@ dagoth: thanks for the info. from what i've read elsewhere, the borders of the map are supposed to be crawling with high-level monsters, that just get worse the farther out you go until you eventually die. hopefully, dlc's will open the map up. i love exploring, side quests, easter eggs, etc.

i tend to play as a stealth character(i don't use power armor except in volatile areas where i need it), but it sounds like power armor might be kinda fun this time around. anything that helps me explore more is a plus.

if it is true that there is hidden or otherwise content underwater to find, i sure hope they added underwater monsters that are able to attack. mutant or toxic marine life would be cool.

The game is awesome so far. Yes, some stuff were removed, but not that much. Others were improved too. It's a fallout experience through and through.

I give it a 8.5 on 10. Points deducted for :

PC port with poor PC key binding
Not enough content for evil players compared to previous fallouts.
Not enough ways to solve a problem and too much shooting compared to previous fallouts. And the difference isn't dramatic.

Everything else is fun and great.

1. You can't shoot the immersion breaking dog (reminds me of ****ing Fable II/III...)

2. You can't kill that obnoxious slave robot.

Meanwhile I like Piper, really good VO and animation, her character walked a tight rope early on (cause I HATE journalists with a passion), but she really grew on me.

I'm starting to think the underwater content, if it's there isn't very rich, but there's a lot of mutated sea life that wants to kick your ass on land.

So I thought there would be a witch hat in Salem, but I couldn't find one and now I'm not happy.

So far, I enjoy it, despite the quests not being as interesting as they have been in the past and the very heavy emphasis on crafting.  I like the crafting quite a bit but at times, it feels more like a crafting simulator than anything else.

One aspect I really do enjoy is the revamped enemies.  Super Mutants and Mirelurks actually pose quite a threat now.  I was actually quite surprised and happy when I tried to defend a poorly defended settlement against marauding Super Mutants and got butchered.

You can craft some neat stuff sometimes, but honestly I am getting tired of searching the wastes for screws and wonderglue.

All I wanted was to be a witch with a flamethrowing sword and a laser machine gun.

I've played the game for less than an hour. Lots of things seem good, just that plot is awful. You'd expect some depth of some story.

lol, there were no witches in salem. that's the point. the townspeople that were killed in the name of witchcraft were innocent. much like the people in papa new guinea who are currently being burned alive for sorcery.

There is a museum of witchcraft and it was right before Halloween in a town only known for the witch trials and you are going to tell me there is not one stereotypical witch hat?

I mean they could have done it as an artistic representation of the fact there were no witches but given how they handled Salem in general in game I doubt it.

I'm very mixed about Fallout 4 to be honest.

The crafting and settlements are fun... At first. After hauling like 20th or 30th full load with me and my companion, breaking them down and still having no where near enough resources it really starts eat up the fun(that is literally all I do, scavenge crap). The same system ensures that I will never start a new game also because of how tiring it is to scrounge million little things and bring them to the settlements. I really hope Bethesda will do some fine-tuning to the system and continue to develop it with the future DLCs and patches.

Leveling/perk -system I really dislike. It makes the perks feel so small in effect while in the past they were one of the most interesting/fun parts of the game. Good bit of them also feel bit useless. Everything is dictated by you SPECIALs meaning you pretty much lock yourself to set character type since start(or like me you notice you really want extra carry capacity and keep leveling for that for the extra scrap). Now I feel like I should've read 200 pages of walkthrough before starting the game to avoid some rather useless perks and picked the "right" SPECIALs at start.

Companions so far seem worst in the last three games. They will contribute literally nothing in battles other than drawing aggro from enemies unless enemy sees you of course...(Clearly you are the only risk!). They can't die either which makes them a bit boring compared to past games. Their main role is really to give you perma-perk and be mules for scrap. For some reason my companions never wanna use guns I give them either, so far only single companion has used weapons she picked from ground. Generally dog seems to be able to do more damage than guy with laser rifle... at least the dog can take down enemies!

Creatures I feel had very major evolution. They really pose a threat to you especially when they come in packs. Sadly the AI is terrible, I was killing mirelurk kings, alpha deathclaws and stuff like that at level 5 pretty much. All you need is cabin with door and windows or some trees and enemy can't do anything as long as you got ammo. Heck sometimes it's enough to open door and go behind the door and enemy can have dozen enemies just standing next to you waiting you to shoot them. Level requirements done to places with uber strong enemies is another thing I dislike a bit(only way to kill them is via explosives basically).

For weapons/armor I really miss the free world of previous games where you could get high level weapons even pretty early on by exploring. Now the special gun is just normal with extra boost you find from legendary monsters(which are random I think). Same applies to weapons in general, until you level up you keep getting the same crap weapons everywhere. Crafting allows you to upgrade gun, but in reality it just feels waste of resources since you will find that upgraded gun in few levels anyway from ton of enemies.

Map locations are more frequent/closer than before I think. The world feels very nice I think. The map might be smaller than previous games, but I really disliked in New Vegas that most map was just empty areas so it's improvement.

Overall I'm enjoying the game to a degree. I feel like a lot of things could've been done better with small tweaks and adds. The game feels more like action shooter with rpg elements rather than other way around. I don't think the game is as good as FO3 or NV, it feels too streamlined in many ways. Btw the dialogue system is just plain horrible, old system was way better.

i don't get it. is there SUPPOSED to be a witch hat there? and if it was supposed to be there, what qualities would it possess if worn? make you like that butt-pirate harry potter, or would you be able to lure children into an oven, like witch hazel from looney tunes?

the possibilites of such a hat... hmmm... how about witch shoes? did you find a pair of striped legs sporting a pair of ruby slippers(that could make fast-traveling so much easier) sticking out from under a house? did you find any winged monkeys? how about a cauldron, or a looking glass?

more likely, did you find a pentagram, or any signs of a dunking booth, or maybe a pile of wood that was used in a human bonfire?

my point is, if salem was indeed the witch-hunting salem, then you would have found a trace of something by now.

maybe, it's the salem from "salem's lot". find anything vampiric? any nosferatu? how about any coffins? i seem to remember there being coffins in either fallout 3 or new vegas, in an abandoned satellite, if i remember right.
