Expo Milano 2015

Since tomorrow the Expo is going to open, I thought it was time to make a thread to discuss it.

From the main page:

Quote:
Expo Milano 2015 is the Universal Exhibition that Milan, Italy, will host from May 1 to October 31, 2015. Over this six-month period, Milan will become a global showcase where more than 140 participating countries will show the best of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium. In addition to the exhibitor nations, the Expo also involves international organizations, and expects to welcome over 20 million visitors to its 1.1 million square meters of exhibition area.

A platform for the exchange of ideas and shared solutions on the theme of food, stimulating each country’s creativity and promoting innovation for a sustainable future, Expo 2015 will give everyone the opportunity to find out about, and taste, the world’s best dishes, while discovering the best of the agri-food and gastronomic traditions of each of the exhibitor countries.

I've been looking forward to this, as it appears to be a great opportunity for Italy to get some positive recognition in the world, and it could potentially bring a good amount of cash.

But, the news reported that to this morning the site is still under construction, so it will be surprising to see if it is up to promises.

Anyway, I'm going there in June since it's still a great event that has been publicised here since two years, and I'm curious to see what it's going to offer to visitors.

So, what is your opinion? Did your countries give some coverage to it or was it ignored?

Didn't hear of this Expo until right now. It sounds interesting. A personal friend of mine is in Italy right now, he might be a bit more aware of this, given that he's out there for studying and working.

In due course, I might update some info regarding my country's participation in this Expo if any.

Not really. The main reason is that Poland won't be represented during this Expo. As far as I remember, the main theme of this Expo was "Food" and despite my huge and everlasting love with Italian food I believe that Poland has very much to offer in aspect of nutrition. We, as a country, are one the greatest producers of apples, common oats, blackcurrant, etc. Moreover, because of increased interest in traditional food, that was nearly forgotten during the Communist era, we can also be proud of our local ham, cheese and beers. I could account for many delicious food items created in Poland (like cream fudges called in our country "krówki" ("little cows")) but this would only sadden me that Poland has no display during this Expo. I consider it a missed opportunity.

I am from Romania, witch is not far from Italia. I think I could get myself a ticket and go check that fashion expo. Although I enjoy expositions.

Um, this isn't a fashion expo, the main theme is regarding food.

I'm sad to hear that you didn't know this was happening, I guess it was important just for us Italians.

Anyway, the time has come, an hour ago the Prime Minister Renzi officially opened the Expo and signed the Chart of Milan after a big ceremony.

Although, there is a lot of discontent over here, there have been attempts to hack the main site and prevent the sale of tickets, today coincidentally is the holiday of workers, so there is a traditional May parade, usually participated by workers, but today there will be protesters of the Expo and the authorities fear that within them there will be violent ones.
I'm not surprised that there will be people that will contest violently, yesterday there have been already episodes of vandalism and during this week the police have confiscated weapons from groups coming from all over Europe.

Well, we'll see what we shall see, the authorities took all the countermeasures that are required, but since that incident in Rome when there was the Rome vs. Netherlands I'm not fully trusting them.

Today Milan is truly the center of attention if there are violent protesters coming from all over the place.
