HoMM 8: Utopia (faction suggestions)

That's my suggestion for a new world, different than Ashan and featuring a mixture of classical creatures spread across new factions, echoing (though greatly changing) the spirit of existing ones. First, let's call my gameworld suggestion Utopia (temporary name), whose actual meaning is "no-place" in Greek- as it still doesn't exist. Also, Ashan still exists and can perhaps be accessed through portals- Utopia is just one different world in a long chain of dimensions.
So, let's start...

The World

Utopia is a pretty ordinary world, kinda similar to our Earth (except in some parts). The setting is also quite ordinary fantasy- for now (I'll edit in details later). As most of the world is engulfed in mysterious Mist (whose contents will be revealed in DLCs or expansions), the game takes place on one large Continent and its nearby islands. Technology-wise, the game is set in late Renessiance period- meaning there are guns and stuff, but melee weaponry is still widely used in armies & magic is also abundant. Let's go on into the factions. For this post's sake I'll use the old 7-tier system. However, in the actual game I'll rather keep using the Core/Elite/Champion system (with no choice between Champions- maybe will add it later), but the building order (in certain factions' towns) will be quite restrictive so it'll actually be more similar to the old system.

Factions:

* The Mists - is the equivelant of the familiar Necropolis. Basically, the world is surrounded by deadly Mists teeming with the undead, and sometimes mysterious champions ride out to snatch souls and whole villages disappear overnight. Their themes are fear, air,  hunger, insanity and death. Most their units are quite the glass-cannons- meaning they'll need extensive spell support to win against foes which survived their initial onslauht.

Units:

1. Wisp
2. Taken
3. Skeletal Hound
4. Vampire
5. Headless Horseman
6. Mother of Grief (basically, a corpulent ghostly woman that sucks souls, when it attacks it transforms into a tentacled horror- I'll add more later)
7. Wendigo

* The Explorers - are your "standard" human faction. As their name implies, they're relative newcomers from beyond the Mists and they're focused on exploration and empire-building. While their units are generally sub-par to others, their strong economy allows them to recruit Mercs. Associated with earth, mercenaries, commerce & diplomacy but also esoteric mysteries, sight & revenge.

1. Caravan Guard
2. Peryton
3. Mercenary
4. Outrider
5. Scholar
6. Ogre
7. Angel

* Carnival- the Elven faction, though little bit more similar to Dungeon. Basically, the Elves were cursed to wander around the world in large Carnival tropes, spreading chaos wherever they go- while striving to lift the curse which threatens to devour their sanity, bodies & souls. Their themes are deception, mischief, chaos, luck, darkness (but also light- though to a lesser extent), humor and deformity.

1. Gremlin
2. Satyr
3. Harlequin
4. Trolls (a pair of conjoined twin warriors)
5. Nightmare
6. Chimera
7. Faceless

* The Dominion- Also known as "slavedrivers", this faction is basically a wild mixture between Academy, Forge, Dungeon & Inferno. Similarly to the Explorers, they're also invaders from afar, perhaps even another Dimension- but their purpose isn't to seek a home, but to enslave all. They're associated with fire, perfection, domination, technology and destruction (and to a lesser degree creation).

1. Dwarf Ironguard
2. Barghest
3. Clockwork Man
4. Erinyes
5. Minotaur
6. Demon Engineer
7. Titan

* The Cove - The Cove are basically Orc Pirates (and a mixture of Stronghold, H3 Fortress & Sanctuary)! They're associated with might, mobility, savagery, water, the ocean & freedom.

1. Flying Fish
2. Goblin Deckhand
3. Orc Buccaneer
4. Scylla
5. Echidna
6. Cyclops
7. Leviathan (some kind of aquatic Behemoth)

* The Caretakers - Kind of a mix between Sylvan . The Caretakers strive for Balance, against the Slavedrivers' domination, the Explorers' sometimes uncontrolled expansion, the Carnival's chaos, the Cove's careless plunder and the mysterious schems of the Mists. They'are associated with balance, the elements and nature.

1. Pixie
2. Gnome
3. Salamander
4. Djinn
5. Kelpie
6. Treant
7. Phoenix

Neutrals: Cannibal, Sandshark, Unicorn, Dragon (abilities change according to terrain)

Opinions, for now?

Okay, I dislikes your vision for several of these factions, dominion in paticular. If you are interested, I'll gladly state why.

However, looking on what you got inspires me to try and put together my own little world...

To Mediczero

I'm actually quite interested in hearing your crtiticism of the line-ups. Remember- this is my attempt at presenting alternatives to the familiar 6 factions of HOMM, so of-course I was expecting some healthy criticism...

Okay, here is the big stuff.
Dominion:
Really, really dislikes this. Since when was dwarfs actually evil..? Long story short this is simply a far to bizarre mix of this that in my oppinion doesn't work together, on top of the high risk of becoming a cliche "evil" faction.
My personal suggestion for inprovement is to either devide them into two faction: A forge/dwarf industry faction and a slavedriver/overlord faction. If you want to keep the faction number down, I would pick industry only.

Carnival:
This is litterally a circus. Okay, I honestly think that the whole idea of cursed, insane elves are good, but they aren't much of a faction if they're limited to being a traveling circus. something else might work better.

Caretakers:
Two simple problems reallly.
1) Their lineup lacks unity. We got a lot of random units, paticularly falls slamanders and djinns to much out from the rest. Some sort of replacements could be considered.
2) Either it's just me, or they seems (based of the lore) to be too powerful compared to other factions. Not sure, just a feeling I got.

A now for the smaller stuff:
Mist could use a skeleton unit in tier 2.
Zombie hound over skeleton hound (thrust me, doesn't look good)
Ogre seems out of place. Perferly replace with Griffin
Peryton feels like being 1 tier to low.
Troll isn't just a pair of conjoined twin, but an actual twoheaded troll, right..?
Gnome is boring.
Chimera > Faceless (faceless out completely)
Why Echidna? Why no naga or mermaid..?
And lastly, Leviathan should be a LOBSTER monster
