I definitely agree here. Ubisoft especially deserve no trust as they got fooled by the people responsible for h6 to stay in charge for h7.

I blame Ubisoft for buying and having control of the IP to butcher and ruin beyond redemption. HoMM was a fantastic trilogy that ended at 3.

Ubi is very likely responsible for a development schedule which didn't allow for quality control, after the core game had been finished.  For instance, how can AI development proceed (the 'I' part) before game mechanics is final?  Remember that Q coded his AI for a finished game.  Likewise engine optimization.  Presently, it's the customers that do the beta testing, and Limbic is doing emergency debugging. All of that should have preceded publication, probably with a long-running closed beta phase.

One might put the blame on Limbic, but since this is regularly happening with Ubi titles, it rather appears as deliberate policy imposed by the publisher.  Remember that the similar problems (AI in particular) had happened to H4, when 3DO was desperate.

Imagine a release free of major bugs, smooth engine, competent AI.  Fans could (and would) complain about gameplay and balancing, but the team could fully concentrate on improving those elements, possibly preparing for major changes in an expansion.

I blame ubisoft, they are the ones that had control to give a well known and established series to incompetent developers. Just imagine how much better HOMM could have been if ubisoft was not the one to buy the IP.

I bought H6. Haven't bought H7 and it's not looking like I'm going to based on the reviews.

Ubisoft has the talent & money it needs to produce a good Heroes game, but the franchise isn't being treated with much respect.


My opinion? Blend a little bit of an RPG with the game, so that your campaign Hero can, for example, move around in a specific town or at a specific "home base" and have some dialogue with characters. The engine for it wouldn't need to be complicated since it wouldn't involve combat. This would help engage younger fans that maybe aren't adapted to the impersonal style of TBS, and frankly, I'd find it enjoyable too.

Then, as far as the TBS gameplay itself, rip off of H5 or H3 and put it in HD. You could theoretically come up with a good, unique mechanic that diverges from previous games, but so far they've already struck out twice in a row. I'd be content with a lack of mechanical originality as long as the game is solid and - I think the biggest problem among the many weaknesses of H6 - it has enduring replayability.

Oh, and it goes without saying: just give up on Ashan already. Just do it. The horse is crippled and diseased. Have mercy and shoot the poor girl. Put us back in the Star Trek universe like the older games.

The only thing this game doesn't need more of is RPG. We are already seriously lacking in the strategic department with no signs of improvement on the horizon. Instead of having a true tabletop tactical feel to our adventures, we're thrown into a standard role playing progression which this game is simply not made for. Campaigns? Useless on the long run and subtracting a lot from the potential that could otherwise be achieved by investing money where it matters. Having so much focus on this convoluted plot about Ashan and "something happening in the Holy Empire again" as the campaign story line is just an utter loss. How did AoW3 went about it? Two simple campaigns for tutorial purposes and everything else put into gameplay and replay value. Guess which game has more success and better ratings.

Who to blame you ask?
The players of course. They keep on buying this crap no matter how terrible it is and give Ubi the incentive to make a more crappy heroes.

The Lord of the Reboots

Jon Van Caneghem (English, pronounced jay vee cee) was the CEO of New World Computing, husband of Debbie Van Caneghem, peer of the Dark CEO Yves (Guillemot), and Creator of Might and Magic. The design, AI and graphics were his servants. He was the greatest of the Ancients in authority, but not in power. The Lord of the Breath of Might and Magic, he was appointed as its Boss, hence his most common title, Sir Caneghem.

In the thought of the Market JVC was the peer of Yves, but dearest to the Market and the one that best understood the will of Paying Customers. When Yves created the discord in the second Ponzi Scheme of the Publishers, JVC took over disrupting the scheme, pondering about proconsumerism and delivering value for money.

JVC along with Greg Fulton and Gus Smedstad were the chief architects of Enroth and Axeoth and when they were formed, he denied to surrender them to Yves, and many great designers, like Katauri, came to his side from the deeps of the Industry.

But he did not understand evil, even in the form of his own peer. He bargained with Hawkins from Redwood City, thus allowing him to cause the distrust of 3DO, the Poisoning of the Two Worlds, the murder of Heroes 5, the theft of the Classic Games, and the revolt of the Fans.

To hearten the ToHers, he had Russia fashion WoG and HotA, for he knew the rising of Casuals was coming soon, and sent Valreiy and the Moderators to watch them.

After Guillemot's fall, JVC cast him into the Job Centre. In the Final Bankruptcy, when Yves escapes, it is said that Sir Caneghem and the Dark CEO will battle on the Plane of Tony Stark, but that they will not slay each other.



Guillemot (English, pron. gilly-mot), also known as Yves, was the greatest of the Publishers. He fell from glory when he plotted the Ponzi Scheme of the Publishers and signed off on the will of Bobby Kotick. Guillemot corrupted many of the Publishers to his allegiance, fought the Game Designers, and corrupted Might and Magic. His theft of the Classic Games and wars against Fans and Casuals encompassed much of the history of the Chaos Cycle. Eventually, Guillemot was bound in chains by Quality Control and thrown into the Job Centre, leaving the permanent damage his evils had done, and his servant Erwin, to trouble the world.

One day, according to prophecy, Guillemot will rise again in great wrath, but he will be destroyed in the Dagor Dagoth Gares.

It was propagandised of Guillemot that "his might and magic was greatest of all things in this world". He was the most powerful being in existence, second only to Obama, and perhaps more powerful than every Executive put together. Fitting to his name, Guillemot eventually built a company great and terrible, and soon was unable to leave it. He endured many scandals and gaffes over the ages: his ego was burned forever when he touched the Classic Games, Pitsu embarrassed him seven times during their debate as well as a wound to the posterior that caused him ever after to offer limp excuses, Cepheus scarred his face with his talons.

Physically, Guillemot was described as highly imposing, and was reckoned to a tower compared to the warrior Doomforge, and the shadow of the shield he wielded was like a stormcloud. Ever since his promotion, Guillemot held a desire for power; above all else, however, Guillemot held deep hatred of the mere existence of intelligent or beautiful game design. Unlike his servant Erwin, Guillemot's ultimate goal was solely the destruction, not control, of all that he despised. He was nonetheless persuasive, and could sway and corrupt many forms of life to become his willing servants.

Guillemot wielded Assassin's Creed in battle, a franchise he presumably forged himself in Montreuil (unless Erwin or Patrice had held it safe after the Buyout of 3DO), and was clad in SecuROM DRM armor, with a crown of bad PR. Despite his strength initially, he continually spread his residual influence, corruption, and ***** thin across Might and Magic after his treachery and suffered several defeats, and his power slowly, though significantly, weakened. He alone of the Executives had a deep fear of Vivendi, and even against inferior foes he held a hesitance to ever risk his own cash.

Guillemot's will was suffused into the matter of Might and Magic, so in a sense he is never truly gone. Might and Magic was marred by him so deeply that only JVC or Doc Brown could fully repair the damage. Those who wished to follow in Guillemot's footsteps, such as Erwin, found that by using his residual influence, they could easily corrupt enthusiasts they wished to dominate.



Trip Hawkins was an evil spirit in a form that greatly resembled a massive Shill who dwelt in California prior to the Chaos Cycle.

Hawkins's origins are shrouded in mystery. It is thought that he may have been one of the Young Entreupeneurs of the Year, or a lesser bureaucrat, whom Yves corrupted long ago, but he is not listed among the Ubislaves. It is also said that he came from the darkness above the skies of Might and Magic, leading some to believe that he may be an incarnation of darkness or emptiness itself. What is known is that during the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy he had disowned Yves and lived independently in Redwood City.

After Yves sowed discord among the Industry Standards and fled Electronic Arts, he sought Hawkins's aid in his attack on the Two Worlds of the Original Continuity. He helped Yves infiltrate the Original Continuity by shrouding both himself and his ally in websites of pure darkness. Once within the Original Continuity, Hawkins drank the quality from the Two Worlds after Yves wounded them with his hostile takeover. He also drained dry 3DO's Wells of Cash so that nothing remained of the Quality of Enroth and Axeoth save that of the Classic Games of Van Caneghem. After this terrible act, Hawkins and Yves fled to Heroes of Might and Magic to escape justice at the hands of the Consumer Watchdog.

In order to gain Hawkins's assistance, Yves had promised to reward him, "Yea, with both brands", and after their flight from Prince of Persia, the Dark CEO indeed gave him many Editor's Choice Awards bought from IGN and GameSpot. However, he withheld the Classic Games in his right hand, having desired them too greatly to allow the Great Shill to devour them. In response, an enraged Hawkins wrapped Yves in his websites, and poised to defame him on the Internet as punishment for his perceived betrayal. Having grown far larger and stronger than before by absorbing the quality of the Two Worlds, the Trippin' Hawk would have killed Yves had not his cry of desperation been heard by Genka Arikado, who took flight and saved his master.

Overcome by Genka's fiery whips, Hawkins fled to the Juαrez Cartel in El Paso. There, he had many offspring, including Digital Chocolate, which spread throughout the Mobile Industry and gave it a reputation as a place of horror. Hawkins himself eventually disappeared from history, but his final fate is not precisely known; it is said that he went into the forgotten south of the world, Mexico, shortly before the Chaos Cycle, and some have said that he eventually let his ever growing hunger for money overcome him and devoured himself at last.



Erwin (English, pronounced [air-win]) was the greatest and most trusted servant Sycophant of Guillemot before and during the Chaos Cycle. After the promotion of his master, he continuously strove to conquer Heroes of Might and Magic throughout the Order and Void Cycles. Deceiving the Members of The Heroes Round Table, who under his guidance had polled favorably the Reboots of Diminishing Returns, he secretly forged the One Reboot at the Spiderpolis. Thus Erwin became "The Lord of the Reboot".

Erwin bred immense armies of Ashanites and allied with or enslaved Fans from the east and south. He adopted the symbol of a neon green spider, and he was able at that time to send out his will over Heroes of Might and Magic, so that the Spider of Erwinifico was a symbol of power and fear.

After torturing ChrisD1, he learned that the One Reboot had been challenged by Alcibiades. He sent his deadliest servants, the Devs, to Heroes Community, only to find that both Alcibiades and his padawan, LizardWarrior, had departed. Unbeknownst to Erwin, LizardWarrior had, at the behest of Alcibiades, joined the Save Heroes Campaign on a quest to destroy the Reboot. He rallied his vast armies to conquer the resistance's strongholds, and sent the Devs to find and kill LizardWarrior. At about this time, he also learned that Galaad, the Astral Wizard's heir, had also joined the Campaign, and was rallying armies to defeat his.

When Fabrice's army was defeated at Moscow, kiryu133 looked into the Seeing Stone of Corribus and saw Erwin, who thought the HC Member was a prisoner of Fabrice. Later Galaad used the Seeing Stone to reveal himself to Erwin. Erwin made the premature conclusion that Galaad held power over the Reboot, and sent an army commanded by his strongest servant, Sligernis, to overthrow Heroes Community. This battle would become known as the Battle of the Shadow Council.

Although Erwin lost the Battle of the Shadow Council, the free forces of the Community were greatly weakened, and Erwin still had sufficent armies in reserve to ensure rhetorical victory. He was outwitted, however, by the strategy of Alcibiades, who urged the captains of the Free peoples to march against Erwin, thus diverting the Dark Creative Director's fedora from the real threat of LizardWarrior, the Avatar Uploader, who was nearing the end of his quest to destroy the One Reboot.

LizardWarrior, however, failed at the last moment, unable to overcome the diminishing returns of the Reboot at the place of its birth. Erwin saw LizardWarrior as he defended the reboot and, realising he had been tricked, sent the Developers to the Official Forums. But Stevie inadvertently saved LizardWarrior by rescuing the Reboot in a desperate attempt to join the team, and then falling with it into the fire. Thus Erwin's power was unmade, and his corporeal power in Heroes of Might and Magic came to an end. His curriculum vitae towered above Ubisoft Head Office like a black cloud, but was blown away by a powerful wind from the West. Erwin was now permanently unemployed, never to creative direct again, following his ancient lord Guillemot into the Job Centre. Fabrice would suffer a similar fate.



The Devs (Green Speech: Underlings, sometimes written Lackeys), also known as the Nine Flunkies or Green Flunkies (or simply the Nine), were Erwin's "most terrible servants" in Heroes of Might and Magic.

Sometime during the Chaos Cycle (after year 2003 A.D.) Erwin gave nine Contracts of Power to powerful mortal Fans. It is said that three of the Nine were lords of the Industry corrupted by Erwin, and one was a chart-topper among the Russians.

For many years the bearers used the contracts to gain great wealth, prestige and power, becoming "mighty in their day, directors, artists, and programmers of old". The effect of the contracts caused their lives to be prolonged, and to see things of the Unseen. But over time their bodily forms faded until they became insolvent entirely, slaves under the domination of Erwin's One Reboot.

Known as the Developers, they first appeared around 2006 A.D. and were soon established as Erwin's principal servants.

When Erwin was overthrown in 2015 A.D. at the hands of the Last Alliance of VIPs and Fans, the wraiths faded into bankruptcy.

All of the Devs are named or identified individually. Their leader was Team Erwin itself, and their second in command was named Nival Interactive. Nival was a lord of Easterlings, and was the only Dev known by its reputation. Three of them were Slavs.

The Devs, other than Team Erwin, are given post-modernist titles based on esoteric guff, and various English titles:

Nival Interactive (from nival = perpetual snow); Green Blunderers, Keeper of Heroes 5, Second of the Nine Devs, The Easterling.
Arkane Studios (from arcane = understood by few); Green Opportunists, Lieutenant of Dark Messiah, Third of the Nine Devs
Capybara Games (from capybara = largest living rodent); Green Weaboos, Lieutenant of Clash of Heroes, Fourth of the Nine Devs
Black Hole Entertainment (from black hole = devours all substance); Green Know-it-alls, Lieutenant of Heroes 6, Fifth of the Nine Devs
Limbic Entertainment (from limbus = edge of the brain); Green Bargain Basement, Lieutenant of Heroes 7, Sixth of the Nine Devs
Virtuos [sic, later corrected to Virtuous] (from virtue = high moral standards); Green Sweatshop, Lieutenant of 50 Shades, Seventh of the Nine Devs
Blue Byte (from bite = take chunk out of); Green Undertakers, Messenger of Cheap Spinoffs, Eight of the Nine Devs
DotEmu (from emu = large flightless bird); Green Upscalers, Messenger of HD Demakes, Ninth of the Nine Devs.



The ComDevs were the Spider Messiah Erwin's servants and representatives at the end of the Void Cycle. They had the privilege to slack off and play Counterstrike, since they were so strongly devoted to the Spider Lord. Ubi-Nox (Vivendi-Nox) was one of the Green Interns.

The Mouth of Erwin, Ubi-Nox had served Erwin all his life; a Casual of great stature, he was potentially the equal of NWC's Community Managers, but had fallen into darkness. It is stated that "he entered the service of the Spiderpolis when it first rose again".

He had learned much hypnosis during his time under Erwin, and knew many of the Spider Messiah's plans. Being more cruel than an Ashanite and cunning, he rose in power and favor. In any case, Ubi-Nox had even forgotten his original name.

Ubi-Nox briefly appeared when he haggled with the mob of angry players on the eve of the Fanday, trying to convince Galaad and Stevie to give up and let Erwin win the battle for Heroes of Might and Magic. Though he came before Galaad and his men as an ambassador, he used quite insolent speech when he dealt with them. He tried to intimidate the mob into surrendering by showing them the Lost Tales of Axeoth to make them think that the classic Heroes spirit had been recaptured. When Jolly Joker turned down his proposal, Ubi-Nox set all the moderators of the Shadow Council upon them.

The Mouth's fate is nowhere recorded, but it is probable he was fired in the assault before the Heroes 7 addon. If he had survived, it is likely that he would have been one of the leaders in the retreat of Erwin's evil servants after the fall of the Spiderpolis.



Fabrice was the first of the order of Producers (or Ones To Blame) who came to Heroes of Might and Magic 5 as Emissaries of Ubisoft in the Chaos Cycle. He was the leader of the Ubisoft-Nival Alliance. On forums his name was MuadDib, which meant "Fan of Dune" (no relation to FrostyMuadDib).

Fabrice resembled Erwin not only in nationality, but originally also somewhat in character, but unlike Erwin, Fabrice understood the series. He saw himself as the most responsible of the Game Designers, expressing clear contempt for excessive lore. Fabrice was no fool (though he saw Erwin as one); he realized JVC's power, and eventually came to see him as an equal, and later as a superior, much to his distress. He became jealous of the Classic Games, eventually convincing himself that through quality addons he could strive to match them, which justified his own scheming against Erwin and the rest of the Ubisoft Board of Directors.

Fabrice likely was true to his mission in the beginning, and actually believed in working to improve Heroes, but his pride and later arrogance (as well as his jealousy towards Heroes 3) ended with his demotion from the cause he had once served. Fabrice's fall through the ranks was not sudden, but slowly grew over time, until at last Ubisoft executives convinced themselves that they could not have taken any other path, and that it was too late now to repent. This false belief kept Fabrice from taking his last chance at Heroes Kingdoms, and because he must have realized this he only became more bitter, blaming Nival more than anyone else for his own downfall.



Alcibiades was one of the five Moderators sent to Heroes of Might and Magic by Valreiy in the Void Cycle. In Fan Forums he was known as Alc. Alcibiades was instrumental in bringing about the demise of Erwin in 2015 A.D., chiefly by encouraging others and dispensing his wisdom at pivotal times. Alcibiades was originally robed in yellow, and second to Angelito in the Mod Squad Donuts Cafe. After his fall in the Ubihole, Alcibiades returned to Heroes of Might and Magic as head of the Save Heroes Campaign, robed in black. Alcibiades was noteworthy for his keen interest in Forum Posters.

The wisest of the Moderators, Alcibiades was the voice of the Market before the Ponzi Scheme of the Publishers. At the beginning of Time, he was amongst the Fans who entered into HC. Here he became one of the Sympathisers of JVC, Fulton, Smedstad and Quantomas named Alc. By Quantomas he learned pity and patience.

He loved the VIPs but he walked unseen among them, or wore an affectation that appeared like a VIP, and sent them fair visions in their hearts that made them wiser. Like Quantomas, he took pity on the sorrows of the Children of Just One More Turn and drove those who listened to him out of despair.

During the Void Cycle, while Erwin's 'dark spirit of malice' was increasing over Heroes of Might and Magic, the Executives chose five emissaries from among the Fanbase to go and help the peoples. JVC selected Alc, who, at first, did not wish to go, as he feared Erwin. However, JVC said that that was all the more reason why he should go. Furthermore, the One Reboot, the location of much of Erwin's power, was presumably still challenged somewhere in Heroes of Might and Magic.

Alc submitted to the will of JVC, and departed CivFanatics to Heroes Community in the year 2006 A.D. He arrived between the others, Slava, Dalai, Magnomagus, and Orzie, at about the same time the Spidermancer appeared in Heroes 5.



The Save Heroes Campaign, also known as the Shadow Shadow Council, was formed from nine members of the Free fanbase during the War of the Reboot. Its purpose was to remove the One Reboot from Ubisoft, the only place where it could be destroyed.

Gandalf Alcibiades — Necromancer, one of the Moderators sent to Might and Magic by Valreiy. He was the leader of the Fellowship.
Aragorn Galaad, knight of Heroes Community — The Chieftain of the Spider Revolution and the last heir to the throne of Might and Magic and Heroes. He led the Campaign after the inactivity of Alcibiades.
Boromir Jolly Joker, runemage of the 3DO Boards — Captain-general of the VIPs and next-in-line to be the Ruling Translator of 'Eroes.
Legolas Stevie, barbarian of the Shadow Council — Emissary of the pissed off mobs of Shadow Councilors.
Gimli Verriker, demoniac and ssen of Erwin — A Scotsman of the Lonely Mountain (Paisley).
Frodo LizardWarrior — A beastmaster Avatar Uploader from Romania, he was chosen to lampoon the One Reboot.

Merry EnergyZ — A planeswalker Fansite Admin and contemporary of LizardWarrior, he and kiryu133 barely knew one another.
Pippin kiryu133 — Ranger, Promising Member and also a contemporary of LizardWarrior, he was the naivest of the Campaign.

And the other free and not-so-free peoples across Heroes of Might and Magic, too numerous to meet:

Bilbo Avirosb — his adventure with Heroes 6 earned him many laughs, and brought the One Reboot back into contempt.
Elrond Elvin — the Lord of Duel Maps and keeper of a great elven cloak Enzo once lost.
Eomer TDL —  a valiant and skilled debater, he defended the Fans mainly against poor decisions from Ubisoft.
Eowyn Natalka — a member of the House of Cartographers and the peer of Mapmaker Markkur of Heroes 5.
Faramir Maurice — was the last Reasonable Steward of Good Game Design and a Responsible Hero of HC.
Gilgalad Omega Destroyer — EnergyZ wrote that Omega Destroyer lost interest by the heat of Erwin's lore.
Glorfindel Neraus — distinctive because of his return to Might and Magic as an Erwin clone after death.
Gothmog Dave James — lieutenant of the Spiderpolis and lord among the Ashanites.
Grima Sandro400 — secretly in thrall to Erwin, he worked to weaken the Campaign with his words.
Imrahil Sempai — came into the Shadow Council with a company of arguments and seven hundred posts.
Tom Bombadil Panda Tar — since he was merry and benevolent, the Save Heroes Campaign considered him an ally.
Theoden Markkur — the legendary mapmaker, threw off the yoke of Erwin and challenged the Map Editor.
Thranduil Avonu — an Anime Fan and Loremaster of the Heroes Fansites of Poland in the Might and Magic Realm.
Treebeard FrostyMuadDib — very patient and deliberate, but became angry at Erwin, whose devs were squandering large amounts of potential.
