I only just realized it is not possible any more to learn spells without at least a novice magic skill. If they want to keep the arcane knowledge, I'd say the AC requirements need to be decreased by 1.

Another point to consider it's the number of spells - in H5 it was low, really low, so low that I firmly believe it didn't showed the flaws of them being so specialised. If you were to increase the number of spells from 12 to 16-18, can you really imagine having 18 different DD spells in Destructive? Because I don't.

Yes.

There are some nice ideas there, but in the end they overlap quite a lot. I still think a few non-DD spells would do wonders to Destructive

I would prefer the H4 magic system too.

Magic skills allow you to learn magic spells : Life, Death, Order, Chaos, Nature. (with 4 level, unskilled, novice, expert, master - 5 skills satisfying myself).

Then you can add abilities to increase the kind of spell :

- Alteration (Curse and Bless)

- Creation (Summoning and conjuration)

- Evocation (Direct Damage)

- Enchantment (Mind)

- Universal - only spells without ability - their power scale depending of hero level.

Adding points to Enchantment sphere will, for example, increase, confusion (chaos), Frenzy (chaos) and face of fear (Death).

Adding points to Alteration sphere  will, for example, increase  bless (Life), Precision (Order) and weakness (Death).

H4 did well, they only forgot a mind sphere and an universal sphere.

H4 always had the best magic system in the series IMO, followed by h5. They felt the most specialized/specific to me. I never really liked the elemental divide for schools. Currently the worst system is in h6 followed by h7(though h6 did have better spells as h7 is currently missing many iconic/classic/funniest spells). I really hope devs will revert the magic system back to how it was at first in h7 and get rid of this arcane-point nonsense. Or at the very least lower the level 4 spells point requirement to 6 which is what you get for mastering a school. The arcane -system is such a dead idea in a game where you need to master school, get wisdom and boost specific spells via abilities to make them better and different from other similar spells. You will never pick fire-bolt over lightning or ice-bolt for example if you "specialize" in them via skills. Only faction that can use any other schools to any decent degree is academy with racial, but even that still lacks the abilities/spell-power so ultimately it would give you maybe handful of spells that you might in some very unlikely situation use. Unfortunately the arcane system is simply done with such bad design to an already badly designed skill-system

Yay, with improvements and balancing. If there have to be 7 schools then put more spells. If some factions can't learn skill in some schools, put spells that bless, curse, damage, and summon for enough of the schools to make it fair for every faction. In H5, orcs couldn't learn spells but they had decent warcries as alternative. But dwarves with runes plus all 4 magic schools available was overpowered.

AK sounds good if it's implemented correctly. I predict this will not be what we get in vanila game. It's going to be  H5 situation no doubt.

The problem with H5 was you pick light or dark alone, you get no damaging spells that kill a handful of units. But if you picked Destructive with most factions, their low-moderate sp made the damage from destructive spells useless. Wind/Fire/Ice/Lightning schools with mixture of blesses, curses, and DD give better balance, especially with the skill pizza system.
