More than 16 heroes per faction in HOMM3?
Normally a faction in Heroes 3 has 16 available starting heroes (if none are banned) Does anyone know if it is possible to have more than 16 per faction? I've tried allowing more than 16 in the map editor, but then it just seems to randomly dissable some heroes...

I think the number is fine, it's their skills that make some of them obvious picks and some of them frustrating to have.

Maybe they are just in Prisons?

Hello guys, I am new in this forum, so I have few questions.
Few years ago I was playing HOMM3 SOD with my friend, now I want to play it again.
I downloaded Heroes 3, I change Data to Data_sod and Data_sod to Data, I add templates txt files to random maps, but for some reasons Heroes 3 doesn't create that Original 1v1 maps which I have been playing few years ago. As I remember, people play only these 1v1, but I don't know what I am doing wrong.. I hope you will be able to help me.
Sorry for not making new topic, for some reasons forum doesn't allow me to create it..

Who let the prison door open MrTomas is loose again!
For the first question, i think the number is fixed. You can click from map editor options to select campaing heroes available and what heroes aren't, that how you can bybass the 16 hero cap anyway. In newer map editors you can also edit the heroes available. Not their speciality tough, unless mod in place.

I think you misunderstood me, there are some other templates, which added to "random maps" profile creates specific maps for 1v1.
So the question is where I can get these templates or what I should change to make it work.
I know I can create random maps, but it will not be it..
I also know that people play only "these" specific 1v1 maps and it's different than simple random maps.
I hope you'll understand me now, I don't know how to explain it.
Btw if you could write me on skype and helt it would be nice

Just necroed my almost 10 year old thread. 
Do you guys have any good ideas how to add more than 16 heroes per faction?
I mean I know how to do it, but if I add a 17th hero for Castle for example, that will change Castles chances to get 350 gold heroes (Caitlin) and Estates heroes (Lord Haart and Cuthbert) and Navigation (Sylvia) heroes for example.
So adding additional heroes to only some towns, will affect that towns chances to get gold, resurse, Logistics, Navigation and Scouting heroes for example.
So ideally all towns should get an extra might and magic hero, but we don't have that many extra heroes to spare.
So how would you add additional heroes, without ruining a towns economy, movement and scouting potential?
I suppose some additional heroes could also be put into prisons instead, but then you most likely won't main them and that was the goal...

Mathematically, just double the number of heroes to keep the same ratio of everything but I doubt you need that many, or can think of of that many different heroes.
It's easier just axe the eagle eye/scholar/nav hero. You could not possibly value ALL 15 other heroes equally

It would just be nice with as many heroes as possible, more heroes, more possibilities.
But of course some heroes are much too OP, like Sir Mullich, Gelu and Dracon for example, but some heroes would be fine as additional heroes, especially some of the HotA heroes.

If you add just one to each faction it won't change the ratios much - you'd have to be a strict purest who believed the origin proportions are golden

You are right, I don't even have 1 extra hero for all factions though and Conflux don't have any at all.
Then I would have to get creative and design some myself. That is a possibility I guess, but I would have to think about starting skills, specialty and possibly starting spell to try and make them reasonably balanced.
But I think I would prefer already existing heroes.

I think we need more skills and morze skills lvl. It may give more gameplay styles. Now all hero is nearly the same. 1/2 skills is rather ignorable. We have about 14 real skills.
Better hero specilalties will be good too.
More than 2 classes per faction is a good idea.
Rest is your own portraits import option.

Put the new hero in a prison, if you don't want him to show up. If you do want him to show up, delete one of those crappy ones, that will never be picked anyway.
