Is there a way to customize the hero?

I miss the hero customization from previous heroes, even Heroes III has more ways to transform your hero than Heroes VII.

I've used the cheat console in single player skirmish to replace complete tiers in the skill wheel, and works perfect! But changes does not persist after reload the game.

I've even tried (to understand) the editor but apparently there is no way to open a single player map, nor to place a customized wheel skill in a custom hero.

Is there a way to customize the skill wheel permanently?

Nobody? I need to know to continue gaming because right now I prefer Heroes 3, or 4 in which I can develop my character in more ways using the editor.

Another question. How to make visible all heroes in Skirmish customization? In Heroes 3, and 4 I do that trough the editor, but in 7 apparently I can't open any map with the editor.

OMG, It's like you want RPG elements in this RPG/TBS! how dare you!?

I kid of course. the game is sorely lacking in meaningful customization.

I can't open the shipped maps as well. The Editor masks the 'CookedPC' directory and if you circumvent that, the Editor complains about such maps being "cooked". Maybe that means they are compiled somehow, or maybe it's just a stupid flag and we are not intended to open them.

As i already played a nice custom map (Shantiri Ruins), and i found the random Maps somewhat playable and a good place to start a custom map, here is how you modify your hero.

To modify Hero Class:
- open map of your choice/create map
- create a new hero in the hero tool (helmet icon - map needs to be scenario)
- replace old hero/player start with your own creation on adventure map

To modify Skillwheel independent of Class, do further:
- change to unreal editor mode (rightmost icon)
- open the content browser (Ctrl + Shift + F)
- doubleclick new hero (found under EditorWorkspace -> mapname)
- check 'Use Override Hero Class Skills' and replace skills accordingly

You could also create a new class and use that as your new heroe's class. The customization options are actually, as far as i can see at this point, plentiful - but i think for your request the method above is appropriate.

EDIT: Images do not get properly displayed in my browser - added raw links.

EDIT2: Apparently cooking is an Unreal thing, where the editor data is transformed to a platform-native format. Cooked maps for PC should still be readable, since they retain their data.

If somebody knows how to tell the H7 editor to open those maps (for the standard unreal editor the option "-cookededitor" is needed), that would be a very valuable.

Thank You, so we have a way to customize our heroes, all that I wanted.

And about the character selection on Skirmish maps, is there a way to see them all?

You mean play campaign heroes like Ivan, Khalida, Wysloth in Skirmish map?
The game has a hero/artifact list in "MMH7Game£ÜCookedPC£ÜData£ÜH7Config.upk£ÜH7GameData", you can add your customize hero or campaign heroes to the list.
Most campaign heroes are in "MMH7Game£ÜCookedPC£ÜEditor£ÜTemplates£ÜHeroes£ÜH7StoryHeroes.upk", but need add starting troops and change AI role.

Thanks, I'm figuring it out how to re-play this awesome game after campaign maybe I'll return to ask about more crazy stuff.

Just to be sure, there is no way to make the cheat window changes permanent? (I want to play few maps before start modding).

Maybe editing some .ini file or a hidden option, just asking.

To BLA0815 or whomever else,
Hi my name is Bill. I am having a problem of my own. I am semi-proficient with the homm 6 and 7 editors which are somewhat similar. I am in the process of making a a huge sized map with underground (only 1/4 done). I have set my hero skill cap to lvl 75 but my hero's do not level past 30. Map properties shows 75 and I even set every player to 75 but it is not working. Do I have to make triggers or something in order to pass lvl 30 and set the experience required for each level? Any ideas? I am asking you cause I know you probably have the answer. Thanks in advance.

If I am not mistaken, the level cap of 30 is hard coded into the game. Until Limbic / UbiSoft raises it, I am afraid we're stuck with 30 as maximum level.
