The bottom line is about knowing what we discuss here: is about shares between devs and modder who disturb you or mods going for money?

Mostly their shares. I have no problem with UGCs being monetized. It's the right of the creators to do how they see fit. But I do have a problem when the modders are at the mercy of a third party which regulates their revenue.

Also, I have a personal view on modding that it's best done out of passion and not out of greed. For this reason I believe that donations is the most appropriate way of receiving revenue for mods.

He is right on the technical side: what if game patches break paid mods, what if mod uses material from other paid mods, what if SKSE goes paid too, as most mods rely on it and so on, expect head ache for customers. But he also says that every work should be paid, anywhere, and I absolutely agree with that.

It's illegal when the developers won't allow the user to sell his mods, in the event that a system (like this one) allows this with the endorsement of the developers this becomes legal.
In some cases the developers can take a fan mod and sell it as their own, as they are the proprietors of the program (feel free to correct me on this) just like Microsoft did with Age of Empires II and the fan expansion Forgotten Empires.
Anyway, most of the times the terms of service of games that allow modding have a clause regarding who actually owns the content (most of the times the developer, but, feel free to correct me on this one too).

Unfortunately I can't really give a serious insight regarding the legal terms of this...

Anyway, time for me to make an overpriced armor.

how do capitalism even apply when there is hardly any capital to begin with?
what do you need to make a mod? a computer and a game. chances are you didn't buy them solely to make mods, so I doubt it may even be called a capital.
then you can make infinite copies for practically no cost.
to me that sounds more like a step towards communism that towards capitalism. everyone can take advantage of it for free. but no, of course we can't allow that anything else than capitalism may work.

Yeah, infact, why should companies have to do any work for the money THEY make?

Let's put modders make all the content for anything in sweatshops and let the corporations rake in the money

That's the capitalist dream, isn't it?

That was in 1995 when you just had to change some value in txt files then call it a mod. Nowadays, to make a mod (a decent one) you need an respectable number of graphical tools (3DS max at 4000 dollars anyone?), then programming language. Wed know that most people making graphics stole 3DS max from torrents (I did, what else I could do) but in theory, you have to invest a lot of money (beside time), to be able to make good mods.

So are you telling me that because mods are now monetized, people will rush themselves into buying 3DS max and other expensive programs to make their mods, when there's already the option to get said programs for free?

in theory?
but actually not, because you've said everyone can have 3ds max for free. we all know what's happening on internet, we are naturally heading towards more sharing, more freedom, because the technology makes it possible.
companies are scared, because they used to have control of the production, of the distribution, but now everyone has that power and those companies risk becoming superfluous.

Same logic could be applied to paywalled mods, too.

Why bother buying when you could get them free off from *somewhere*?
