Not who but...what;

The bizarre fact that Modern people seem to hugely favor the sensationalism of any and all Negative-News.

Headline:  "A School-bus on the other side of the world veered off the side of a mountain and plunged into lake piranha 3,000 feet below killing thousands of toddlers."

Several days later the argument still rages across N.A.;

"You're an idiot! Gigo got the guy drunk; he was a good bus-driver till he started dating Gigo."

Meanwhile...

Our society as a whole should change and adapt its behavior regarding the environment, this has already started anyway and nobody with a little bit of common sense would object to that. But one must remember that when you talk about threats, you are talking about things that are VALUED being put in harms way and we are the only specie around here capable of assigning value to things, we are also the only specie which is capable of caring for other species. (Maybe with the exception of dogs and a few other high mammals but that's on a very primitive level.) Life on Earth came pretty close to extinction five times before us, nobody thought of it as a bad thing or some abomination. As dangerous as we are, we are also the only ones capable of that conceptualization and doing something about it.

yeah, people are starting to care, but at such a slow pace(the epidemic of caring about the planet comes near dead-last in their list of priorities, also); and definitely not at the same pace as what is an ever-increasing detriment to the planet. so i am inclined not to agree with you on this aspect.

as for assigning value, i would say that the fact that we are capable of such a thing; of understanding the nature of existence and what is needed to balance it(kinda laughable, but bear with me), and the actual power to change the impact of our time spent on earth, gives us a unique position. one that leaves us solely responsible, imo.

one that is capable of being aware, can change things for the better. and if they are the only being to do so(which, i don't think so. i have seen evidence of animals other than humans who have a more acute understanding of their environment), they definitely should. as we are supposedly moral creatures(lol), then it should be a duty to do so.

we are also supposedly capable of logic(again, lol at the masses), and it is only logical to take care of what sustains us in our existence. that also plays along with our ego(and it's continuity), but somehow, the masses lean the other way; more towards the destructive side of their ego's.

no, i believe their priorities are reversed, as far as value goes. but i agree(obviously), that they should all take better steps to improve their footprint. it is a much larger footprint than they seem to wholly understand, as a species.

Well, the thing is

a) Everything changed quite suddenly, only a century ago, extreme majority of people were living in agricultural areas and traveling by riding animals. And then, the deodorant you use digs a hole in the sky...

b) This is an issue where very little, unnoticable things accumulate, every time you leave a light on and doze off or drive to a place in walking distance, you are part of that "illogical masses." It's not like some evil group is deliberately trying to destroy the Earth. More radical precautions would indicate everybody giving up some major comfort in their lives (except Markkur with his bow).

But anyway, this is not the Earth thread, let's go back to talking about how everybody voted your country as the biggest threat to world peace.

Well, killing two birds with one stone here. I'm probably the biggest threat now. I'd need a "camo-crane" to lower my bum into the woods; who knows what the paranoid world might do with that. i.e. "He's got lazer guided arrows and can see the whole upper earth."

Btw. I'd call it "Sky Phitt" <L> The latter word is the best I can do for my ancient pretend-sound for an arrow whizzing-by.

Let me guess, if such law for killing gays was proposed in Russia instead of this happy place you would go berserk, right?

Wow, it sounds like one of those parody news but it's actually real. McLaughlin, a lawyer since 1998, declared in his proposal that it is “better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath”.

I guess, that's what Steven Weinberg means when he says "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

Why are you so persistent on devolving into a troll, Xerox? You have the potential to be something more. Even the most dedicated, patriotic Americans will interpret this as an overstatement and you must already know it is not true. There are dozens of well-known examples where US backed up dictatorships, emirates or overthrew elected politicians. These are not hypothetical guesses, there are books and documentaries about them, written/made by American citizens themselves, memoirs, statements by insiders, people  like Henry Kissinger. So, why do you say something so childish and ridiculous? Do we have to treat you like DrakonDeus or something, is that really what you want?

they don't do it for freedom. in the very best case that would be for saving their economy, and then it seems it's not even the americans who need it the most who get the benefits...
what matters to USA, is that the political choices of other countries be in favour of american companies.
