It... probably should be, but the map from Heroes 7's blog places it in the Unicorn Duchy...

Oh, my bad indeed. She started in Greyhound (Summer palace) then moved to Unicorn (Ashwood, then Brightwood). For some reason I placed Ashwood in Greyhound -_-
I also think it's quite obvious that she left somebody in her Duchy to do administrative job. It happens in real life as well.

I wonder if Deirdre will be in this game. We have actual banshees this time so it'd be pretty good.

That would require double retconning of her backstory though - originally she was described as a fanatical inquisitor of the Griffin Empire prior to her death, but not only was Inquisition disbanded long before these events, she wouldn't even be of the Griffin Empire at all.

That being said, I'm pretty certain that there is some kind of organization dedicated to finding and punishing Demon cultists in particular... I wonder how this kind of organization is called, if that's not the Inquisition.

Well if her being an Inquisitor from the Griffin era is a plot hole then they might as well retcon it into being Falcon era. It'd be cool if she was retroactively made from the "Saint Isabel" period (she was from the vanilla game so obviously that wasnt the original intention) and that way it wouldnt contradict anything

We have 3 Duncancs. Can't we have 2 Deirdres?
Why do you keep seeing retcons were there're none.

Sandro, we're talking about H5 Deirdre and her biography, not about H6 Deirdre. There already are two Deirdres.

I wonder why?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deirdre

Not to mention two things;
Stag and Falcon Duchies are based on Ireland.
We already know that even Crag Hack is only a nick-name and not character real name... and he had 2 Crag Hack's helmets (one is an artifact in-game, other is/was in his personal use after he lost original one).
So having 2 characters with same is nothing unusual... let not start with all Crag Hacks in Might and Magic games (starting from King's Bounty and Might and Magic 1)

My bad.
Regarding H5's Deirdre - the Inquisition was disbanded, yes, but it got rebuilded at that time. Nothing extraordinary.

From my original understanding, Ronan Falcon united all the human clans under his rule, creating the Falcon Empire. Then, his son Brian Falcon accepted help from the angels in strengthening his dominion, which resulted in renaming it to Holy Falcon Empire and accepting the worship of Elrath.

Now, some other sources, like the backstory of the Sword of the Griffin, state that angels helped Brian Falcon unite the human clans into a single nation - but there's the problem, weren't they united in the first place?

Well strenghtening his dominion would technically fall in "helped to unite"

Sword of the Griffin said:
At the end of the Ancient Age, the Angels of Elrath were in a dire predicament: their numbers had been declining for centuries because of their courageous but often deadly exploits during the wars with the demons and their low rate of reproduction. They were facing the end of their race, and consequently, an end to the worship of their Father, Elrath. The Archangel Sarah searched the broken peoples of Ashan and learned of Human clans that roamed the land waiting for a sign from their patron, Ylath the Dragon-God of Air. Lost in the religious upheaval that had followed Sar-Elamís ascension to Dragonhood, it was among these scattered and disillusioned peoples that Sarah found the young boy Brian, heir to a clan dwelling in the woodlands of Falcon. These clans were civilized but extremely unruly, full of character and courage. The Angels helped Brian unite them into a single nation dedicated to Elrath. Sarah then asked the Angelís greatest Weapon Smiths to forge a set of beautiful swords. Each of the seven swords would represent a virtue of Elrath, and be offered to the leaders of the new nation: the Emperor himself and his six Dukes. The Blade of Revelation was given to the free spirited clan of Griffins in an effort to channel their audacity and courage to a higher calling.

It's kind of annoying that some sword's backstory pretends that Ronan Falcon's achievements never took place. It seems there is no retcom here though, since official Heroes VII description still refers to Ronan Falcon as Empire's creator - it's probably just angels being pretty ignorant about human history.

It seems that this description of the Sword of the Griffin failed to pass the IP. There's an "edited" version:
Quote:
At the end of the Ancient Age, the Angels of Elrath were in a dire predicament: their numbers had been declining for centuries because of their courageous but often deadly exploits during the wars with the Demons and the Faceless and their low rate of reproduction. They were facing the end of their race, and consequently, an end to the worship of their Father, Elrath. So they searched for nations to convert, and they set their eyes on the Humans of the young Falcon Empire, lost in the religious upheaval that had followed Sar-Elamís ascension to Dragonhood and the Wars of Fire. The Angels approached the young boy Brian, great-grandson to Ronan Falcon, and helped him convert his fragile Empire, forlorn by the fickle Dragon of Air, into a strong nation dedicated to the stern and unforgiving Dragon of Light. As a gift to their new vassals, the Angels offer seven magical swords, symbolizing the seven virtues of Elrath. The Blade of Revelation was given to the free spirited House of Griffin in an effort to channel their audacity and courage to a higher calling.

Btw, Ronan Falcon was the first Emperor, but his direct successor was his great-grandson Brian. It seems that his son (who's name is Brian as well) and grandson were killed in Wars of Fire.

Hmn... There's another thing I wonder about. Heroes Online is partially set in Heresh, and even the Heroes 7 map places Aguirre's base of operations in Heresh, which means it was used by Necromancers even before the Second Eclipse...

Originally, I thought that Necromancer only moved to Heresh after being banished from the Seven Cities? Not to mention that Belketh leads Heresh at the time of Heroes Online, which makes little sense considering that he supposedly left in order to conduct his own research...

Heresh was Academy colony even before 2nd Eclipse. Spider Cult was still House Eterna from Seven City but had outposts founded in Heresh.
In Ashan Compendium there is a map of Academy terytories in 490 YSD and city of Nar-Heresh and much of Heresh peninsula is colonized by Academy.

Necromancers had a great deal autonomy there if they had Heresh fight in a border war with the Falcon Empire without any Wizard involvement...

Still, that makes sense, I suppose.

Most cities and settlements of "Seven Cities" and the later Silver Leagues were defacto autonomous. The Wizard's Council, which is the nominal ultimate authority, rarely convenes and excercises it's authority.
This makes that Cities and Settlements get to do whatever they want as long as it does not influence the whole that much. With House Eterna at the time still being by far the most influential Wizard House, even if the other Houses would have liked to do something, there was a good chance the Eterna representatives on the Council would have blocked such measures. And with a minor border skirmish it is questionable if they would want.

The Holy Inquisition that existed in H6 was indeed disbanded (the one that had his HQ in Castelrose), but there have been other Inquisitions in various periods of time. Indeed, times of Eclipses have a tendency to cause an Inquisition to be formed -- they are just not as "permanent" and powerful as the Holy Inquisition was during H6 era.

Also, as you could read in the Tales of the Ten Years War, Seamus basically turned the Crusaders into his own personal Inquisition.
