It's much less of a jump to imagine him using his teeth along with his claws, when he uses the latter in a somewhat savage attack, than when he is dressed and acts like a swordsman.

You are quite correct, that even tho, I may know some stuff (which is still very little), this is irelevant to the HoMM vampire, as he has got hardly anything in common with regular vampire, who is not a warrior at all, and dosen't fight in army nor does he form cohesive battle units with hundereds of other vampires. So this means classic vampires are out of the question completly anyway.
Oddly, I didn't see the monster as being particularly effeminate in its looks. That's not saying I found the monster perfect, because in fact I was rather underwhelmed with this design also, but at least I feel it's a step in the right direction of bringing the game more back to the roots.
For me it matters less whether it actually makes sense to talk about a division of vampires as part of an army, Heroes really doesn't make any sense in that regard anyway, I mean pretty much any faction is a mumbo-jumbo of creatures who, if you look at their individual nature and mythology, seem very unlikely to fight in larger numbers as part of an army. So that I take sort of a premise of the game, and something I don't really mind. In a way, I think that's also why Heroes 1 and 2 worked so well, because they had such a naïve approach to both lore and graphics - I mean, things didn't really have an explanation in those games, they just were, and then you didn't really question them.

not effeminate? did you see his hair? omg. Not like the V6 vampire actual model or final art looked particulary femenine either.
