Girls in love with Heroes.. why is that?

Ok, here is something I don't understand: Why do girls like the Heroes series so much and hate many other games (including Civ)?   Is it because Heroes has colorful graphics (as colorful as Rainbow ), or is it because it has cute looking creatures?

dunno...

why don't you tell that to Greek girls? ...I'm sure my friend Ancient (now a Master Gremlin for the Greek army, to quote him) will agree... we need more girls that like Heroes (or computers in general) around here!

My guesss

I think girls dislike action and hard terror games like doom and warcraft because it's much to fast and there is to much terror in it.. maybe girls dislike that,Ofcourse blizzard is so smart to put an female night elf race into the game (that will lure more females) and the other doom games get female characters in the main page(Like Perfect Dark and laura croft)
HOmm games and mario games are always cool for girls, they will play those games above all others.

I think girls grow to games more and more.. and soon more girls play computer games then guys

Just my cents

Well I love playing a variety of computer games.  I love Diablo and have only just recently decided to have a break from it.  In my RL world being a female you act or behave a certain way  so its nice to  come home after work and blow the crap out of someone/thing on the computer lol.....but yes I also like Heroes not cos its pretty but cos its strategic.  But if you want to send a real Heroe to my front door then stuff the computer games....I'm with him
.....trust me us girls are out there..I know the three top players on the Open Bnet ladder for Diablo are all female

There's something about that game. I don't know what.
My current girlfriend who doesn't play any computer games almost begs me to play HOMM3 (As a team of course).
My two former girlfriends played HOMM3 after I showed them.
I told some of my friends to have their girlfriends/wives try HOMM3. Most of these girls only touch the PC for e-mails/MP3s and suddenly found a computer game they actually liked to play!
The worst part is, they appear more addicted to HOMM3 than we are.
Hell, my girlfriend is head over heels for Deemer and won't play if she isn't Dungeon with Deemer (not even for his Meteor Shower, she wants the minotaur with YELLOW eyes).
Why is that? I don't, maybe it's the little leprechaun dancing or the simple mechanics, because HOMM3 was a REALLY user friendly game (Build the green buildings, can't build the red ones).
Anyway, just my 0.02$

Hi RainBow

well thanks for the comments Rainbow and yes  the top three Duellers on open Bnet 99 ladder are all female

Falling_star
Sweet_thang
Blood-Doll

We estimate approx 30% of our 2000 active duellers are female not sure why cos we are strictly PK (people Kill)duelling and it doesnt come much more raw than that but women seem to like the game.

Oh well you probabley wont see me here again Just paying one of the toughest Bowzons on Bnet a visit  ...Hope you enjoy your time in Heroes great game and dont forget to visit us again

cya Rainbow

...heh, to tell you the truth I'm surprised that there aren't more. I would think this would attract more gals, so I'll keep an eye on that...maybe HoMm4 will be more lucky.

...the thing though is that for some reason, most girls just raen't into computer games...not sure, but it seems there are actually more playing video games or something. Anyway, it would seem that since the female thing is generally to be more sophistimacated and play cool simulation-like thinking games...attached with a good chance to go and chat with a bunch of guys...and on occassion some fellow ladies. It appears to me that most hardcore, fast-moving action type killing games are too much. Instead, they opt for slightly slower turn based, or slowly drawn out, or no time limit simulation kind of things. However, it is actually quite scary to think how many of them actually are playing the kinds of games you wouldn't image.

...I'm not very big on technical terminology, but what I see is that with those first person shooters, real time 3d killing things draw from the female spawn pool mainly in the teenie bopper age, with those 11-13 year olds, which are a tad young...or those middle age bored mothers.
...then with those real time strategy games, like starcraft or whatever, the ones they get are usually just insane.
...and those Diablo kind of roleplaying actually like the Baldur's Gate kind of roleplaying both usually contain older women.

...and of them all, those left that don't fit into those general categories seem either very seclusive or very open and popular, and thus taken...

...doesn't help my situation much...wonder how well this well far

mmmm middle aged bored mothers?  only older women play Diablo? Well I have met many females on Bnet and most are in their early twenties althoough there are many older ones.
Ouch I am probably in the category of "older woman"....well ok ok not probably but definately am in that category. I think women play  alot more things then u guys may be aware of  as for me.....well I have a week off from work so hence the forum junkie thing happening, but oh too often have I sat up to the wee small hours of the morning just so I can kill again on Diablo lol

*I* like Civ (Well, FreeCiv, at least).  I like a variety of different computer games - and there are a few things they have in common; they're about development in-game (you build a good deck in Magic:The Gathering, you build a powerful technological empire in MOO/MOO2, you build a strong character in Angband (like Diablo but text-based); rather than simply developing reflexes as a human being playing Quake or the like.) They're all readily 'pausable' - I'm sorry, I have a Real Life to interact with occasionally!  And they *don't* have much if anything in the way of blood and gore.  (StarCraft would be the bloodiest I've played.)

Heroes has additional strengths as far as I'm concerned.  There's facility for a real and engaging story in any map or campaign.  It's 'watchable' - I met HOMM2 by watching my housemates play it; an onlooker can learn much of the basic strategy by watching, and also make useful strategical suggestions.  It has considerable depth and flexibility.  And you can play it 'allied' - I'm not one for being acutely compeditive.  That it is also graphically attractive is relatively minor in the scheme of things.

That's my reasoning, anyway.  I'm only one person.

...hehe, what do you mean? There are plenty of girls here who play HoMM, apparently? ...but yes, I know what you mean. I don't either

...oh, and I wasn't saying that my judgement was accurate. I'm simply saying that's what I see from my perspective...and yeah, like most of you, I probably spend much more time than I should be playing games....but I usually do it during the slower and inconsistant of the two time slots...I play during the afternoon, while most of my buddies, and actually more of the interesting and "important" people at night. I wonder why that is though...

Well I see more and more girls play games. Evev My mom She does like 48 hours session of civilisation game. (but she is a little crazy!).

I have a lot of friends where there girlfriends have had there share of the game playing time. They all by the way have 2 computers now. And the are playing Diablo, Civ and other games, mainly cooprative. And I learned (by loosing !!)that a dedicated woman is fast getting very good at the game she is playing (especial good at pulling off nasty tricks).

So I see more and more girls gaming, what I am yet to see is girls diving a lot into analyzing strategy!
My days with diablo are over and they faded when "we had solved the puzzle" All the good crazy variant was created, many loopholes found, and patches closed many off them (blizzards is a fanlistening compagny!) But not many girls where among thesse game exploring fellows.

It looks like there are a few here!

I actually enjoy doing anything that has to do with computers. I took a year long computer course at the local tech school and now I am obsessed with gaining as much knowledge as I can about all things computer.

I love to play Heroes as well as Disciples and similar games as these. My younger sister actually first introduced me to Heroes 2. Her husband bought it but rarely played and she played and was hooked on it. We still play hotseat every once in a while. She is twenty seven and I am thirty four. I like the game mainly because of the strategy involved and the fantasy theme. I have always been a fan of the fantasy realm. I also enjoy kicking a little butt. No better feeling than wiping out your opponents army!

I don't play many games with blood and guts flying around but I do love my Stephen King books and my Hellraiser movies. The creepier, the better!
