i would fire his ass too for prioritizing tourism and energy bills over snowing global warming. what an all-around dumbass. and a weatherman, no less.

i hope he's employed shoveling pig snow for the rest of his life to pay his bills.

French weatherman Verdier 'sacked' for writing skeptic climate change book ahead of UN summit

Thought this was interesting. I guess Philippe Verdier is a staple weatherman for France, so his absence is a big deal. It happened one month before the upcoming climate change summit taking place in Paris.

Eh, it's fact, the symantics of the issue or somewhat vague. It's kinda like smoking leads to cancer, they don't know how or why but the connections are there. Sure we don't know for a fact that humans are the prime cause of global warming, but our insane damage to the environment in the last 20 years (huge spike) has been paralleled by a stark increase in floods (main issue here), while other nations are battling an increase rate of hurricanes and other natural disasters.

If one wants to stick their head into the sand and ignore this then that's fine, totally, but don't let your ignorance hinder other people that are trying to save your ass and that of your children and their children.

Why do you always do this, Elodin? Not so many posts ago, it has already been linked  and also been mentioned by a scientist member of our own that the very high amount of credible data on global warming from scientists all over the world is beyond any reasonable doubt, real. Yet, you insist on calling it faith, when ironically, it is actually you who puts his decisive faith in some overwhelmingly unlikely conspiracy theories, and only because of your political polarization.

If somebody says some highly controversial thing without any proper (and in this case groundbreaking) evidence just to make sensation, an institution may very well decide to terminate its relationship with that person, a) because they think he lost trust of the people or b)because they simply decide that he's a charlatan. If a history professor says something like "slavery never existed in the New Continent," his university may indeed show him the door. This person is not going to jail for his words, he is not being silenced or censored either. If what he said had held any water, thousands of experts from all over the globe would have noticed. When someone from the news sector speaks so controversial and without any support, it's very natural he's putting his job at risk, since news sector is firstly about your credibility.

They're not mutually exclusive you know, afterall, God gave the world to Adam to labour on, all manner of natural disasters are the consequence of misuse, basic cause and effect, whe had no idea wtf we were doing to our planet for so long, now we do we're still far from doing enough to rectify our mistakes. I could hear the frustration during a lecture with people from the the EU institution dedicated to climate change (can't remember the name sorry), they were so dumbfounded as to why nobody gives a damn, we have to restructure are entire means of energy acquisition and nobody seems to give a damn.

Even if green energy was far more efficient states would be hesitant to transfer to it, as it stands there is the issue that green energy, solar panels in particular are a farce (they barely produce anything).

Except that in this case is not that thing. This guy wrote a book in his private area, didn't come on TV during his weather job to claim his opinions. Then he never said "global warming doesn't exist", he just formulated doubts and showed evidence about politicians + other lobbies pushing the global warming concept to nurture their interests.

It's completely possible (and maybe even likely) for both climate change to be correct, along with the claims that there is a lot of politicizing within climatology, since it is an area that has both a lot of money and a lot of emotion attached to it, so it would take a desperate optimist not to find its objectivity worth at least some suspicion.

You can have holes and logical gaps and lies here and there while the "big picture" is still overall correct. That's the norm of life, really. That might not be satisfactory for the human polemics, but nothing ever is for them.

I'd be interested in reading this guy's book to see what he has to say, but I'm so busy these days and I doubt I'm going to get around to it.

Either way, I am quite disappointed in whoever was responsible for this. Writing a private book shouldn't lead to firing a national face. That is kind of Vichy and worrisome.

it's been in the 70's, with humidity making it feel like 80's, all week. in december. on christmas. broke temperature records for this area ALL WEEK, EVERY DAY.

the weathermen/ladies act like this is a good thing, too. "uncommonly warm but great weather, blah blah blah".

am i the only one really worried about this? that it's never been like this as long as i've lived? am i the only one thinking we only have until this summer, before the snow really hits the fan? am i the only one thinking that some drastic natural occurence is coming quite soon, to wipe humans off the world like fleas off a dog?

my feelings have only been solidifying. i'm sensing a real end for us, and very soon. standing outside, and listening to the wind; i'm picking up some pretty snowing awful vibrations. where i usually feel something from nature when standing out in it, now all i am feeling is a silence. dead snowing silence.

all of my senses are telling me we don't have even a year left. or maybe it's just me.

Spot on BB. At the beginning of WWII a chap with no political experience ran and was elected by his running on the 'Fall of Tubruch'
and 'We need a change in Leadership' message. I'm sure they teach political-tactics in "I wanna be somebody important school'.

@ Fred,

No you are not alone. I feel something is abnormal too. We've had no snow yet. The thing that grabs my attention is that there seems little mild weather between seasons. Either it is blazing sun or drenching rain and snow has nearly disappeared. We've had lately strong gusts or no wind. For a couple of days now, we've had spells of silence and then branch-bending gusts come through; this has been going on for three days now, like the weather cannot decide what it wants to do. Note; in the Midwest this is common in Spring and early Summer, meaning the strong gusts as fronts collide; tornadoes are born of this action but what is weird about it now, is that this is December and the atmosphere has not settled down yet.

There are cats mating in the back yard in December, and flowers are growing. On the east coast right now anyway (My house is covered in snow).  There might even be flood warnings if they keep having rain.

And yes, I mean "snow" as in the white powdery frozen water. Not brown human waste.
