I want to say that I find the new Star Wars even a little better than the first three. I give it a solid 8 on 10. It's fun, action packed, just not an intelligent plot and characters aren't -that- memorable.

J.J. Abrams was chosen by Disney because he is a master at copying previous movies, and that's what he did. This star wars' plot is like the same than the 3 first star wars all cramped together in one tight movie.

All the young actors without too much screen time did a great job. This was a pleasant surprise. The movie didn't have enough scenes between action moments to breathe and give more depth to our main characters, which made for a decent, but not exceptional, attachment. Still, better a cramped movie than one that is too long, and if we look back at the first three movies, George Lucas never really did a great job at making his characters memorable, even with all those long moments of dialogue.

Almost all the plot scenes are tied together with luck or coincidences, so often that even the force can't explain them all. This makes for a stupid movie covered up with action, fun and good acting. I'm tired of stupidities like a huge planet contraception blown out by firing 2 missiles at a specific weak point.

Still, having equally memorable characters but with all 3 original movies rolled into one is better, because damn, the first 3 movies were extremely long. It's also miles ahead of the 3 recent prequels, movies made by a depressed George Lucas that didn't even want to go out to film his last 3 movies. The Disney big boss are indeed geniuses, but money is their number one goal, which means to please the four quadrants. Pleasing the four quadrants mean not going on any path that isn't for everyone, and thus, Star Wars will never have unique plots to offer. Under Disney, Star Wars will always be good, but never be a real, artistic masterpiece.

You guys gotta be joking me. I just watched that thing today in cinema and it just sucked balls lol. The Vader fetishist was the biggest letdown of them all, in fact Snoke was far more memorable in the 2 scenes he had than him in the entire movie. The Deathstar and planetary destruction plot again, the same method of destruction - from the inside. Okay. The girl feeling the force, fighting with it, persuading, then using a lightsaber and defeating that shmuck in ONE DAY. Are you joking me lol! Luke had to train for, what, 20 YEARS to eventually even get defeated? Then all the cheesy scenes and family affairs, it's like the whole freaking universe washes all the laundry inside one single family. I mean, some things and some connections are so far fetched and otherworldly that they just beg belief.

Like with all the snowty american movies nowadays, boom, flash and ZERO substance. No, seriously, I think I'd have to abandon my brain at the door outside to really enjoy something like this. I cannot think of it in any other way than mediocre at its finest and absolutely terrible at its worst.

Good bro, I was wondering if is my age who made me grumpy.

It was relevant as I had to implore my gf to come with me, she didn't see any of previous sequels as she is not interested by Sci-Fi movies, she is more Casablanca and Gone with the Wind, so I had to use all the hypnotic tricks like "it will be an unique experience", "trust me, this will be memorable", "you will be changed for life!"; and then after the movie, we didn't talk ONE word about, I was so embarrassed, like farting in a museum. Just walked away, and talked about everything except the movie.

But then, whatever I visit on internet, only positive reviews, its worrisome.

You made grand mistakes here. The fact that you praise something before you even watched the movie, will often shoot in to your own face. Now when you are watching whit mentality, I'm gonna give something to remember to my gf. Now this is completely gamling whit low changes as you knew it would not be Casablanca. Very important lesson, first watch a movie for yourself! Everytime I go to movies, I try to empty my mind from all distractions SPECIALLY who aim watching whit! I'm watching it 'alone' and unminded of what the other person will like it and what we will probably talk about later. This is quite important to have fresh experience. Having own neutral expectations is hard, sometimes even impossible in titles as Star Wars.

Not a single SW had a great plot but it's originaly idea whit interesting characters and classic good vs evil battle in mind, hearts and at space.. New characters could have been more interesting but in all fairness, Luke was not that interesting in ep IV, a peasant whit a lightsaber In the end, movies job is only to entertain you. Did ep7 do that? In my mind, it did and so think many others. The flight was just enjoyable enough that in the end, I can forgive it's failures. I give the new star wars movie a score of 7.

I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

Atmosphere & Special Effects were superb. Not recklessly overdone. Beautiful scenery. Especially the scene where Starkiller base was firing, and it was reflected in the general's eyes as he looked up. Wonderful.

Actors were excellent.

Dialogue was excellent.

Element of mystery. This is a staple to Abrams' movies, which annoys some people, but I love how we're not actually told everything. A lot of movies are quasi-documentary in how thoroughly they fill you in. We almost see the movie through the eyes of Rey, whose an ignorant scavenger that needs to piece the galaxy together as she goes. She doesn't understand the politics or the geography or much of anything else.

Mild room for improvement: the soundtrack was good, but could have been better. The brief scene with the Rathgar's wasn't very memorable (though I love when they went into warp drive and it was ripped apart on the windshield)

I've seen it in the theater 3 times, and I gradually liked it more with each new time I saw it. At this point, I think the movie might be slightly better than A New Hope (though not Empire Strikes Back, which is a phenomonal movie. We'll have to wait and see how well the next episode delivers).

No, and no, lol.
I agree with most of the criticism made by Sal and Stevie but disagree that the movie is a failure, to be honest I quite enjoyed it. My feelings are akin to Corribus's ones, and I had the same rating in mind after I've seen it (6/10). I plan to go see it a second time, further visualisations usually clear out things for me, when I'm mixed as now.
I predict VIII will be either much better or completely out of touch.

Okay I have to return on my comments because I just watched it again in streaming (you want the link, you PM me lol).

This time I was objective and not expecting to die in front of. So, while on the bottom I still think that this episode sucks at plot originality, characters casting, characters chemistry, my feelings about the SW atmosphere and special effects are not that bad. It's a great SW show, which also shows that when you have so much money to put in, it can't go the wrong way. I would give a 8/10 for the SHOW then 3/10 for SW content.

Show  - check

Promising characters - check

Returning old characters - check

Neat effects without a whole lot of CG - check

SW atmosphere - check

Opens up the way for sequels - check

I admit it was not original but I don't think anyone claims that. And didn't they try that with those prequels already ?

So, 9/10.

Just to be clear, the Original Trilogy is still my preferred Star Wars, but that don't mean I have to hate on this one, or Clone Wars, or exaggerate the hate on the prequels.

I've also seen it with my girlfriend, she strongly disliked it (she loves the original trilogy), while I'm more like on the same page with Corribus and Galaad.

- There were too many plot similarities with the original trilogy. At some point, it started to feel like a remake rather than a sequel. Even something like Han Solo's death reminded of the Obi-wan scene with almost identical elements: Young Jedi watching self-sacrifice and old loved one/new Sith villain kills role model.

- There was always a Nazi reference with the Empire, the soldiers were even called stormtroopers. But this time they overdid it. Maybe, they thought the audience of 2015 wouldn't get it as easy as the audience of 1977. For whatever reason, the flags and the frantic "Hitler speech" was over the top.

- Another thing they overdid was the personification of the droids. It's one thing to make R2 D2 beep a little like a dog, another thing to give them completely pet-like body language. What's next, are the droids going to pee on the carpet.

- CGI was balanced, the u-turn to rusty, worn-out objects and decor once again from the shiny but lifeless atmosphere of the prequels was one of the best decisions.

- Harrison Ford still pulled off a charismatic Han Solo but Carrie Fisher displayed as less emotion as a deep-freezed tuna fish. It seems like she has lost the ability to act completely. Botox face?

- In the original trilogy, the Force was presented as something deep, something that takes time and wisdom to grasp. This time it feels like some kind of psychic power rather than a greater spiritual dimension. (Well, they ruined the concept with midichlorians anyway.)
In the past, even the lightsaber scenes reminded us of a samurai ritual that required great patience to master. And now, a stormtrooper and a rookie (not even that) dueling the new prodigy of the Sith with zero experience? Did they really need to put in a sword fight so desperately.

- Darth Vader was cool. New dark knight trashing switchboards and screaming like a whiny kid was not cool.

- The dialogue seemed a little forced to sound trendy and young but it wasn't as horrible as the prequels.

Overall, I don't think this will ever have the effect on the new generation like the originals had on ours (people who were kids in the late seventies and eighties) but that's not something justified to expect, anyway.

And Blizz, I told you that cross-guard saber was going to suck big time.
