Leaving the past behind

I'm somewhat puzzled in regards to how games are placed in the timeline - there has been no game that would take place after Dark Messiah - and I can't exactly be certain why. Can't they just choose one of DM's endings and start from there?

Just now saw this and have to agree...it would be nice to delve into the future. This way, one always knows part of the outcome, which makes for much less suspense!

There is already a thread called "Story of Heroes VIII" and there is discussion there about going forward with the story after the events from Dark Messiah

Basically at the time the H5 producer (Fabrice Cambounet) started Heroes Kingdoms, a browser-game set in one of Dark Messiah's possible futures. To keep the games clearly separate, the choice was made to go back to the past with H6.

I hope that we'll move forward in the timeline again after Heroes VII.

If I am not wrong, I believe that the history lore is quite all covered up in H7.

I do believe sincerely, that regaining control of Ashan, will be the strong possibility for a heroic story behind the reason to make Heroes 8.

Heroes 8 could very well, be the end, of the story about the whole magical existence of the world of Ashan.

Seeing a future beyond Heroes 8 is pure speculation and, quite impossible to pinpoint its "raison d'être" in this space colonization era of ours.

Sid Meiers's Starships is quite the proof that indicates the return of the 4X Spacebound conflicts of infinite possibilities of alien species of within our own Milky Way Galaxy.

Magic, mythology and, medieval history of the human civilizations is quite over covered for the past 25 years.

Same goes for Street-Fighting games. Street-Fighter 5 and, Mortal Kombat 10 could very well be the last editions of both PC and console gaming types of gaming as all of us know it.

I think it's got something to do with not spoiling Dark Messiah. After all, if you do a story after that, you basically have to pick one of the endings as canon.

Actually, Jeff Spock implied another, fifth ending possibly being used - Sareth can not choose and decides to keep the Skull of Shadows for himself, while fate of Ashan hangs in the balance as he wonders, which choice would be the best.

So, Cliffhanger ending.
