

And also, most pre-orders feature ingame benefits over post-orders; it depends a bit on the game and actual benefits just how powerful that appeal really is.

@ Maurice

Okay I see.

Well, the horrible thing about some, but not all, exclusive pre-order bonuses is that they punish the buyers that choose to wait for the actual release - or longer - before making up their minds about buying a game. But it obviously depends on what the bonuses/goodies are. Some bonuses are quite harmless while others might make you feel that you're missing out on the actual content of the game. I think in some cases this trend can even make people opt to pirate a game because they feel that they missed out on some exclusive pre-order bonus content.

Anyhow, I should be careful about not going more off-topic.

I cannot say that I actually know the rules very well, but if you're in the EU then you might technically be able to get a refund within 14 days from a digital brought license to a game, however, I read that if you have started downloading the game and/or played it then you'll forfeit this right. I don't know if this is actually accurate, though. However, digital stores can create their own special refund politics, too, but within what limits I'm not sure.

I heard that Steam has an unofficial 'one time' refund politic.

Origin has a '24 hour after activation' refund politic according to the link below, but only for EA games. It sounds rather good to me in theory, but I have no personal experiences with Origin, though.

http://help.ea.com/en/article/returns-and-cancellations/

I also found a resent Steam discussion on Reddit which might provide some relevant information (Steam related):
