Poll Question:
Reviewing ICTC

Hello everybody. I want to open this Thread to get soem feedback on what you think about ICTC, discuss what want well or not so and - in the poll - especially review the restrictions. I also hope this entertains some of the participants until I manage to get together the feedbacks of Husham, Steyn and me (not that much work, I know, but I REALLY am occupied by my thesis now!).

Now, First, the question for the poll is: How did you like the restrictions that came (for the first time) into ICTC8? As a remembrance, the restrictions were a) the picture limit of 5 +1/creature and b) the restriction to 1 post.

Did you like both? Or dislike both? Or did you think one was great, the other bad? Or maybe you are impartial? Or liked the general direction, but not the exact way it was done (maybe more or less pictures allowed, f.e.)? OR maybe even you did not care at all. Choose the answer that fits you best - and then please post why you think so in this thread. And while you are at that...
...
...please also post general feedback and reviewing of ictc8 in this thread. You can also discuss the feedback others gave and such (of course staying friendly and constructive ). I hope such a process may give implications for future ictcs (and maybe other contests ).

Greetings to you all and Thank You for your involvement in ICTC8,
Jiriki9

Hmm, the picture limit must be lowed a bit, but if it was, I think that everyone would've put more then enough pictures, and all will be about pics.

The one post restriction wasn't nice, because well, I used to put the images and the post in the same topic, but it does LAG, and I had to split the photos and the original ones in 2.

Homewer, nothing bad happened, and only gnomes did split some texts into more posts. I guess is all fine.

Also, be free to ask me anything, as I can help more than expected.
And Jiriki, how's your master thesis ? I use to give my other one the next Monday.

Thanks for your support

First of all, thanks the judges for the feedback!

Now, before I disappear for several months, I want to say a few things.

Voted: I liked the 1-post-limit, but not the picture limit

1-post limit is fine because the faction needs to be concise and well written, and all the information there should be meaningful and relevant.

Now, the picture limit was not to my liking. It is fine to limit the pictures for the descriptions of factions to 5 (townscreen, landscape, faction symbol, map - the location of the faction and I don't know what else... ). It is also good that we have a picture for a every single unit. However, I would like to be able to include the pictures of faction heroes (let's limit that to 4-8), and the pictures of hero classes (1 for might, and 1 for magic class). I am not sure if anything else needs to be accompanied with the pictures... But these things need to be taken into consideration, I believe.

Now I gotta go, real life calls!

Same as Sleeping_Sun.

The advantage of more pics is that we can also write something on them too, if needed be, and it also helps avoiding writing things that can now be explained and shown by illustrating them - plus, it breaks huge blocks of texts, making it a less boring of a reading work.

I did run out of characters to write more things I wanted, because I felt it was incomplete, but 1 post limitation might be easier and fairer to round up relevant information and keep it steadier also for judging.

I feel the same way as Sleeping_Sun and PandaTar, even though I never got my faction finished, i don't think the pictures would have been enough to make me satisfied, though there should be some kind of limits to it.

So, here coems my own opinions:

First, I thought long and I actually did not like the restrictions much. To me it felt they mainly brought debate. The contest went extremely well, but I do not think it was because of the restrictions.  I do not think that one of the participants would have been scared away by an entry longer than 1 post (which was the main idea behind that) and for the pics...well, although I still get the idea I am now thinking: if someone finds great pics supporting the faction, why not? I actually do not think it does that much to the scoring. Also, such restrictions always have a tendency to make people think "if I can do that much maximal I will try to get as close to that maximum as possible, so I use all I can" - and that sends a false message imo. Short: There are tons of ways to create good factions and I think if someone presents a great one without pics - then it would be judged fairly.

Now on to the contest at whole: This was awesome, imo. So many new faces, so many entries, though not all finished - it was great and I am glad it was recepted so well! A thank you to all of you, again, here!!!!!
I think we had some awesome towns here, and even more awesome ideas.
Because some spoke of factions here being huge and having (too) much text, though, I want to mention we had some quite large(r) ones before in ICTC (and out of it as well). It all depends on the point of view and actually I (as my feedback should show) would have liked to know more and get more infos, more text, on all of the factions. Yes, all. It may be me being critical, but I think I always found SOMETHING missing. And I often gave not SO great scores on background because a faction could have used more description in my eyes. And I did not even expect people doing campaigns, which were done before

Also I want to mention some things I found interesting this years contest. First of all, I felt there were a bunch of themes going, of which more then one faction was made each. These were elementals (2 factions), Shantiri (used, I think, in 3 factions), Ylath&Freedom (4,5 factions) and Swamp (2 factions). Just interesting, I think, but also interesting for judging because you often had comparisons. Now another thing I found interesting was that town informations were rather...scarce this time. Which I personally found sad. Same goes for faction relations.

Still, it was a great contest!!!

The one post limitation wasn't decent, on the grounds that well, I used to place the pictures and the post in a similar subject, yet it does LAG, and I needed to part the photographs and the first ones out of 2.
