those are some very productive comments.

you know, i've only played two ubisoft games. and only one do i own(far cry), although i bought it before ever knowing anything about ubisoft. the game's fine, but i couldn't stop dying from malaria. no matter what i did, i could never find enough medication. probably because i liked to roam in the open world, and snipe people while on foot.

Vivendi might be the salvation of the Heroes franchise or turn it completely Warcraft, which is not a far fetched thought considering their background with Blizzard. It'd be interesting to see how this internal struggle will reflect on the games they make.

if they're anything like ubisoft, then they'll pick up where the last company left off...

that is, with the worst of the series.

but i don't see why they would make heroes any more of a warcraft clone, seeing as they already did that.

if their company takes over the heroes franchise, and if they have any sense, they will take note of what the fans of the series is most amiable with: homm3. and they'll expand on that baby; instead of the afterbirths that came later(that no one should ever have pretended were babies, lol).

I am really indifferent I mean Ubisoft is not doing a great job handling its franchises now,

Old post I know, but: the company is worth almost 1.5 billion euros and made a sizeable profit last year. I think they are probably handling their IP just fine.

In any case a new majority owner might take the HoMM franchise in a new direction, but I wouldn't count on it.

I think they are handling it enough not to have more loss than profit but IMO they could have a much better profit if they actually RESPECTED the ESSENCE of the IP they bought, which I believe was Gryphs's original point.
Also should be taken into consideration their RoE lifting sold IIRC 5 TIMES MORE than the last insult they dare call Heroes 7, isn't that saying something.

EDIT> Seems I misread Gryphs's post, thought he was speaking about the M&M franchise and not all Ubi's franchises, still my point stands.

Em, no, they're handling their marketing right, which is what matters to them. However, the quality of the games has declined significantly, especially in the PC department, which is what matters to us. And between the two, I think Gryphs was talking about the latter.

I know pretty much nothing about Vivendi, but with how disappointing I've been finding Ubisoft as a whole lately, the potential of a more benevolent overlord who might turn things around fills me with hope. Not only do I hope things turn around for Heroes, but also for Assassin's Creed. As far as I'm concerned, Rogue was the last half-decent instalment, if only because it didn't follow Unity's horrible changes. But that's neither here nor there - Heroes needs a rebirth, if not a reboot.

I think UbiSoft is handling some of their products - well, the Heroes franchise at least - with a certain amount of arrogance that may harm them in the long run. I think their rationale is that H6 sold well in spite of bad reviews, and hence very little effort was put apparently put into H7 (in the sense that team Erwan was left to run the show) probably in the expectation that once again the fanbase would uncritically buy the game and secure their profit. But H7 has not sold well from the records I've seen, and by now a large part of the fanbase seems very wary of any products offered by UbiSoft in the series.

Bottom line is that UbiSoft may be making good profit at the moment, but if the same disregard for quality is given to their other products, that may not last long. But of course, a likely scenario is that they just don't care very much about the Heroes franchise and just considers it a cash cow that must be milked with minimum investment - in which case our best hope is that someone pulls a Cities:Skylines on it.

Stevie has my point right. They are making money sure but the quality of their games is terrible(buggy, low polish, etc.). Heroes suffers from this harder than franchises like Assassin's Creed because it is a lesser series in their eyes.

Vivendi? That sounds like an old giant of gaming that I once heard of in the '90s.

Do not be surprised if, Vivendi could have founded Virtuos ever since.

Non majority shareholding companies that are, currently, being offered to fund their own gaming industry's developing companies.

When a world wide organization such as Ubisoft becomes too big to manage through the one and only main administration, the creation of all kinds of divisions do come to realisation.

Put the whole in perspective that, in a mere window of time, that there could be a humongous shortage of game developers as per capita. Going from a mere 500 million players out of a population of 6 billion people world wide to a whopping number of about 3 billion players out of the same overall population world wide(6 billion +).

Do you all see, some kind of a humongous burst in demand for both traditional PC and the rise of the pocket PC like Smartphone? I certainly do.

If Vivendi does buy out Ubisoft then the only thing that's going to happen to Heroes is that it's going to be taken out to the field and be put out of its misery. The fans will ofc be told that the series is doing fine, Heroes has just went upstates to live with grandma.
Still better then the current bad taxidermist job that is H7.

Agree though. Not that I'll particularly mind, given the state of the current game. Maybe then after some years someone will resurrect it and pull a Heroes 5.
