Somfi, I think DataPack and dodo_bird have answered your question better than I could. Btw thanks for the kind words, it is community demand, help and support that lead to mods like this. To anyone reading this liking/disliking this mod, please do comment with opinions and criticism.

Great job getting quick combat replay battle!

Found a bug, round 1 you can not use magic, the system thinks you had already cast a spell (Mana was not used)

QuickCombat - Esc button

Hi!

The quickcombat and esc button is awesome in it self, only I have seen it do some wierd stuff as well. I was doing some other stuff next to my gaming which required some use of the ESC button, and sometimes I mis-used it in H3 instead. Various wierd things have happened where for example, on my next turn, a fight I had already done (and lost units in) was somehow gone. I had gotten my units back, the monsters were still gone, and the artifact I had picked up was also gone. Also, my hero got dublicated (only visually).
The other time my hero also got dublicated, but this time my 'real' hero got transported to some whole other place on the map. Does it register ESC's done outside of combat and do something about that too? =)

Oh and thanks for the template information guys! =)

I have been busy lately but have finally had time to finish some additions/fixes:

* Added Re-visitable Objects compatibility for campaigns (previously only compatible with normal .h3m maps)
* Changed Re-visitable Objects to not alter hero's facing direction when re-visiting an object
* Fixed Re-visitable Objects sometimes not working with saved games
* Changed No Sound Delay battle startup to be like HD mod (let battle start music finish playing before letting battle music start, units can instantly be moved)
* Re-added artifact moving in hero trade screen (hotkeys: Q, 1 and 2, click Full List in h3mtool for more info)
* Fixed some GUI problems with RMG feature and changed some GUI text
* Internal optimizations and re-structuring (hde_mod.dll -200KB) for better compatibility with future HD Edition versions

No Sound Delay was changed to be like HD mod as a result of several people requesting it. Re-visitable Objects feature was basically completely re-written in order for it to work for campaigns.

Thanks and a bug

First of all - thank you for all the hard work you put into this. I and many others are very grateful.

I found a bug when attacking a garrison with autocombat. I didn't like the results, and pressed escape to manually play the combat. After I won, my hero was duplicated, and it was impossible to move the duplication who blocked the gate. (I went back the way I came) I have a screenshot of a Terek trading with another Terek if it is interresting.

I would like some instructions on how to use the h3mtool

I have installed HOMM III Complete (Ubisoft DVD) and HOMM III - HD Edition (Steam).

I downloaded the h3mtool, but the only thing I've been able to use is the spacebar / revisit function. That function works with HOMM III default and its two expansions, but not with HOMM III - HD Edition. So, if for no other reason, I appreciate the tool.

However, I--and maybe some other players--would like some clear, step-by-step instructions on how to use the tool. For example, I don't know what is going on with that conversion business. It seems to have done nothing for me. Also, how do I get a random map generator for the HD Edition? And how do I install those scenario patches that come with the tool download? (At the top of this thread, I used the link to download the default-scenario package for Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death. Thank you. I can now use the HD Edition to play those scenarios. Only the Restoration of Erathia scenarios come with the default HD Edition. But I don't know how to install those patches.)

Any maps converted can be played when put in HD Editions folder and this is also the place to put the pre-converted maps that can be downloaded from the main post or any other maps you want to add to HD Edition. The path is usually:

Another small bug

Hi and thanks again. It seems there is another problem with the replay autocombat function. When you're supposed to get something after a fight with a monster on the map, you don't recieve it if you use quick combat.

Try the map All For One, play as player 2, go down to subterranean and fight the imps who are supposed to give you a crappy eagle eye artifact. Try with and without quick combat.

Thanks to my close reading of your preceding post and a look at your links, the h3mtool 0.92 BETA allowed me to generate random maps. Using Windows 8.1 with the classic shell desktop, I followed these steps:

1. I downloaded the h3mtool and opened it. I r-clicked the h3mtool application icon and clicked “Run as administrator”
2. In my Heroes III Complete directory, I located the h3maped.exe file. I r-clicked it and clicked “Properties.” I highlighted, copied, and pasted the location to the upper window in the tool. In my system, this location was C: Program Files (x86)3DOHeroes 3 Complete (I left the bottom window in the tool blank.)
3. I checked the RMG box on the tool, but I did not yet click “Apply.”
4. While leaving the tool open, I started up my Heroes of Might & Magic III - HD Edition (Steam version).
5. When I got to the game's main menu, I clicked “New Game.”
6. I hit the Windows key on my keyboard, bringing me back to my desktop.
7. I then clicked the “Apply” button on the tool.
8. I clicked the HD Edition game icon on my desktop's lower taskbar. Back at the main menu, I clicked “Single Scenarios.”
9. The screen automatically switched back to my desktop and displayed a new panel, which allowed me to generator a random map. (I made sure to click the button allowing me to select character and town.)
10. I quit the game and restarted it. Now, in my HD Edition's list of scenarios, there was a “Random Map” entry. I could click advanced options to select character and town (you must select a town before you can select a character).

Notes:
– To generate a map, the tool must be open in the background while the game runs.
– The tool did not work if I did not r-click its application icon and click “Run as administrator.” (Strangely I had to do that even though the shield icon was showing.)
– My procedures may not work precisely for everyone, but if someone besides me had posted them, they would have helped me.
– I have not yet tried all the tool-enabled shortcuts, but the spacebar/revisit and stack-splitting functions work perfectly. The game must be running while you enable the shortcuts, but after they are enabled, you can close the tool. If you quit the game, you need to use the tool to re-enable the shortcuts.
– The tool's RMG function is not as colorful as the in-game generator in the default Heroes III. It's only a drab gray panel used on my desktop. But it works.
– I could get only one random map to show at a time. If I generate a new random map, it overwrites the previously generated map.


I still have not gotten the conversion function to work, but that's not important. I have downloaded the pre-converted maps and copy/pasted them to my HD Edition. I have not been able to convert a user-created map downloadable from Celestial Heavens ( http://www.celestialheavens.com/search2.php ). But I can always use the standard Heroes III to play those.


Also, I still don't know how to install the h3mpatches that come with
the tool.

P.S.
Potmdehex advises that it is not necessary to restart the game after generating a random map.

Glad to hear you got it working. Note that you don't actually have to restart the game after a map has been generated though, you can just go back in-game after your done with the RMG dialog. Regarding h3mpatches: If you already downloaded and put in the pre-converted map pack, the files in the "h3mpatches" folder are of no use to you, they are merely small map files used during conversion.

Thank you.

I prefer the HD Edition because of something I read in a Samsung document. It advised of the increased chance of getting dead pixels if you use full screen with a widescreen monitor. I don't know if those words were directed toward one Samsung model or toward all widescreen monitors. But I'd rather not gamble.

I really appreciate the work you put into this potmdehex.

Even though allot of people think this is a money grab which it ofcourse is for some parts. I think that if the source code wasnt lost and this would've all been fine almost all old school players would play this even without the extra modded stuff.

Do you think there is by any chance a way to improve the base map editor of HoMM3 HD so we can get the same options the old improved version has and just be able to create new maps a bit easier without the need of converting etc.?

Wish i was good at this stuff so i could help you out that way.

Well, what you are mentioning here is separate from everything h3mtool does currently and anything discussed in this thread, but if there is something specific you desire it doesn't hurt sharing your thoughts with the rest of the community here.

However note that as far as improving HD Edition's map editor goes, a lot of people already have H3 Complete. Those people can simply use that to directly create a HD Editition compatible map by specifiying Restoration of Erathia as the format in the New Map dialog when beginning the creation of a new map.

I also have acces to that game and the map editor the thing is it doesnt work on the newer windows like 8/8.1 whenever i run the patch over the standard map editor in the complete edition it becomes an unable to run application." this app can't run on your pc"

Creating seperate virtual boxes for it is imo a bit to much. Which makes me only have the object tool and not the copy and all other extra features.

But all of this is maybe for the future.

One recurring bug playing with the h3mtool

I've played about 40 hours of the HOMMM III - HD Edition, using the h3mtool. Mostly the .92 Beta, a little with the .93 Beta.

With the hot keys enabled, one bug occurred often: Two heroes meet, and their army units and items are automatically swapped, leaving one hero with almost all the army stacks and items. The other hero is left with only one unit in one stack.

It did not ALWAYS occur, but I'm afraid I can't specify the exact parameters when it DID occur. It seemed less likely to occur when the meeting heroes had approximately equal-sized armies and numbers of stacks.

To me, the best feature of the tool is the Re-visitable Objects function. It enables a default function of the standard HOMM III, and it has an effect on the player's performance versus the enemy, whereas the other features are mere conveniences. If for no other reason, the h3mtool is worth downloading and using.
