Minastir's HVIII line-ups

Minastir's HVIII line-ups

After designing my own Fortress line-up for THIS thread, I thought about making line-ups for factions not included in HVII and then I just decided to make line-up for every faction (HVIII).
To design the line-ups i have used mainly artworks from previous games, Duel of Champions and Ashan Compendium so the line-ups would be more possible to appear in the game .


In this thread the line-ups were created for Ashan world, if once again there would be another game in this universe. But a lot have changed since this thread was created and at this point, I hope they won't make another game in this world. I hope we will move on to much better new setting for Heroes.

What kind of setting ? Well, we are making (me and Articun) whole new entire world, with all factions (10) combining classic, iconic with new and fresh ideas

Brute/Crusher -(Walker/melee) - Melee walker demage dealer with Unfettered ability.
Harpy/Fury- (Flyer/Strike and Return) - Melee flier with strike and return ability and no retaliation.
Gnoll/Gnoll Hunter -(Walker/melee) - Melee walker with a Opportunity Shot.
Goblin/Goblin Hunter -(Walker/shooter) - Small ranged damage dealer can be sacrificed by Dreamreaver or eaten by Cyclopses.

Elite:
Centaur /Marauder Centaur -(Walker/shooter) - Walker mobile shooter.
Dreamwalker/Dreamreaver -(Walker/spell caster/saboteur) - Walker spell caster with debuff spells and ability to sacrifice goblins too boost their magic.
Wyvern/Venomous Wyvern -(Flyer/melee) - Melee flier with acid breath and regeneration.
Oliphant/War Oliphant -(Walker/melee/tank) - Tough and durable damage dealer.

Champion:
Roc/Thunderbird -(Flyer/melee) - Flier with supporting abilities based on Air magic.
Cyclops/Enraged Cyclops -(Walker/shooter) - (throws rocks like in HIII, no evil eye, there has to be new catapult for stronghold) - Tough ranged damage dealer.
Behemoth/Ancient Behemoth -(Walker/melee/tank) - Melee damage dealer with piercing claws.






Core:
Pixie/Sprite -(Flyer/melee/support) - Small damage dealer negating enemy retaliation with Spray Attack.
Hunter/Master hunter -(Walker/shooter) - Ranged damage dealer with double attack.
Forest Predator/Forest Guardian -(Walker/melee) - Fast strike and return damage dealer.
Blade Dancer/War Dancer -(Walker/melee) - Melee walker, attacks all adjacent foes at once.

Elite:
Emerald warrior/Emerald knight -(Walker/melee) - elite within the elven military riding on a stag into battle - Fast damage dealer with supporting abilities.
Druid/Elder Druid -(Shooter/spell caster/saboteur) - Saboteur and ranged damage dealer with entangling abilities.
Pegasus/Silver Pegasus - (Flyer/melee/support) - Fast flier damage dealer with supporting abilities.  
Unicorn/Golden unicorn -(Walker/melee/support) - Antimagic support unit.

Champion:
Phoenix/Greater Phoenix -(Flyer/melee/support) - Flying and hard-to-kill creature with self-resurrection ability and supporting abilities.
Green Dragon/Emerald dragon -(Walker/melee) - Tough damage dealer with area of effect damage.
Treant/Ancient treant -(Walker/shooter/tank) - Tough and resistant shooter with entangling abilities and dryad protection ability.

Angel/Archangel -(Flyer/melee/support) - Flier with supporting aura and Resurrection ability.

Great lineups!

Really great line-ups so far, much better than HVII. Only thing I would change is Dungeon: either switch Medusa with Beholder at Core or outright drop her, reduce Hydra to Elite and put Faceless (a spellcaster) as the second Champion unit.

First, I would like to follow my pre-posters: These lineups are realy great. For recommending a qp, I honestly have to say though, I'd wish for more information/detail. Will you give abilities later? and maybe also hero classes? Or even town? Because these lineups are great, I think they deserve to get detals and surroundings as well and I would expect you to do these good as well!
Also a general question: what about updates?

Now, for a few single points, positive and negative...
Fortress and Inferno are simply awesome! Especially on the latter, on which I think you made a really good job in picking the creatures from the previous games.
I am not a big sanctuary fan, but so far, it looks quite ok.
Necropolis is also a great lineup, though these would't be my choices and I stillamnot such a fan of sekeleton archers.
Dungeon...I always find dungeon hard, because by now the options are so many...I think you did a quite decent picking. Depends a bit on the abilities, maybe.
On Sylvan...I think you should pick one of those where you are uncertain each...alsoI'd vote fortaking the melee elf warrior out, but that is personal taste maybe. To judge the forest guardian, I would need to hear its special abilities.

For mroe factions: Which are you planning to do?  hopestronghold is next, would really like to see your ideas on the barbarians!

I don't know if my suggestions contribute anything but maybe they will be food for thought:

1) merging necropolis wraith/d.k. allows for one more innovative creature to join the ranks
2) wraith should be flyer/teleporter
3) forest guardian looks like the gargantuan from h4... semi-ranged (as in leaping) or ranged could be made use of, while restricting druids to support spellcasting


Other than that, the ideas (esp the pictures) are verrrry nice!

Overall the lineups look really good.

Since I am a fan of the more mythological creatures I don't really like the ones who are not based on any creature in particular(for example the forest guardian and the magog).

I also think that 2 dwarves in the fortress core lineup could be a bit much,I mean you have basically a melee dwarf and a throwing dwarf,thats it,but it is still much better than the h5 lineup anyway.
And having pearl priestress and medusa seems a bit weird to me too,as if the dungeon had a stronger version of the sanctuary unit.

This is still work in progress,I would like to create line-ups for others factions then make creatures upgrades and abilities. Townscreens ? Yes that's something I could make (I have collected some artworks during creatures searchings) but in another thread, this one is for line-ups, I don't want to make this one messy. Hero classes ? I could take care of visual side but somebody else would have to create names and skills for them.

Next will be Haven and swamp faction, and i don't know how to name it Bastion, Citadel, Rampart ?

1)merging these two creatures would create grim rider and from what i have read on this site, people would like these creatures separate. Let's suppose grim rider would be second champion, do you have any ideas for third elite ? pls no spider and lamasu
2)ok, i can change that
3)semi-ranged - ok, ranged -no I'm going to create alternate sylvan line-up (little bit changed) and ask you if it's better, but i really like the semi-ranged/ leaping

I think 2 dwarves in a lineup is ok, in HV almost whole line-up consist of dwarves You're right pearl priestess is too similar to medusa so I have followed your idea and changed sanctuary line-up

Well, one thing that is a bit sad is that the hydra is not in the swamp this way.^^

But except that, the lineup looks reasonable. Maybe the Shaman needs a rename because shamans are stronghold in Ashan? Maybe something like Medicine Man?

I think Marsh drake and poison frog are kinda lame as champion units,I mean there are already so many dragon champions(green dragon,black dragon,fire dragon,spectral dragon and the kirin is a spectral dragon) and poison frog is kinda....just a big frog.

like i said it's still Ashan, so Hydra is still in dungeon

oh yes I'm going to rename it, i forgot about HV Shaman, how about witch doctor ?

well it can be changed of course, I just thought that people would like wyvern back in swamp faction, i don't know what kind of different flying creature fits swamps

I have a idea but for walker, something like a gorgon in HIII but it's Catoblepas - a legendary creature from Ethiopia. It is said to have the body of a buffalo and the head of a wild boar. Its back has scales that protect the beast, and its head is always pointing downwards due to its head being heavy. Its stare or breath could either turn people into stone, or kill them.

Witch Doctor is indeed better. Also, in Ashan, there are different kinds of Hydras, as it was stated when we got the dungeon units preview. In Dungeon we have a deep cave Hydra, another hydra could inhabit lakes or swamps.

If you don't like Swamp drake you can always use a Swamp Hydra, more to the looks of Heroes V or Heroes IV.

If you need a champion you could use a Swamp elemental or some giant insects like the Praying Mantis. After all, swamp is the natural habitat for many insects, snakes and other reptiles etc

well i like marsh drake, do you ? and i think it resembles more of a snake than wyvern/dragon so i doesn't look like other dragons, more like a one headed hydra
