Rakshasa's Mind-Spinnings

I'm going to slowly create my own HOMM-like world in this topic, it will be a HOMM game that isn't in Ashan or Erathia, but in a new world, but some heroes and creatures stay in the game, as will most of the best games elements and gameplay, just add some new stuff like Non-Playable Mini-Factions, landscape based hazards on battlefields, female/male troops and more.

I'm not going to waste time on stuff like banners, income, town buildings, growth and all that stuff as this is fan-art, not a tryout to get this to be real, I just enjoy creating these creature line-ups, the other stuff isn't my thing, I’m very bad in balancing stuff anyway, and I NEVER (sorry to crush your hearts) read those stuff from other proposals anyway, only read the creature line-ups and abilities and stories, which interest me the most when I read proposals, the magic is cool too, maybe some heroes.

Let’s start with Female/Male thing I made up. When you split armies and when you have two groups of the same creatures, it could be fun to turn the second group into a female visual instead of the same group of males/females.
So if you have two groups of Archers for example, the usual group is male, but if you possess two separate groups of archers the second group will have a female visual, this makes stuff more fun, gives more eye candy, and some units like Fauns and Succubi will have special abilities involving the genders. Note that not all creatures have female/male possibilities, like most beasts, constructs and elementals don't have such differences. Some beasts that have counterparts in the real world do have female/male visuals, but those are mostly for fun. And some creatures will have different abilities even, like the Succubus second group will become Incubi, so their male-seducing ability will affect females instead. Others creatures could have differences too, like when you have two stacks of Golems, the second golem will be made from crystal or gemstone instead of just from stone.

There is much more to add but for now I’m going to skip all the way to the factions.

Each environment will have its own faction, and some environments have their own mini-faction too.

Note that some factions are Expansions, as 10 factions for a starter game is a bit much, and every creature will have two upgrades much like HOMM5 expansion.

Non-Playable Mini-Factions are neutral and can’t be played with, sometimes if you beat a faction you can hire their troops, in multiplayer to keep things balanced there will be an option to disable mini-factions.

The Playable Factions have the following line-ups.

Core - 4
Elite - 4
Champion - 3
Ultimate – 1

While the NP Mini-Factions have:

Core - 3
Elite - 3
Champion – 2

Now for the towns, which I’m far from finished with, as this is a huge work in progress.

I place all the options I have at the moment for creatures behind the faction, I will choose and create the line-ups later, I just wanted to make as start for now.
Undead aren’t only linked to Necropolis, I hated that, like all undead are mindless and can only work together. While mostly evil the undead appear in multiple factions and the most basic undead and Necromancers are found in the mini-town of Necropolis.
Each environment also has Neutrals of course, which aren’t with any faction or mini-faction.

DESERT

Playable Faction: Academy (Wizard, Rakshasa, Sphinx, Golems, Gargoyle, Colossus, Illusionists, Sand Monsters, Djinn, Naga, Animated Objects such as Scimitars, Gremlins
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Camp (Nomads and their tamed desert beasts, they are mostly bandits, and non-friendly.)

BEACH/SEA

Playable Faction: Sanctuary (Mermen, Kappa, Shellycoat, Asian Dragons (no Kirin though), Sirens and all types of other water creatures.)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Cove (Draugr are evil undead pirates in this world, they tamed all types of evil sea creatures such as Krakens and Adaro.)

GRASSLANDS/HILLS

Playable Faction: Haven (Humans, Angels, Angelic creatures, Valkyrie, Griffons, Paladins, Zealots, Silver Dragon, Archer, Witch/Monster Hunters, Archon)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Farm: Peasants, Scarecrows, Ankhegs, Dogs and all manner of weak creatures revolving around the farmlands.)

FROST MOUNTAINS

Playable Faction: Fortress (Dwarves, Yeti’s, Jotunn, Bears, Salamanders and other type of creatures that revolve around heat and ice)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Glacier or Tundra or Aurora (I'm thinking about some form of Barbegazi (frost gnomes) frost town, the truly ice town of this game with the most horrid of snow and ice creatures such as Yuki-Onna and Yeti's)

UNDERGROUND

Playable Faction: Dungeon (Troglodytes, Minotaurs, Gorgons (Medusa), Argus/Stalker, Centipedes, Nidhogg, and many creatures revolving around caves.)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Guild (Svartalfar and their Assassin allies, all things Shadow and darkness, the Vampires are also here with bats)

WASTELAND

Playable Faction: Stronghold (Berserkers or Orcs, or both. Behemoth (very different), Dinosaur like creatures, Rocs/Thunderbirds, Scorpions, Girtabililu, Harpies and Cyclops)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Inferno (Abyssal demons that live in the most hostile parts of the Wastelands, with Succubi, Imps, Pit Fiends, Cerberi, Abyss Worms, Breeders and some others.

JUNGLE/SWAMP

Playable Faction:  Playable Faction: Bastion (With Lizardmen, Reptiles, Hydra, Catoblepas, Dragonfly, Basilisk and all manner of vile swamp monsters.)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction: Temple (All type of Aztec based  creatures, with Quetzalcouatl, Jaguarmen (Nagual), big cats, Ahuizotl and other jungle like horrors and aztec constructs)

FOREST

Playable Faction: Sylvan (The pretty elven forest, with Elves, Cu Sith, Druids, Treants, Unicorns and all such creatures of beauty, while most of the second-upgrades of the creatures have connections with the Gloom Town, like Unicorns upgrade into Alicorns (flying unicorns) OR into Ecalypse, which are black Unicorns with links to the Gloom Forest.)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction:  The Hive (The hostile insect town, with all manner of insect horrors and as main race the bee-like Thriae or Ant-Like Formians. Also has Mantis and beetle creatures.)

DARK FOREST

Playable Faction: Gloom (The dark mirror of the Sylvan Forests are the horrible Dark Forests, with Nightmares, Werewolves, Fungus, Spiders, Arachne, Dullahan or Dark Knights, maybe Bats, Vampires, Goblins & Redcaps, Moths)
Non-Playable Mini-Faction:  Circus of Evil (Jesters, Trained Beasts, Freaks and other such creatures.)

Other Mini-Faction that doesn't have any link with environment and can appear anywhere:

Necropolis (The most basic undead town, with Skeletons, Necromancers and the sort)

overall you have some nice lineups here(which I did expect, since I know you are a fan of mythical creatures and I really think that the heroes games should focus on them a bit more)

I really like the idea of basically having a sub-faction for every terrain, although I'd say that it would be kind of a waste to make them non-playable,especially since they have already as many creatures as the current hvii lineups.

Though I think some creatures could be a bit more unique(or less like simple animals). For example you have draugr fighter and caster, but what if you had the tracker(with crossbows) and a summoner instead of them(they could be still draugrs, but would be a bit more outstanding on their own)

Thanks for the kind words!

The creatures from the Sub-Factions can be hired or bought, but you can't play as the town, maybe in some expansion, but if all those towns become playable it would be too much.

But still you can end up with the entire line-up of the Cove or Farm, but still play as Sylvan for example, you just bought/won-over all such creatures.

The simple animals (I see mostly only bear and spider) are up for a change, I will probably use some cool myth spider like Djieien or some cool Trapdoor variant or a magical Black Widow, but I didn't knew which one yet, so I just put Spider there so I know to make up some spider monster in the future.

The Grizzly bear will upgrade into a Spirit-type Bear monster and an armored intelligent bear creature, so they also become more special in the end, hate generic animals like wolves in fantasy games so the Grizzly bear (and maybe the non upgraded lion) are the only exceptions.

I agree on the Draugr Summoner, that is an awesome idea and suits the creature, it could be a Draugr that summons other sea creatures or mist, but with caster I meant more like I will change it in the future, but it must be something with magic, Draugr Caster isn't the final name, same with most other race-based creatures like Dwarf Shield, which isn't the final name, just a hint for myself I need some Dwarf with shield abilities there, i'm not sure on the names yet as this is pretty far from finished. The other Draugr will probably end up as undead Viking or Pirate.

Mostly skimmed through it at this point, but I kinda like what I've read so far. plenty of factions, cool creatures in fitting places (depending on the source/description I'd probably put Nidhögg in Necro).

I find your gender idea really cool, though I wouldn't go as far as that impacting game play.

Will read through more later but I like what I see.

Thanks mate!

I use this for a Nidhogg, they are underground LIVING, wingless dragons covered in roots that feed on corpses and ygdrassil roots in the myth, but not in my proposal, there they are strictly carnivorous and burrowing dragons, perfectly suited for underground town life.

and

I just wanted to get rid of the Black D&D Dragon and give the Dragon Whiners something more awesome in return so they don't feel the sting of their missing child, which is at the GUild though, but much cooler, less D&D like, more like a non-purple shadow dragon.

The gender thing is mostly visual, the only two creatures that work with gender are Satyr and Succubus, the succubus when split becomes another creature (Incubus) this is much like any other special ability, it also makes the female/male system a little bit more special.

I'd be going for the "post-ragnarök" christian version being described as having corpses for wings and generally the symbolism of evil/death.

In the opening post you had Nagas with academy but they are with Sanctuary in the lineup-post.

Academy: Animated scimitars sound fun. Not a huge fan after H7 introduced the Cabir (they do seem out of place) but I can let that slip. Otherwise not much to say. Follows the general Academy post-H3 blueprint with little changes. Hope to see some special abilities, especially for the Sphinx.

Sanctuary: Not familiar with most of the creatures and internet is too slow ATM to find out. Seems like mostly just your average sea-themed creatures. Nothing too surprising but the theme might be a bit too heavy on ocean. Feels a bit stale. Do like the Asian dragon rather than a Kirin. Might look really cool in-game.

Haven: More beastial than usual (stark contrast to mine, almost only having humans). Not a fan. I like my haven to be almost completely human, as a POV faction for the player of sorts. Still, cool seeing the paladin in Champion tier. Say, what is the Simurgh like? Had one in the "create a faction" contest which was more dog-looking. I think that could work very well with Haven.

Fortress: Too many dwarves. Champs feel kinda boring too me. I think dwarves could do better with, say, a giant/jötunn or similar.

Dungeon: I like this one. While I prefer a old-school dragon (mostly due to tradition, granted) I can't say I dislike this one. It works very well for an underground town. YOu thought what I thought regarding The Gorgon and that the petrification is clearly too strong too be a mere ELite. While she still is an elite for me, she is the strongest one. Can't really take Ooze seriously. Really like it.

Stronghold: Valkyrie should replace Cyclops as Champ. Otherwise awesome. I take it the Deinonychus rider is a goblin(or at the least not human) as the Deinonychus is a tad too small to really ride...

Bastion: I like it. Not much to add, really.

Sylvan: Cool. Kinda conservative. not much new aside from the barometz (which I don't quite agree with) but i like it. Never was a fan of satyrs though.

Gloom: So many factions... I like the idea of this new faction. I like the execution too.

I like these lineups in general. Good job.

I've changed a lot of things from the opening post, forgot to change it there to, being bad-mannered has its flaws you know, I can update only in some minutes.

Adaro = Mythological sharkmen

Abaia = giant eel monsters with powers over storms, very protective of weaker creatures, are seen as the mothers of all lake/water monsters.

Shellycoat = Hermit like bogeymen dressed in sharp shells it uses as weapons, can cast magic and steal voices (cast silence)

Mishibhizhiw is awesome water panther creature.

These aren't all about ocean though, they are about water.

I really, really hate humans, and especially in games. So human Haven is something I want to destroy. Even the humans in this town are actually Nephalim which are god-like humans. Peasants are the humans.

Simurgh in my version is likely to change, but they are like the Caladrius, healing bird creatures.

I don't like Jotun or frost giants, Cherufe is one of my favorite myth monsters, its a freaking lava beast from volcanoes, juggernaut can change, but likely not. There aren't that much dwarves, I don't even like dwarves!

Ooze is something I really miss in HOMM games, they are fun and have bizarre abilities.

These are bigger raptors the size of ostriches.

You gonna love my Satyr's, they are very magical and awesome, much like in Pann's Labyrinth. Barometz is awesome if you see it in action, its more like plant ram, not a plant lamb.

Thanks for you support.

Overall I really like what I see here, any updates planned? Pics and abilities would be nice.

I'm really too chaotic to create any lasting project of my own, everything I work on will be replaced by some new project.

And i'm working on my own project called Mythika so little time for other projects, maybe in the future (if i'm not banned by then) I will continue with HOMM projects, the HOMM7 game didn't really raised my enthusiasm to work on this. Too bad :-( (really hated the game)

But thanks anyway!
