I realy love this mod, so I decided to create an account to share my thoughts and be able to contribute to make it even better.

Maybe it is possible to position the images inline. Doing this, you can put each skill closer to the previous one. (I only editted basic and advanced occultism)
This saves a bit space, making it possible to enlarge the text a bit if needed.

I think I got something real good
This is what I see on my 1920x1080 laptop screen:

With 1024x768:

With 640x480:

640x480 current for comparison:

@magno
I just realized the skill explanations in the doc file do not match what's in the game. I suppose it's outdated. Do you have a file with current skill descriptions?

By the way, is there Ultimate Occultism, or that's outdated too?

That's great!, I wanted to check those maps possible missing script functions or conflicting mod content, but they came out clean. I wonder did you also test with simultaneous turns on?

I can report that 8 skills and simultaneous turns works 100% in LAN multi-player. Human players only of course. My friend and I are going to try same game with PEST soon.

Same here. Never had a problem with simultaneous turns + 8 skills.

Hey magno,
Is there an update coming soon?
I was thinking if I can complete this before that so you can include it in the next update.

But for that, I would need the current (including any upcoming changes) skill description information.

Also, I have a suggestion that I feel very strongly about: Drop the name "Learning" and let the skill be called "Enlightenment"

Because, if you think about it, there are three skill tree anomalies:

i) Barbarians' Enlightenment skill tree is different, and their tree gets to be called Learning.

ii) Warlocks' Occultism skill tree is different but it's still called Occultism.

iii) Necromancers' Leadership skill tree is different and that's recognized only with a special-case warning.

In sum, I propose to do these:

1) Let Enlightenment be called Enlightenment for all and draw a separate appropriate skill tree for Barbarians and show both trees in the skill descriptions screen side-by-side, just like I did with Occultism.

2) Do the same for Necromancers. Recognize that they have a different skill tree, albeit the difference is not that drastic compared to other cases above.

3) Move all the special cases that are shown in the Appendix to their respective skill description screens, just with the icons as shown in the Appendix screen. This way, all the relevant information would be shown together in a single screen. Unstoppable Charge and Preparation would go in the Combat screen, Twilight in Light Magic, Urgash's Call in Gating, Absolute Protection in Runelore, Rage of the Elements in Occultism, and Arcane Omniscience in Artificer.

4) Include as information in respective Skill screens that Barbarians cannot learn Power of Speed (Offense), Power of Endurance (Defense) and Celestial Shield (Shatter Destructive).

5) With all of the above done, no need for the Appendix screen, so get rid of it

6) Drop the word "Magic" from Shatter skill names. I think it's way too wordy when you say Shatter Destructive Magic. Shatter Destructive. It's self evident

Appendix IS needed for the information regarding ultimate skills.

I don't think you read my whole post. I propose to remove it only after all the information on it is moved to relevant skill description screens, of course including the Ultimate's, which I explicitly mention in my post.

One last observation and proposal: In the skill trees, the primary skill progression is top to bottom, but the secondary skill progression is left to right. I mean, sure, once you get used to it, you learn it, and once you learn it, no problem.

But, from a design perspective, it's just wrong: non-consistent and potentially confusing for new comers. So, let's change the skill tree infographic so that all skill progression is top to bottom.

Proposed skill tree is on the left:

@Belisarius: thank you for your work on the new trailer movie, I seem to have difficulty keeping track of everything going on in this thread.

@ThGryphn: I sent you an IM

+ with regards to name changes I hate going through all the game files for instances again, so please keep everything as is.

I have no issues removing the appendix if it can all be fit neatly in the other pages, but I guess I have to see how it works out before judging.

I strongly disagree about the vertical branches, people have been using the horizontal ones in the xazardous mods since 2008!

Don't bother with 640x480, minimum is 1024x768 and not very important.

Replied

The thing is, it's not horizontal. Part of it is vertical, part of it is horizontal. I mean, I understand that people got used to it, but I think it's confusing for less experienced players.

To clarify, along with that proposed change, I intended to put in a visual cue to show the skill progression direction, which would apply to the whole tree (top to down):

As long as we are trying the looks of different schematics of perks representation... Try for example to put perks the other way around: from bottom to top. To see how it looks compared to current look and proposed vertical look. (basic down, advanced middle, expert top)

I'll accommodate you but this is not what I'm proposing.
I think top to bottom is natural, bottom to top is not. Except for a few languages, we read top to bottom and left to right, so those are the natural directions for our brains.

Belisarius' idea:

I would be fine if the skill tree was fully left to right, so I'll make an example of that too...

Here is that one, all skills from left to right. I think this looks great too, but I like my previous proposal more
Strike that, I like this one more because it emphasizes the primary skill better. Also, comparing with the current screens where you have only the primary skill icons left to right, all it does in effect is to add the secondary skills. So, it's a very natural change...

Let's do this, please!!!

Well I must say that this way I like it better. (images from upper post)

my reasoning goes like this:
_______
"Except for a few languages, we read top to bottom and left to right, so those are the natural directions for our brains."
__________
Yes. Natural directions for reading (text). But then again             those are pictures, (images) representing a skill Scheme. With perks that constitute that skill...
______
I think top to bottom is natural, bottom to top is not.
_______

And somehow I feel that more natural is for Basic to be in   the bottom, then Advanced above it, and Expert on top. So on top     we have the Ultimate perk.
Like a Pyramid. Or any other building Scheme. Or lets say a layered Cake, for that matter. (best part is always on top of everything else)

Anyway, those are my 2 cents, on this.

PS: The first example have images with (the same) representation of perks, just rotated 90 degrees to left (counterclockwise)
