That explains everything, Sala
Thanks for your patience reading this topic, and fixing this things.
But, really, I am so unexperienced, because I've been playing this game from 11 years ago, but I didn't understood anything.
I always needed to repair/buy a new computer/install a new Windows Version, so I had very little time to play and understand the game.
Finally,around 6 months ago, I managed to download the game from a site (I bought legal the game, but my CD/DVD-Driver is not working that good, or is not working at all sometimes, and sometimes does errors, or does corrupt the files on the CD. So before getting a new computer, I tryed to play one more time this game (LOL, I am still going to keep playing this LOOOOOTS of times
So, let's say that now I am likely starting a new life, playing again Heroes, but this time, beign a popular map-maker (not popular, but I want to make great maps, even for my-self).

So, Lizzy now wants to teach me how to complete the maps.
Want to see what changes he helped me make ?

Last map I made was long ago though, but about 10 years ago I made quite a lot of them. I can say that the point is when the time and caring about details are combined. If you add to it a good idea for a map/campaign, then you might succeed in doing a very good one.

About my maps and campaigns, sadly, I didn't publish them and they are phisically lost (only thing that's left is my memory about their storylines and landscapes). I might recreate at least one of them when I have time and will to do it.

Anyway, good luck on your work.

Well ... technically, you need time to polish a map, and consider every detail. The sum of all of those details is the map, so yes, you need time to make a good map .

I have no secrets. I played the game for 12 years, know by heart all good maps, I believe I could imagine a few situations other maps do not offer, and then I spent a lot of time on each map, until I was happy with. I got also valuable testers in HC, and that helped a lot.

And when I say I know by heart all good maps, it means exactly what i say. I removed and replaced every object in each until I got the pattern for optimal use of the editor. Is a matter of time, like in everything.

It has to exist a mid term betwen you spending 9 to 16 month's on a single map and Husham spending less then 10 minutes and I just hope is not me going back to the beginning after spending more then two month's coding and testing something that is probably more boring then some of these maps - at least you don't need more then 10 hours of gaming after the ratio betwen your armies power and the one of your enemies becamed greater then the one betwen the USA and Portugal.

Friends, let's try to keep the comments and criticisms constructive. Rather than simply mocking, try to give helpful suggestions for improvement. If you can't do that, just don't post at all.

What Salamandre and you sayd about yourself isn't a break of the CoC, but what you mocked on me is. Maurice for example simply gave me important info (thanks), and LW helped me understand how to make nice maps. You and Sala started mocking, but greatfully you stopped. This forum was indeed made to ask for help, and other things releated to HC/answer. What did Corribus sayd is that you MUST give important info instead of mockeries. Now you understand ?
Theoretically it IS a break of the CoC.

I didn't mocked you here.
Can you honestly say you took more then 10 minutes to create any of the maps that you had published when I wrote the comment? Or is it the word boring that is a mockery?
There had been dozens of guys and girls spending hundreds of hours creating a single map for 15 years by now. If you expect a map created by you in less then an hour, when you didn't had any experience using the map editor, must be considered something else then boring in comparison, I would say you are the one mocking their work.
And while I think pointing out that you lack perspective when evaluating your own contributions is a construtive comment, that wasn't what I was doing. I was putting my own work in perspective and being sarcastic about it. I'm back to the scratch board, btw.

I guess you didn't. Indeed, I NEVER did sayd that theyr work was bad, nor my work is good. What I released until now was really stupid, but I started updating the maps. Sala more mocked on me, but at the last part, he started being more calm, and give great tips. Indeed you didn't find yourself in any of those 'bad ppl that became good' list.

Anyways, I consider you and Sala great people respecting work, and any mockery is for my best, whatever if you did or NOT mock me.

Listen, I don't know how old you are but I suspect when I started to play this game you weren't old enouch for elementary school.
I played many thousands of hours and spend hundreds making or editing maps, I discovered WoG more then 3 years ago and I started to make my own scripts several months ago and I really love Heroes III.
Yet, when I first came to this community I was so wrong about my place here and what I tought I knew I end up being banned. I was only able to came back cause I had a new internet provider and another computer so I could make a different acount. I think I made myself a valuable member of the community since then.
I also learned how to play, something I believed I was already good at despise the evidence that I couldn't survive most of the maps I was downloading.
I can now survive a SoD random map at 200% in most templates but I'm still so bad I have difficulty to imagine how can someone beat Better AI at maximum level without cheats but I feel I have to play it at that level and that's why I use starting armies like the one you saw some time ago.
I don't considerer myself stupid but when I see maps people like Salamandre or Corribus were able to make I know I am like a child playing socker when compared to first league professionals. Same goes for Maretti and playing it.
I try to learn as much as I can but I already know I will not acchive their level and there is no problem with that. I still have fun in the process. But I would be fooling myself if tought that just cause I made a script or a map I must have a "special" place among them.
I was once banned for saying asinine things, don't want to do it again. It takes time to master something, a kind of time you are probably too young to even understand (like in your example about the Monalisa).

P.S. Hope this makes any sense to you.

@Salamandre...
You DID give me good replyes. I know there is some good in you...
Somewhere very deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep...

@Bloodsucker
Really ?
How comes... You were banned...
Weird.

Anyway, Sala has maps at least decent, I mean really nice maps. So does LW, and Corri, the only peoples that I met until now that do nice maps. But let's say, when you are a kid playing soccer, you do it for fun. If you are in the championship, you just do it for money. If you simply use to make a map, is for fun. The tool was made for fun, the GAME was made for fun. But if you make some money though it... It is totally other plan.
What am I saying is that the maps would be done by anyone (and so the football-playing), but you need to train. To train until you know it, at least decent. Then you could consider yourself better than Sala (Messi, Ronaldo).

That's the problem. Is not you who has to consider yourself this or that, is the world you're in.
There are things that are objective: I can't beat Maretti, I can't beat BAI at 1000%... and there are things that are subjective like "this map is better then that one".
But saying Sal or Woodmelon or Corribus made decent maps and any one can do the same with time is (almost) like saying that Bach had some good notions of composition. You really don't seam clever when you say it.

Well, I don't seem clever, but I am a true one. Regarding to the world we are in, some people advanced, and some simply devolved. But, beign in a forum full of nice peoples, like Salamandre, Corribus, and others make it. What am I saying is that when you actually do some stuff, you have to concentrate. You could BEAT anyone if you keep, and really want, and you know, you have a big motivation. But well, it will pass the time. I don't know more words to inspire peoples, or to raise the morale, but it seems like you understand those words.

Do you really think all the players Maretti has beaten over the years were careless amateurs with no motivation?
Just look at sports: you can train harder and harder, get a great coach, etc... when preparing for the Olympics but do you really think your competitors are drinking Coke and eating hamburguers in front of the TV while you train? Yet, only one can win the gold medal.
Hard work and motivation play an important part on being successfull but talent and even luck are also required. The amount of wich will vary from case to case.
The illusion "we are all winners" is simply a lie the establishment is interested in cultivating.

@Bloodsucker
Really ?
We all know that ''we are all winners'' it's true. We are all humans, the most supreme creatures made by God, witch live together, and we all come from Adam. We are all a BIG, BIG family.
If someone wins, we all win, because animals couldn't race, couldn't play football, couldn't do that much as we do. So that is a victory for humanity, ya know ? Sure, you will say is not, because every victory IS costing money. But indeed, money lets you live, so that's great for each other personally

@markmasters
We ARE on topic. We are talking about the ''great masters of map-making'' at Heroes of Might and Magic III (Horn of the Abyss, ERA).
