Perhaps without the green, but keeping the red? A bit of contrast with the rest of the lineup is nice, but I think the green is a tad too much.

I for one welcome the change
The previous snake was too similar to the Roc or the Behemoth. The green feathers make him pop out more and fit the name of the "winged serpent" better.

i like how the coloring is more subtle in this one:

, but i agree with maurice on the green(it looks out of place), if you guys are moving in favor of more color. the red(from the more colorful new version) should at least be toned down, though. especially on the headdress(i forget what it's called) of the upgrade. the upgrade pictured above was perfect in that regard. my 3rd cent on it.

I personnaly like the green on there. Its not "not according" with goblins, orks or ogres ?
I find this creature absolutely magnificent ! Very nice work ! But with no "more colours" I find it very beautiful too. You may distribute both and let players choose the one they prefer ?

no, just that the green's more fortress-faction colored(yellowish green, instead of darker green).

I like this version more as well, the colors are more natural and faded to fit in with the stronghold color palette. The snake looks amazing by the way.

Does it replace cyclops? Where did he go then?

You've really nailed their art style, it's quite impressive and fits into the game very nicely.

One objective here is to make alternative creatures. This may increase strategy ; some choices can be done according to situation ; you can choose to build one or other of (here) level 6 creature. The problem in my eyes is : if you find some other town of your race ; if  someone made cyclops and if you choose this serpent, you cannot stack them... And you can't even have all these creature in your army because there is only 7 slots of creature and here if some towns have one and other have the second option, you'll need 8 slots to get them... Out of this, its very intresting and this creature is really splendid !

You have actually addressed interesting question here. Other thing is that for example if you are playing map with 3rd dwelling built it will be always default one. We will see what can be done about it in a future. If mod gets popular I am sure we will have even more support from VCMI team than there is already, as we are already cooperating

This is an interesting issue indeed. It was resolved in possibly best way in Heroes 7 - where you could just demolish the alternative Champion dwelling in controlled town and build another one if it suited you. But as Nephretes has already said, where's the will, there's a way. I'm certain that VCMI devs will cook up an equally clever solution. For example, when you capture a city with an alternative dwelling in place, you get to rebuild it once.

Some other possibility may be "you can change the building" if there is alternative ? It may be some option like this...
For creature, maybe it shall exist a "command" secondary skill who increase the number of stack of creature ? It shall be fun to have some other secondary skill and to be able to have more than 7 slots of creature... More slots means more strategy to play with them ?
Just some idea like that if it may be of use. If not, no matter, I continue to "dream".

in wog/era you can demolish everything, then build it back up(even change the castle once everything is demolished). that'd be a good feature to implement into vcmi; and would take care of any issues like that. of course, i'm not a programmer, so i don't know how difficult that might be.

Yeah I'm a dummy, I read the whole thread because I wanted to see more of the creatures.
I really like the idea of alternate creatures, and on top of that you're keeping it as close to vanilla as possible. This will be a download for sure for me.

On the "problem" of another town having cyclops so you can't fit all 8.. I don't think this is really a problem to address. It's just a part of the choices and consequences of the alternate unit being there. It's already a choice you have to make in normal gameplay. Like when I capture a dungeon town when I'm playing a different town, I'll drop one of my original 7 units to make room for more shooters if I need them and Black Dragons.

Oh yes, we have not talked much about neutral units which will be making an appearance in the first mod release.

Some of you might know, that at the early stage of game development there was a mysterious creature with a code name "Banshee". There are not many details regarding the purpose, properties or sole reason why it has been dropped in the final release. All what is left is a screenshot of pre-released battle screen.

Feeling nostalgic yet? That's about time "Banshee" will get reintroduced via MDT interpretation in form of "Demilish". And don't you worry, we made sure it is unique one and really dangerous undead for the daredevils who will try to fight it

======

Another neutral unit which was already released in a form of mini-mod was mermaid which will be also included in the release. Stay tuned for the some concepts might get renewed in unexpected way
