At first I was also surprised how so many negatives there are and how the final score is 6.8. I later noticed they count as negative everything less than 5, mixed are 5, 6 and 7 while positive are only the ones with 8, 9 and 10.

So having a 6.8 by metacritic standards is a mixed review which is closer to positive than negative remark even though there was a big number of negative reviews again by their standards.

You know dear mate the first time I heard RA 3 wasn't well received is on youtube where I was watching some RA 2 & Yuri's Revenge videos. I read like really harsh comments, like burn EA you killed our game and stuff, although it was some years ago (2012...).
Then I came to have the game by pure chance, didn't even buy it, and then gave it a try. And I had mostly the same feeling. I just didn't like it, for the reasons I gave you above.

As I said, RA's fate isn't Heroes', but many fans of the series and I felt like the spirit of the game vanished. Although others liked it just like you. So lol it's debatable. I'm old fashioned I can't help it.

TheUnknown said:
I haven't moved from RA 1 to RA 2, so I cannot comment on that one, but I did went from RA 2 to Yuri's (even to RA Reborn mod) and later to RA 3. I also did a lot of going trough Heroes titles and expansions and many other games.

We cannot compare an expansion to a new title because 99% of the people that liked the original game will like and even love the expansions. (We cannot compare RA 2 to Yuri's like RA 2 to RA 3 or Heroes III to Chronicles like Heroes III to IV)
Having a new title in the franchise is a lot more than a simple expansion because new titles are meant to bring a notable graphic, gameplay, storyline or many other changes. That is the case in almost every franchise.

And I advice to try RA 1, even if it's oldish it's an interesting experience. If you have the time, give it a try, you'll feel like going back in time, but it's good to see what was the spirit of the game originally. I think you'll understand me better.

TheUnknown said:
And I still believe that without a notable change (sometimes even a bad one), a new Heroes (or RA) title would hardly be a positive experience.

lol Watch out or verriker will Erwinize you!

verriker said:
if you understand how the gaming press operate in terms of how they score games you will understand why everything below an 8 is listed as mixed or negative lol

That's why I always look at the colors lol

RA3 is a mix between RA2 and Generals. In single player I would still go with RA2, but I find RA3 more enjoyable than both RA2 and Generals in MP, especially LAN with friends. The factions themselves have a rock paper scissor function, in that allies excel in air, soviet excel with tanks and ERS excel on water. This makes team battles in MP fun, unlike the useless AI teammate in SP. RA3 introduced a bit too much micro for my taste with activated abilities, but since many of them are basically switching unit functionality it is not as tedious as it could have been.

That's what one's to deal with with real time strategy game. As stated by Maurice, sometimes at higher difficluties it becomes out of control. Even in RA 2 already when facing multiple brutal enemies you were often... dépassé. At least you have to get used to it.
RA 3 MP is better though.

As for the relevance to this thread: a franchise taken over by another studio can still deliver enjoyable games, but will most likely deviate somewhat from the original concept. I've seen the attempts from Ubisoft, so a new takeover has a larger upside than downside from my point of view.

Unfortunatly for Heroes series Ubisoft wasn't a very good experience.
However, some games experienced the reverse, they were bad and when they got taken over, they became great games.

I don't wish anything good to Ubi.
The only way to have a chance of changing their approach is having generally low sales.

Vivendi is coming, 25%!.

Vivendi has just announced a new crossing of threshold within the capital of Ubisoft. Slowly but surely, the giant of mass media further its financial hold on the editor from Brittany.

Vivendi obviously has no intention to unloose pressure on Ubisoft. Having used the celebration of the thirtieth birthday of the editor last month to announce an umpteenth strengthening of his position within his capital, the giant of mass media has officially just declared to have crossed a new threshold.

to all things comes an end mate,
but before we get there first cue another tasty dose of deeply hypocritical bollocks from Yves about Ubisoft boundless creativity, love for gamers, caring for the customer, polished products, brave risk taking, developer freedom paradise and all that old bollocks lol

btw that Ubisoft is certainly full of swindlers and cheats, funny to see that news while Yves is still spewing such rubbish about the moral high ground,

therefore notice their executives have been caught and fined for insider trading, (this means selling your stock in advance when you know from privileged info that the stock will soon go down in price, which is illegal), these guys conspired and sold their stock knowing bloody well that game would be delayed and pretended they know nothing lol

with such slimy, insincere clowns in charge I'd say it is no surprise we got such cheap insulting Heroes games which serve only to be Ponzi schemes and take the money and run lol

And haram mate, I hereby declare djihâd against Pope Yves and his executives minions and this time I'm gonna have an ally in Neraus.

Edit : I read that they are appealing the decision, typical from Ubisoft anyways, since denying is their specialty.

Exclusive: Vivendi to accelerate expansion in video games and advertising - sources

By Mathieu Rosemain and Gwenaelle Barzic | PARIS

French media giant Vivendi will accelerate acquisitions in video games and advertising this year to allay investor concerns about its strategy, mixed results and poor share performance, two sources close to the matter told Reuters.

Advertising group Havas and video games maker Ubisoft are expected to be the first targets as Vivendi moves into the next phase of its expansion, the sources said.

In three years, Chairman Vincent Bollore has spent nearly 15 billion euros ($16 billion) of Vivendi's cash on shareholders and acquisitions, including taking large stakes in Telecom Italia and Italian broadcaster Mediaset.

Yet Vivendi's shares have fallen by about 3 percent over the period and analysts are still awaiting more details from the company about how exactly its strategy will pan out.

Bollore is expected to defend his record at an annual shareholders meeting on Tuesday in Paris, a rare occasion for the billionaire to flesh out his plan to turn Vivendi into an integrated European media powerhouse.

On paper, merging Havas with Vivendi would be the easiest deal as the ad company is 60 percent owned by Bollore and run by his son Yannick, who joined Vivendi's board last year. Bollore is also Vivendi's biggest shareholder with 20.65 percent.

In the case of Ubisoft, which is 25 percent owned by Vivendi, resistance from its founding Guillemot family could potentially lead to a costly, unsolicited full takeover bid.

"Vivendi is moving to the second phase, everything will take place this year,"
one of the sources said, referring to Havas and Ubisoft.

"The logical thing would be to buy Ubisoft," the second source said, adding that Bollore would not buy the video games maker at any price and could consider other targets in China.

And I was curious where things stood. They seem to be in a hurry but while their need is more urgent now, they might opt for easier targets. Either way 25% is threat enough for ubi.

An insignificant logo change. What matters more is that their shares fell and Vivendi still didn't go for the takeover. It's already summer 2017, just how much are they going to wait?
