@ markkur: that's something i've noticed as well. my favorite seasons, spring and fall, seem to be getting shorter and shorter, while winter and summer seem to be getting longer and longer. of course, whether this has happened over the span of my own lifetime, could be possibly an issue of perspective being different. but i don't think so. things feel off. i can say, easily, that there are FAR more people than there used to be around here. and the weather certainly feels much more erratic than it used to be. weather used to be mostly dependable. you could go out in winter knowing that it'd be cold; in autumn you'd know that it'd be cool, with leaves changing and falling most of the season; in spring, it would rain alot, and be gradually warming towards summer. now, winter will have much warmer than usual days; autumn goes from hot to cool to cold(and all the leaves are changed and gone) within a couple weeks, it seems; and spring is actually cold for most of the season, then in a couple weeks it gets warm and then hot, even before summer shows up. that, or the cold lasts alot longer, and the beginning of summer feels more like spring. summer, it seems, is a toss-up between horribly hot, to sometimes very mild, indeed. it's rained nearly all summer here; in other places, it's dry as a bone.

tl;dr, where i have lived most of my life, you could depend on the weather to be pretty much set for each season. now, seasonal traits can be all over the place. they're losing their order. kinda like what's happening to the human race(overpopulation, overconsumption of food, etc). i don't think this is any coincidence, at all. i think they are directly correlated.

a fair point, regarding humans and their impact on the environments that they directly affect: it's recently been said that there are more overweight human beings on the planet now, than there are people who are starving. take a second to think about what that might mean. that has all sorts of ominous implications in both the short and the long run, when you consider what's behind that, and what that'll effect. overweight people aren't known for their smaller, healthy caloric intake...

but anyway, i wouldn't need any media to tell me that things certainly feel like they're changing at an ever-increasing rate; i can pretty much see and feel that for myself. things are running parallel, with humans and the world. and i don't forsee people changing to fix that; especially with society's developing so-called "fat tolerance" behavior. of all the snowing nerve.

note: before anyone starts snowing at me about my fat intolerance, take a minute or 60 to think about what a mass of overweight people need/do in order to live/survive. don't even attempt to argue with me on that, because i will blow up on you. when i bring obesity into this, it's because everything humans do, has an impact on the planet they inhabit. masses of people who are overweight + overpopulation are really, really bad portends for the environment. and any environment will respond to that, and negatively so.

The Earth is in a dramatic warming trend. I think it takes a fair bit of myopia to imagine that human activity has nothing to do with it.

It is perfectly reasonable to have heated arguments about what we should do to address the problem. But when we can't even acknowledge that the problem exists ... it's shameful.

I think you're confused on the old saying. The saying for March is "in like a lion, out like a lamb". There's often a final snowstorm in the beginning of March and then by the end, flowers are blooming and bushes are budding.

I think one of the issues for people to realize there is a global warming is that we're talking about averages. So when some places gets extreme temperatures in the other region, they may think it's an example that disproves the rule.

averages can only really be applied globally, when talking about climate change. since i don't live around the world, i can only report from my own front, as well as any other layman can.

i think it's getting more difficult for the people who forecast weather, to accurately predict what's going to happen each day/week. and they have computers to rely on. we just have our senses, and we know what they're telling us. you put every one of our own civilian reports together via the internet, and you can paint a pretty vivid picture.

Pretty sure I've said it before but global warming doesn't necessarily mean warmer climate everywhere. Greenhouse effect (or the raising temperature overall) mean weather gets more extreme: cold parts get colder, hot parts get hotter, flooded areas get more flooded and dry areas get less rainfall.

That's a good point. I know you are correct about the people bit too. It's funny you mentioned it because after I posted, I said an example of it to my wife that went something like this; take a wide open space and say it is 75 and little wind. Plop down 100,000 people make them stand in a tight box, (like in cities) and drop a thermometer in the center of the square and then take the temp. We humans seriously heat rooms up when the room is full so there's no magic with a lot of 98.6.

Makes me think of "3-dog night" where trappers on very cold nights had some of their sled-dogs sleep with them. <L>

@ BB

Yeah, you got it right but what I should have said is the lion and lamb are playing king of the hill and changing places all the time.

Then we get to "April showers bring May flowers" which is nonsense today. Like Fred, we had rain all summer and yesterday it was as hot  as any day during the "the long wet summer."<S> Of course there has always been an Indian summer possible in Sept. but except for part of me...I didn't see any.<L>

Btw, I wonder what is going on with the "Atlantic Conveyor"? It's been years but I recall it was beginning to break-down because of the ice-melt.

I'm sure we'll be able to innovate ourselves through this. Less developed countries though, well, they're sort of screwed and we're going to need to need serious efforts to deter the situation in those countries or get a whole lot of climate refugees.

Yeah? I'm refering to technology that deals with the consequences of climate change. I don't think we're actually going to be able to stop climate change at this point. We will, again, through technology and innovation, but not untill it's to late for a whole lot of people.

Is that so? Did you perhaps forget that in order to discover and acquire such technology you need a good economy. Something which we currently don't have. So why not put these plans on a already melting ice?

I've already stated my opinion on this. The earth will become a toxic dump of a swamp within 500 years ; The rich people will live within a spaceship orbiting planet earth, with massive reserves of stem cells harvested from the healthiest babies, making them a new race of quasi immortal humans living over 300 years each; they may also have developed a new genetic to be immune to toxicity and radiation through genetic research.

Humans on planet earth will live in a huge, planet wide toxic dump. Many will die around 30 of age in average, and it will be a world similar to Fallout and X-Men merged together. Most will mutate in a bad way, and some will develop super powers. They will fight for survival, often ripping their shirts off and screaming "Pectoral blast!" as a beam of energy fires from both nipples to whoever was holding a 200 years old can of spaghettios.

What is fact and what is fiction is up to you to figure out!

There has been no increase in temperature for around 19 years.  Last year Sun activity began to decline and will likely continue to decline for several decades.  Rest easy the oceans are not about to boil dry.  The earth has always gone through natural warming and cooling cycles.  Unless we learn how to control the cycles of the Sun we can do little about it.

Expect the hiatus in warming to now be followed by several decades of cooling.

Data disagrees with you.

https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/201507

Excerpt from this month's NOAA global temperature report:

The first seven months of 2015 comprised the warmest such period on record across the world's land and ocean surfaces, at 0.85°C (1.53°F) above the 20th century average, surpassing the previous record set in 2010 by 0.09°C (0.16°F). Five months this year, including the past three, have been record warm for their respective months. January was the second warmest January on record and April third warmest.

The average global sea surface temperature of +0.67°C (+1.21°F) for the year-to-date was the highest for January–July in the 136-year period of record, surpassing the previous record of 2010 by 0.06°C (0.11°F). The average land surface temperature of +1.34°C (+2.41°F) was also the highest on record, surpassing the previous record of 2007 by 0.15°C (0.27°F).

Most of the world's land areas were much warmer than average, falling within the top 10 percent of their historical temperature range for the January–July period, as indicated by the Temperature Percentiles map above. These regions include nearly all of South America, Africa, Eurasia, and western North America, with pockets of record warmth across particularly notable across southern South America and parts of central Siberia. Overall, South America was record warm for January–July and Asia was second warmest.

The oceans were also much warmer than average across vast expanses, with much of the eastern and equatorial Pacific Ocean, the Barents Sea in the Arctic, and parts of the western North Atlantic and Indian Ocean record warm. In the North Atlantic, a large region south of Greenland was much cooler than average, with some record cold embedded in that area. Over land, only part of eastern Canada was much cooler than average during the January–July.

Imminent overpopulation fears are 1950s. Contra to antiquated 18th century Malthusian paranoia, it might precisely be those large quantities of babies being churned out by the barrel that save us, and indeed, have already saved us thus far, from miseries that would have far outweighed our current challenges. It would take something extraordinary for adding to the net brainpower of a planet to be conceived as a liability to its ability to fix problems. If our planet were an animal, and the people on it cells, then the planet is smarter now than ever before. And, with communication technology in particular being revolutionized, that brainpower can become greater than the sum of its parts.

In the mean time, there is a very real possibility of also catastrophically crippling ourselves. I hope we can mitigate global warming before its effects become too severe... but then again we already have taken many steps since (just picking a time reference) the early 1950s. Current power plants, among other things, destroy their predecessors in their efficiency and their carbon footprint.

@Corribus

You mean cooked books disagree with me. Under Obama all government agencies have been highly politicized.  And books have been cooked with so called adjustments made to temperatures that were actually recorded.

The great big ball of fire in the sky is primarily responsible for any warming or cooling cycles that do occur.

And it is certain that solar activity is declining.
