Map Editor is even worse than H6

They have just thrown dust in our eyes all this time.

First impressions the editor is that it is purely crap. The only thing that is better than h6`s one besides UI is the thing Marzhin showed us in the editor - to copy an artifact/creature and change stats and that`s it. The game looks like a disaster right now..

Script editor is very poor containing literally no viable actions

you can`t modify experience gained

you can`t give random artifact/random resource to hero (HUGE)

you can`t build dwellings in town (nod to Elvin)

there are no random numbers

All in all it seems you can change only existing dwellings(moneym rewards, guards) but not add anything new. In heroes 6 I added tons of adv. map objects, now it may be impossible.

But is there a script editor? If so how is the documentation? You "could" theoretically do these things with that...

If there is no such thing I won't touch the game even with a 5 meter pole.

I think it's too early to asses the situation as things just generally don't tend to work, so the functions might still be there.

Those things I told you about are missing in the script editor. There are no viable actions you can do...no random major artifact ..etc

people bashed h6 editor for being not user friendly and I am good at it so I know where to look at. I fiddled for 1 hour though ..but first impressions are disastrous.

No offense, but you don't judge a tool just by using it for 1 hour. At least try making some maps with it first

Having used both H6 and H7 editors extensively, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that H7 is far superior in every aspect. H7 also offers a RMG (although not perfect yet) and a campaign editor, which H6 never had.

Have you tried the Unreal mode (the button on the far right)? Most of the advanced functions (to import models, edit the buildings extensively, and so on) are done there. You can actually edit a lot of things there (I certainly do )
All you have to do is copy the existing game archetype in your map's package through the Content Browser. Then you can edit that version and change its values, models, FX, size, sounds, whatever you fancy.

Don't forget that the default editor is the "simple" tool to make basic Heroes maps with the game's default content. If you want to create brand new content and "complex" situations, try the Unreal mode. We made these two modes because we know there are different kinfs of mapmakers: some will just want to make a nice Heroes map with or without a simple story, while others will want to do a lot of modding.

That being said, you are right that the Script Tool currently lacks some key functions. As far as I can tell, it's possible to do most of these things using Kismet (Unreal's visual scripting engine), but I hope we can add the missing functions to the default Script Tool as well very soon.

Do you have an error message? If this is the issue I'm thinking about (something about a .config file missing) this should now be fixed when you start it again.

so let's talk accessibility, do you think it going to take weeks or months to make a simple map with this thing like Heroes 6, or can even a complete imbecile throw together a good map in mere days like Heroes 3 lol

also how convoluted is the editor, is it straightforward like the older games or super convoluted like Heroes 6 lol

With the default editor you can make a map in a couple of hours. It might not be the most beautiful map ever, not the first time anyway , but it's much, much easier than it was in H6, that's for sure.

Normally it should download the missing file when you try to launch the game or the editor. Tell me in case it still doesn't work.

Marzhin, do you have experience with H5's script editor? If so, how would you compare it to H7?

I haven't yet powered up the Map Editor so I haven't seen what the script editor can do yet, but I've always considered the script editor of H5 to be very powerful, allowing map builders to pull off some crazy stuff.

I know where the so called Expert Mode is.. I will give you 3 tasks to complete and share here how they will be done. If they are not possible then this editor is worse than h6. I need 1 hour to judge don`t worry. You can edit options but not add new ones.

1) At the start of game give hero random minor artifact(easy version)

At the start of game a dialog appears and hero chooses between - gold, resource or random minor artifact (very hard version)

2) Make a visitable shell gives reward based on chance
5 % give random major artifact
10 % give random minor artifact
85% give nothing

3) Reduce experience gained by heroes globally.

4) when you flag champion creature dwelling a dialog appears and player chooses which champion the dwelling will spawn each week

Yes. In the case mines behave the old fashioned way.
