Post quality system: Like and dislike.

So a side-note before I tell you my idea, I just happen to remember this gibberish(However it was spelled, someone correct me pls )

Anyways the general idea is juuuusst what the title says: A like and dislike system that clarifies the quality of a post, but with some twists:

1. This system should by no way be related to the Quality point and Penalty system.

2. The "quality" in a post caused by this system is far unlikely to be objective, it is only from the users' point of view.

3. Any like or dislike shouldn't affect the post in any way.

Also, IF you will accept this idea and implement it, you can place the indicators(i.e for example 5 Likes/2 Dislikes) you can place them on the left side of the post, just under one's account details, pic and name.

Also, if you are really willing to take the original idea please make it a little bit...

*Cough* *Cough*

I actually like the idea, right now you would have to make a seperate post in order to voice your support. However, I often refrain from doing so because I'm not adding anything to the discussion, and it would feel awkward to keep writing 'i agree' or 'you hit tbe nail on the head', this is a nice way to circumvent that.

It's only because it's impossible to do so, otherwise I would down-vote the OP.

But seriously, I am not looking forward to such a Facebook-esque system.

Well, I'm generally opposed to it, but if an user quality system would ever be implemented, I think it would be wise to limit it to the HC Supporter group only.

So, you have veteran members like Blizz, Adrius, Salamandre and so on, who had been around for years, who know the place like the back of their hands, who constantly produced quality content. Yet, in this new evaluation system, they wont have any effect whatsoever, meanwhile, any newbie who pays 5 bucks and purchases the title "HC Supporter" will vote whatever they like? I don't think so.

We can expand it; HC supporters and people with a certain amount of QPs on their name?

But I am still against such a system as it is biased and may lead to favoritism.

It's a solution to prevent abuse. Because if it can happen, it will happen. People will create accounts just to upvote / downvote stuff, just like on SC.

Sal and the others could get their privilege from their QP count, but iirc they already have a rating system.

Dunno, dun care. It's a pretty sketchy idea to begin with.

Nothing should ever be based on HC Supporter status. Ever.
Aside from that, I don't see the point. We've seen enough needless drama on the forum as it is. No need to give people another tool to bring down others.

I agree with both statements, especially the first one.

On small-sized forums like this, such features are used in too personal a way, both about liking ad disliking posts. It's not like Facebook where an anonymous crowd of friends of friends of friends like or dislike your posts.

You fledglings dont even know that a variant of this existed back in the olden days. Five star members could mark down threads with ratings such as inspiring interesting etc where mods would use those as material for further reference. Naturally threads werent that bloated and more often than not it was the op who was awarded. This was esp prevalent in h4 pre h5 era when mods such as the hydra and djive would meticulously mark everything down and follow up on suggestions. Ironically from then on it diminished.

The natural evolution of this system appeared in guardians grove, a less heroes oriented forum by former moderators rms and lich king which used vbulletin and it had a reputation system where points could be rewarded heavily akin to the current suggestion. Alas it didnt took off and was much less rewarding.

I would actually agree to the inclusion of some thumbs up button but it might eventually lead to populistic decisions rather than the moderators volition and judgment.

Hey, I can do that too...

As for the system itself, I would rather not have this be a thing. It just doesn't really serve a point over all, and I feel like someone would eventually develop a way to abuse it.

Pretty much every forum I've gone to already has a system where you can rate a thread between 1-5 stars or something similar. Some of them also use the reputation points system where the users themselves give posters green points or red points (there is a cooldown timer to rep or negative rep posters, so users are still forced to use it sparingly)

The QP system here is a unique animal and honestly not remotely as accurate to reflect the quality of posters. 1000 samples of data (1000 reps from different posters) will give you a more accurate representation than 10 samples of data (10 QPs from mods). Posters that can give out reps several times a week won't be waiting for some magical 6+ paragraph essay to give them out. With a rep system, it's pretty rare for quality posters not to have good reputation, or poor posters to have little or negative reputation.

QP system is here to stay though. It's been around forever and you'd have to undo all those QPs to adopt a new system, which would create rioting in the streets and statues of Valeriy being toppled in the capitol city square. Pigeons would be chasing cats, cats would be chasing dogs. There would be cook-outs and executions on central avenue. A gentle soul like Lexxan would probably be laying face down in a gutter and dead within the first 2 minutes of unrest; an expression of terror and hopelessness permanently etched into his pale, lifeless face, still soft to the touch like a newborn.  I wouldn't mind losing my QPs and adopting a new system though, provided that I can do whatever I want from that point forward.

Absolutely agree with OP. This is now standard feature and it's very practical. You know, people are posting a lot of nonsense and to mark post or user as helpful you need to stalk forum moderators. Post votes will make it faster and fair for every user.

would it show good posts or posts people just agree with though?

what i like about the QP-system is that the posts aren't necessarily just what most people agree with, but has (usually) at least some basic quality in them which won't be guaranteed with a vote-up system.
