I am pretty surprised that Albania is in finals. Their singer jarred quite badly. Anyway, happy that Russia is in. The Russian singer gave a great performance IMO.

yes, I really LOVED it in spite of the obvious "it's an anti-war song from Russia" label.

i wouldn't worry too much about Hungary, it finished 8th or summat. it has absolutely not shot at reaching the left hand-side of the scoreboard, let alone win.

Hungary was really good, great vocal arrangements and harmonies. Certainly better than the crap from Armenia and what-else that also went through.

I hate Hungary's entry so much. It's so obnoxious and belittling. it vexes me that people describe it as "fragile and introverted" when it aggressively shoves its self-explanatory message down our throats. "All the souls deserve a chance at life" - oh for heavens sake, SOD OFF.

but no worries. It will not make the left-handside of the scoreboard on Saturday, as it rightfully should

I hate to have to agree, it's not necessarily the annoying anti war message it's the fact that the song lacked that raw emotion that it would inadvertably have if the singer truly believed in what they were singing, plus she was standing there stone faced...why... However, have to admit the softness at the start made my spine tingle. I liked Russia, her performance felt lively and you could see that she was singing from her heart.

It will score high, for sure. For now, I won't bet on any country, as the second half of semifinals is waiting for us, so we shall wait and see.

Well, yes, but that has a lot to do with the songs themselves:

"Wars For Nothing" is not a song that you can sing with much gusto - it is entirely dependent on stern glares as it's meant to be some strict life lesson to a class of Bad Pupils. "Wars for Nothing"'s message is inherently negative: War is Bad, People die all the time and you're all ignorant nitwits.

"A Million Voices" is a pro-peace pop anthem. In other words, it's a POSITIVE song that is meant to give us hope for better times. Therefore, it can and MUST be sung with emotion, joy and a dash of naïveté.

Evoking the right emotions is important, I totally agree with you onthat. but what emotions can be stimulated by a song depends mostly on the song itself.
