Oh good Lord, here we go again...

By the way, it's strange that my kinsmen see Afghanistan as the most dangerous country, if anything it would be India, considering the diplomatic incident we're involved in, or China, considering that we're slowly being conquered...

I am aswell. At least when it comes to Germany. Finland is in this case a little harder to read. But Sweden, meh, we have been spewing hateful propaganda towards USA since the days of Olof Palme, so no surprise there.

But isn't Sweden constantly trying to develop some degree of "military cooperation" with USA/NATO? Surely they wouldn't do that if they thought the US was the biggest security threat of all countries? I mean, it's so obvious they wouldn't cooperate on any training or operations with Russia.

Finland has had this "fear" of Russia since forever. If any other country should seem more threatening here, it would have to be because of some recent war activity with high publicity. So, I guess this survey must be from around one of those times the US was "bringing freedom" to the middle east. Right now it's nearly impossible to turn on the TV/radio without hearing some kind of discussion/argument about whether Russia is a likely threat to us or not.

This means that Poland was the only country that predicted that something like this would happen, hm?

@Nitramar The question in the survey is who is the biggest threat to WORLD security, not to Finlands security...

You know what, you're right!

Or maybe Germany, people over here don't like that Germans dictate how should we treat our economy.

Also, @Minion, every man's country is every man's world, threatening your country is like threatening the world, that's how we see things over here...

Sweden does not want to join Nato, but still wants Nato to back us up, even though they have no reason to. In layman's terms, we want the protection but remain neutral. Which is a bit difficult.

I know, but I'm quite sure that people's answers would be very much biased by the attitudes in their own country.

Replace Sweden with Finland and NATO with Sweden and you get pretty much the situation that we have over here .

x2.

@ ohfor: they're the biggest threat to everything on the planet. the weather going nuts is an offshoot of their occupation here, and  their carelessness. they're a threat to themselves, and every other living thing, as well. the idea of human society is the only thing that seems relatively safe, in comparison to what they do to everything else. and what happens to the things that threaten their ideas? the things that would threaten their ego's? take a look at each nation, and you have your answer to that.

Safe from what?

We're animals and like all other animals we adapt in our own way. The combined things we do influence the ecosystem in a way that may threaten the delicate balance of many species, but I doubt we influence it more than e.g. algae or bacteria. Organisms that many more animals depend on, but on the same time may have provided the extinction of many others, it's all a balance and not black and white.
Take antibiotics as an example, it has a positive effect because our body can restore our microbiomal balance, otherwise it'd be really dangerous.
Regarding the weather, yeah I won't be surprised if we've a major effect there too, but the weather itself does fluctuate with or without us and life won't perish because of it, it'll adapt. It's only the life as we know it that will change, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing, it happened before us too.

you mean like the polar ice caps melting, the ocean levels rising, and eventually drying up the earth to a near desert? my guess is, human beings won't be around then. they'll have died from starvation and overpopulation long before that. but IF they had adequate food, and continued to populate/spread/consume like they are now, this planet would eventually be a desert. like that "star wars" planet. i would hope i get reincarnated as a Sarlacc.

Our society as a whole should change and adapt its behavior regarding the environment, this has already started anyway and nobody with a little bit of common sense would object to that. But one must remember that when you talk about threats, you are talking about things that are VALUED being put in harms way and we are the only specie around here capable of assigning value to things, we are also the only specie which is capable of caring for other species. (Maybe with the exception of dogs and a few other high mammals but that's on a very primitive level.) Life on Earth came pretty close to extinction five times before us, nobody thought of it as a bad thing or some abomination. As dangerous as we are, we are also the only ones capable of that conceptualization and doing something about it.
