ARGH! How do I play online?!

Introduction: Hello, I must be the biggest fail here because I can't seem to understand how to play online like the rest of you. I have thus so far attempted to look at over 60 pages on google and have already spent hours trying to figure this out.

Gameranger- When I start HMM3 in gameranger as the host I can launch the game, but am not sure if the other player can actually get in beyond the ingame lobby. It is possible the other person ends up crashing. I could not verify as apparently not everyone is a native English speaker who wants to be a guinea pig. When I try to join a game, HMM3 loads up but all I see the hourglass icon until the game crashes (No message, the app just closes). I never get to see the "new game" "load" available scenarios, in game lobby etc.

I am apparently behind a port NAT router so I port forwarded 16000 and the game still did not work. My ISP accidentally gave me a static IP which initially removed the message, but as my router constantly changes the ipv4 address, gameranger began being unable to connect at all whatsoever.

My ISP returned my IP to dynamic and thus I was able to reconnect to the gameranger server. So I did /ipconfig and decided to make an effort to port forward my IP manually every single time I restart the computer. Unfortunately for some reason, even when I port forward myself I still get the NAT cone restricted message.

Hamachi- Apparently its not a typical lobby like gameranger and you need to know a community to join. Since I don't even know if HMM3 runs at this point and I obviously just started I did not know of a community. Fail.

Edit: I am running HMM3 Complete so I would assume I'm running 4.0. Is there some sort of patch that everyone else is using that makes my client incompatible? Some unspoken online hmm3 patch that everyone else has but me.

I didn't have much luck with online play too. Only successfully connected twice in 10-15 tries. Other than port forwarding, here are some troubleshooting fixes I've seen recommended on forums

Run gameranger as adminstrator
Set heroes 3 compatibility to windows 2000
Turn off firewall.

If you are using hd mod, there is a recent suggestion in the online troubleshooting thread to delete the file DPWSOCKX.DLL. Also you should turn off HD+ option unless opponent has it enabled as well.

You can use gameranger as matchmaking service and state in room description that you are trying hamachi.

Thanks for responding! I found out my main problem was that other people were not playing the same version as me and were either not speaking English or just did not want to communicate.

So far my experience has been that Hmm3 players on Gameranger are elitist jerks. My last game I had to go up, right, down, left, up, past 5 monster packs to reach my sawmill. It took about 3-4 turns to even reach it.

Well we ended up with a similar sized army, but he had Crag Hack with dragon utopia items vs my just barely amassed army. I tried to thank him afterwards, but he had already blocked me.

Its sad that I'm getting my butt kicked by people I would have been able to beat when I was 12 years old. Then again that means I would lose to a 12 year old I guess lol.

Was about to win my first game (1/3). I was playing perfectly like days of old. Week 2 red dragons, week 3 black dragons, waterwalk, two castles, 8000 income. Lets see what he has...50 grand elves. Going to upgrade everything in week 4 and attack on week 5.

Wait till his 80 grand elves meet my army of 10+ black dragons and a fully upgraded dungeon with every spawn purchase. Today is not your day "Bosmer", Skyrim belongs to the Nords!

Lost connection...well it was obviously my win but SOB! Time to get an ethernet cable

2015 and my internet connection is less stable on wifi than it was on modem. I tried messaging every bosmer but he was offline. He probably blocked me too.
