Town building trees

Let's see some discussion about town-building and the like as well as some screens of the building trees for each faction!

I will just copy paste from other thread my opinion on stronger elites.

Most of TOH maps you could build tier 6 creature day 7 week 1 = stronger elite in heroes VII. Now let`s solve this problem backwards:

12 level is the prerequisite for all stronger elites

that means towns have to start on level 6

town hall, hall of heroes, core 1 are no-brainers. Other 2 can be core 1 upgraded and core 2 basic. Last one should be magic guild level 1. There is no other solution - city hall, upgraded core 2 , blacksmith, stronger core, marketplace are all buildings I wouldn`t like prebuilt.

In heroes 5 we had fort and magic guild and the last building gave variation - either 2 basic cores or core 1 upgraded while now mapmakers are kind of stuck with the build above if they want the option with the stronger elites. This means we definitely need that option of choosing specialization of prebuilt magic guild.

Now we have 0 variety for towns in multiplayer maps with stronger elite possible 1st week and that is if they change the guild thing.

There isn't really need to post a town building picture for each faction, since they have pretty much every building in the exact same spot!

I think they made factions and building plans in the same way they tried to make the game.

-Make faction 1
-take the best ideas from faction 1 to make faction 2
-take the best ideas from faction 1 & 2 to make faction 3
-take the best ideas from factions 1,2, & 3 to make faction 4

I think the build-trees could be great without the snowing level-restrictions and replace it with a few more pre-requisites. As long as you have the specific buildings necessary for, say, Behemoths you should be able to build behemoths, week 1 or 11 no matter how many other buildings you have. This level bullsnow adds absolutely nothing to the game. It only serves to stop potential depth from emerging.

The only thing town levels are useful for are when you demolish things. It dismantles all the buildings of that row.

Then again why would you want to demolish a whole row of buildings instead of the one you want? Just saying..

Building level 7 creatures week 1 renders other units nearly obsolete. There definitely needs to be a town level system, it shouldn't be this strict though. I like the gradual progression from weaker units to stronger ones.

No there isn't. It was possible in H3 stronghold and fortress and there was nothing wrong with that. Because the lineup stats and building prerequisites had been designed with that in mind.

And now everyone is more or less the same. Boring and uninspired.

@Minion
Hence the pre-requisites. different towns should work differently with this too. Some towns should demand all or most of the other dwellings while some factions should only need about 2, maybe three. Again, the town-levels adds NOTHING too the game. It only serves too remove potential build paths and forces players to abandon strategies that are simply impossible.

That said, I like what they've done with the fortifications

The guard mechanic and keeping towers/moat separate from walls. Means sieges won't always be the same and adds variety to factions. Would like to see some choices here changed/removed since choosing between being able to build pyramids or having two for defense makes no sense.

Agreed, Heroes 3 Stronghold Behemoth rush was something that really made this faction special, and it was not imbalanced because basic Behemoths weren't that great, plus the faction had other handicaps, like no level 4 or 5 mage guild.

Now every faction is more or less identical. Even the snowing Swordsmaster has 400+ HP, I mean, seriously? There was that one absolutely obvious chance to make a creature very different from the rest, but no.

I do like the rethinking of fortifications, however, that's one of the few areas where they add a bit of fresh air and puts some additional content to what was already there in the old games without taking anything out.

100% agree with above post.

town levels just take away so much potential for variety. It takes away the desire to play all the factions, only pick 2 or 3 I like the most and not even bother with the rest. Literally none of them feel special or unique in anyway.

That's not necessarily true.

It only is guaranteed to allow technically more build paths, although it is very possible that it would just reduce the variety of viable build paths.  I'm still finding myself adjusting build paths to what my opponent is playing with the town level system.
