here's a lore-question: where do they get those feathers? never seen purpler (totally a word) feathers and certainly not underground where strong colours would make no sense.

Speaking of awkward similarities...

I... must admit I didn't notice that until a friend of mine asked whether person on SoD's cover was Markal....

LOL!

Agraelag is also Markal in disguise

What these two have in common is colour (purple) and long hair but even hairs have different patterns, not to mention their ears.

Of course, not to mention most of Dark Elves dyed hairs black.

They have exactly the same eyes, the same hair, the only difference seem to be skin tone, outfit and ears.

Not to mention that Markal is alive at the time, so his pale skin is probably mostly just a matter of lighting.

I love how all the official sources are all like:

"Sar-Elam reached the conscience of Asha, which turned him into the Seventh Dragon. He had seven disciples. He prophesied that the world of men will live as long as the Falcon line does. He imposed the peace treaty between Angels and the Faceless. He sealed the demons in the prison world of Sheogh.

Oh, and by the way, we don't know his gender."

I mean, by now it's kinda obvious it was a guy, when literally the whole universe puts it that way.

Why is that obvious?

I don't get the impression that Ashan is significantly more progressive on gender equality than we are, in modern times. Being a male is probably the norm so I don't find it strange that people assume that the Seventh Dragon was a male.

Naturally we'll get the [writer perceives Sar Elam as male] treatment but that's just convenient. There was never any ambiguity like say with Jack's appearance in mass effect 2 where they deliberately avoided mentioning a him or her. But Sar Elam is more of a symbol than a person so a gender distinction matters little.

I wouldn't mind, if it wasn't for the fact that it was more of a retcon... but now that he was male from the start, I kinda do.

retcons are fine as long as they improve the thing it retcons, which this one does. though do put in the effort of actually changing any male pronouns...

Sar-Elam doesn't strike me as a particularly feminine name.
Maybe it's the whole 'Elam' being 'Male' backwards thing

How is it that a person as important as Sar-Elam has his/her gender forgotten to time, did they not record these things or were books not invented? It was not even that long ago from what I gathered only around 1500 years we remember that Julius Caesar was male and that was over 3000 years ago, yet the only mortal to ever attain godhood has something as simple as his/her gender forgotten?
