Error potential in campaigns

Looks like the Orrin issue from Heroes 3 is back, in the campaigns where you have the maps that have the loss condition of "don't lose X Hero", duplicate heroes can be bought in taverns, which could have you mysteriously lose if some computer player buys that character and gets it killed. Something to look out for.

Hmmm, thats bad. I haven`t really started the camaigns, I have only completed one scenario yet(Bigguns playground) but I have started the first campaign just to see how it is and I believe that the heroes you can`t lose  are ONLY the special ones that are specially made for that campaign.

Nope, its all heroes

It may be a specific error with that map/campaign, cause in Heroes 3 they disabled all the special heroes, but in the 3rd map of Lysander campaign I went to the tavern and Proetho was available for purchase, and losing him was a loss condition.

Then it`s a bug for sure. But guess it is for that specific mapwhere they forgot to disable him. (hope)

Abazagarath, could you tell me how to get the sword to get through the gate on the 2nd scenario of the lysandra campaign.  It is the one were you have only 4 heroes and some monks and crusaders which you recruit nearby and have to take on medusa, minotours, unicorns, etc.
I have tryed using lots of magic but i keep getting slaughtered.  My heroes are 17,16,7,3, which probably could be more powerful but i am not losing by a little bit i am getting anihilated so i don't think it would make much different if they were stonger.
Any ideas ?

Hmm, Jubbly, I remember struggling a bit with the second map... I think hero development is essential in this campaign, as you often have to rely on your heroes and very little else.

I focused on combat skills for Lysander + other knight and on life magic skills for Proetho + other priest. If you've done this, you should have some decent spells. Using the right ones is the trick, mainly. I had to fight a battle seven or eight times there, and from being slaughtered, I went to win without losing a unit.

What I used frequently was a recipe like this: Song of peace on ranged or very fast units (who can attack present round), you should also have archery on your heroes, so they can do some ranged damage. Next round, you can either keep up the song of peace spells, or cast Heavenly Shield with Proetho, and then Martyr on Proetho to save the hero the enemy seems most eager to kill. Next rounds, use regeneration/song of peace/more heavenly shields as required.

Experiment with this, and you should be able to beat those guys. (You have to watch the battle developing, of course, and be able to improvise if things turn out differently than you (or I) planned).

Good luck, and play well.

Trying to do map 2 with a 17,16,7, and 3 hero does not sound...fun. I rolled through the second map in the amount of turns it took for me to move from the beginning to the end straight. Was a piece of cake. I'm not sure what level my heroes were, but I think lysander was 18, Proetho was whatever level he started as when you get him, another general hero that was like 14 or 15, and a life magic based monk that was level 18. I basically had my two generals shoot, and melee when and if mobs got close, and the two priest types cast prayer then the group armor spells (defender and the group spiritual armor spell), and then just skipped their turns except for maybe 2 or 3 times I cast a heal on my main generals, or attacked a stack that was almost dead that was nearby. I was never in danger of ever losing.

What classes are your heroes? It is going to be hard to keep your 7 and 3 alive, much less Lysander and Proetho when you have to worry about those others. I guess I'm glad (in hindsight) I made both my "might" heroes generals, and got them grandmaster archery quickly. It helps a lot. Anyways, give us your heroes classes, and maybe people can give more specific strategies. I'm just thinking its going to be REAL tough.

Thanks for your help on this i will try again.

Is it just me or is it a bit of a major fault with the game that i now have no chance of winning this campaign without doing the first scenario all over again.

Is this the same with all of the campaigns that after you have completed the task to progress to the next level you have to waste time maxing out the stats of the heroes that you carry forward to have any chance of progressing.

Since this thread is about campaign bugs, i have one...

I am at the 2nd or 3rdmission in the barbarian campaign..(the one where you have to defeat two warlords)...The victory condition is conquer all the players' castles and their armies...and i have done that. Yet, the comp will not declare blue player defeated. Finally i used the cheats to see if i was missing something(3 weeks had passed and nothing had moved) I flagged evrything falggable on the map and there are no blue armies or towns or dwellings left...i had to use the cheats to finish the scenario...

Oh, yeah...Another strange fact: after using the cheat to see all the map without FOW, it remained active... Every game i play, campaign or single scenarios, i can see all the map without FOW. And it doesn't register as a cheat...

I know what your talking about, Conn. The same thing happened to me with the Fog of War, but all you have to do is type in the cheat again, and it will return to the areas that you should not be able to see
