I am tired of too many variations to be honest, I've even seen the idea of "good" dwarves and dark dwarves, and "high elves", "wood elves" and "dark elves" in Warlords Battlecry III, and while I liked the game, too many races made some of it redundant to me.

And who said anything about Tolkien "clone" ? If you noticed, my Rampart was a lot HoMM and far less Tolkien-ish.

Another idea- the Dwarven Dungeon...

The Dwarven Dungeon

Imagine: what if the Dwarves were the dominant underground faction, creating weaponry & machines of war & enslaving creatures from above & below the surface to serve their whims... Dwarves actually fit the theme of H3's Dungeon quite well- a tyrannical underground faction, strongly connected to offensive Earth & Fire magic. Greed can also explain their connection with the Dragons- perhaps the Dragons are even former ancient Dwarves, transformed by their greed (like the Norse Fafnir..). And you don't need to make them "dark dwarves" even- just say that the standard Dwarves are badass, greedy snows who field legions to keep capturing slaves to toil in their mines & build machines of war... The townscreen should be filled with the clanking of hammers, smoke & fire rising out of the open forges, whip-cracks, the screams of slaves & the harsh sound of army boots, as the Dwarves mobilize their forces to make war on the surface...

Core

Dwarf Ironguard (heavily armored dwarven pikemen), Crossbowdwarf, Barghest (eyeless hound-like creatures, used to track down escaped slaves)

Elite

Wyrm (a burrowing, armor-plated cross of between a worm & a dragon, creating temporary tunnels that creatures can pass through), Minotaur, Medusa

Champion

Hydra, Red Dragon (upgrades into Black Dragon)

Okay, honestly dislike the entire slave thing. Why not an old a strong alliance with the darkelves, replacing the Crossbow Dwarf with a darkelf and maybe something else from the Barghest....

@Moonshade I really like your idea. I think it would be just fine to throw dark-elves out of the game, they are being over-used in fantasy. Evil dwarves ruling through tyranny sounds very good

Yes replace the only original (Barghest, its from mythology so the bad Line-up smith instantly hates it) monster from the line-up and replace it with the same old snow we get shoved down our throats all the time.

You are the worst line-up smith out there, really leave the original ideas from those posters alone, and create your own Ashan-based line-ups instead.

I would replace the Medusa for another creature, and the Red Dragon for the Fafnir or Nidhogg.

I know people are gonna be pissed off because you cut the boring colored dragons from the game, but they can lick my boots, those boring dragons are NOTHING compared to Fafnir and Nidhogg anyway, and people are suckers for Norse mythology, so they will embrace it eventually.

Also in my own project I use these Dvergr (Dark Dwarves) minions.

Dvergr
- Archer (These Dark Dwarves use special hand crossbows they invented themselves to attack from range.)
- Guard (Guard Dvergr have magical self-crafted shields which block many attacks, and powerful hammer weapons which break through many forms of defense easily.)
- Inventor (These Dvergr create many strange inventions and constructs like the Gold-Digging Ants and Golems, they ride on Automaton Bulls called Khalkotauroi.)
- Mechaniac (Insane with replacing their own flesh with mechanical parts, these abominable dwarves turned their own bodies into living weapons.)
- Dactyl (Some Mechaniacs went too far with replacing their body parts with mechanical parts, and they became constructs entirely, named Dactyl they appear to be Dwarf-Like Golems.)

Made this line-up years ago, while writing a story set on Ashan.

Orcs from the mountains:

Goblin Climber
Goblins, able to climb over a wall during a siege and gets bonus damage against units, who are slowed down.

Harpy Fury
Same as always, strike and return with no retaliation.

Spearwielder Skirmisher
Young orcs and the first shooter, can slow down enemy unit and has no melee penalty

Brute Warrior
Mighty Orc-warriors. Not much more to say.

Cave Troll Stone Troll
Second shooter with regeneration.

Ice Wyvern Frost Wyvern
Can feat on defeated stacks to regenerate and have resistance to water-based magic.

Cyclop Mountain Cyclop
Crushing blow (attacks always a 4-tiles area)

I had one idea about Inferno. Maybe I should flood a bit so it can be made topic.

Its like:
Imp suicide bomber.
Cultist.
Demonic Brute.
Succubus.
Religious fanatic.
Mimic / Shapeshifter / doppepganger / illuminati
Devil/archdevil

============================

Polls and discusions shows that people don't like inferno faction. Jet it's the main antagonist often needed for storyline. Someone just needs plans of conquer the world to stop them. And since necromancers are considered good by many.
I don't thinks this is becouse it's weak and no defence but becouse it is too boring.
Well, in H5 inferno is kind of bright red steroid users. What the Hell is the pit fiend? It's like hell's devil or something equaly general. Nightmare = night mare, it's just an english language, there is no why someone should be afraid of bright red horses. Well, it's DnD, but whatever.

In M&M universe they are kind of like infernal aliens from space. Hence if you search the internet you can find that all of the politicians are alien shapeshifting reptiles. Well, that would explain everything.
But there are alsou occultism, conspiracy theories, ancient civilisations (Ur Zikurat, Egypt, scorpion king), devil possesed individuals, nazis living under the antartic ice and dark side of moon. There are people who believe that they are irradiated by their neigbours with using evil rays and people who believe aeroplanes leaves chemical trails spreading HIV viruses. Up to the modern real evil of terrorism. I think it would be cool to have a suicide bomber imps.

It alsou looks that in southern Europe they see Hell as fiery place when in north Hell is an ice and darkness. In eastern europe devils lives in swamps. Hence I have hard time to associate the Hell with a fire. For me fire is a cousyness in winter.

In Inferno I liked few things. When I first saw this coliseum, it was WOW. H3 devils and archdevils were very stylish. And the H5 imps were pretty cool and very nasty for spelcasters.

Here is my modernised evil Inferno:
Colour: dark crimson of dried blood; black and white.
Motto: "anuit coeptis, novus ordo seclorum."
Sign: triangle with burning egyptan eye in the center.
Capital: Ur Zikurath.
Leader: Baphomet. He/she is kind of cool. All the evidence from Leo Taxil shows freemasons worship him.
Favored terrain: imperial court.

Units without upgrades and stats just the concept:
1st level
Imps
Steels mana and on upgrade becomes a suicide bomber. Just imagine those funny imps with a bombs instead of bottles of mana.

2nd level
Cultist / Corruptor
Fanatic cultist from all kinds of fantasy races, hence they allways have high morale. Weak malee fighter/ caster like weak pit fiends of H5, but an attack curses and corrupts it's enemies. And there allways are a lots of cult fanatics.

3rd level
Demonic brute
Very strong and fast malee fighter looking just like H5 devils. Blood of these were used to create orcs.

4rd level
Succubus
Well, they need some shooter. And it's nice to have some females there. And imagine cute orcies made by mixing DNA of humans and succubus.

5rd level
Crusader/ inquisitor / jihadi
These individuals instead of "true believers of all religions" are individuals tricked into belief that killing other religions is their duty. Hence they are blessed by infernal occult magic and ignites those of attacked.

6rd level
Mimic / Shapeshifter / doppepganger / illuminati
Rather weak caster but can shape itself into any other unit with its abilities but keeping it's power level. Hence it can become some 20 imps or 1/2 black dragons. On the upgrade it looks just like unit it turns into but are somewhat better than the original. Demons uses theses to infiltrate into courts of kingdoms.

7rd level
Devil/archdevil
Malee fighter. Moves by teleportation. Alsou can posses unit standing just next to it: on its move takes control of unit and takes an action. Kind of, enemy hydras stand next to devils. On its move devil posseses hydras and forces it to attack sexy dark elf witches. Don't works on 7th level or it could be imba.

Or maybe Behemoth of H3 as biblical beast with the upgrade into Belzebull.

Special demonic skills:
1. Gating. Summons more demons from the hell.
2. Banking. In inferno town you can build a Bank. After that it start to suck the life out of everyone on the map decreasing hit points of all the units. This would be benefitial if inferno troops would not depend on hit points, all attack without retaliation, gating and owerHellming growth. Bank upgrades to Buerocraty. Hence banking upgrades to corruption and certification decreasing income of all the towns.
This could be some house of pestilence or like that. Poisoning magical wells could be the good start of the campaign.

Neutral (candidate) units:

Nightmare crawler
Looks like hudge dark crimson animal with six legs instead of head having stalk with the eye. From the eye it shoots rays of energy spreading terror on those touched.

Jackal demon
Looks like Seth or Anubis. These demons of old originated in desert sands. These pesty creatures scavange the battlefields increasing their numbers or abtaining mana or resources whatever. Need this to add some egyptan tematics as it have some mystical flavor.
