Makes no sense - Qui Gon Ginn went there randomly, at a random time and met the kid even more randomly. Even if you factor in force visions it would be a very long shot to plan and it would have undoubtedly been vague as hell. And even if that were the case, Lucas would have seized the opportunity for dramatic effect. But really, after Vader's revelation this one would have fallen flat.

Yeah it's a bit weak and it only works if you accept that Palpatine is that much of a mastermind to predict EVERYTHING.

I hope Rey is not Palpatine's granddaughter. I hope she's not related to anyone that is known.
When we say the poster for Episode VII it hinted that Finn was going to be the new Jedi something that I like very much since it guaranteed new blood. With the reveal that Rey is actually the new Jedi everyone has gone nuts about who her parents are. Please let them be nobodies. Not everyone needs to related in Star Wars.

Furthermore, can I just say how much I snowing love Rey?
She so goddamn cool and she is everything that Anakin should have been in the prequels. Can't wait to see more of her.
The best part about Episode VII was definitely the new characters. Finn was extremely lovable as well, and I liked the chemistry between him and Rey. Such instant friendship, no silly and forced banter, just two youngsters that see the universe with new eyes for the first time. Also, BB-8

I thought the background lore stated that Darth Plageous the Wise was experimenting with midichlorians (as also told by Darth Sidious to Anakin, during the opera) and that one of his test subjects - unbeknownst to herself - was actually Schmi Skywalker. Hence the statement "there is no father", since Darth Plageous caused the conception through Force manipulation from the shadows.

That Qui-Gon Jin comes there is the will of the Force. Qui-Gon even states as such before the council where he introduces Anakin, if I remember the council session correctly. He mentions how his meeting with Anakin was no coincedence.

So Plagueis did his mumbo jumbo on Schmi having guessed that the force will lead Qui Gon around that exact spot in several years and that he would have reason to meet and socialize with the kid enough to sense how force sensitive it was? And did he try that with Anakin only? No other force experiments?

Actually, how old was the prophecy of the chosen one?

We still don't know that Finn isn't a force user as well, and is the illegitimate grandson of Mace Windu, or the child of Lando

As far as I know, Darth Plageous was researching means to lengthen life time and thereby prevent death to his loved ones, essentially to live eternally. He got killed by Darth Sidious (his apprentice, a.k.a. Palpatine) in his sleep before he could complete his research.

I doubt he had planned for Anakin to even be born, let alone to be left astray on Tatooine; it might very well be that if he had completed his research, he would have killed Schmi to hide his tracks, while still being pregnant.

It wasn't Darth Plageous who wanted Anakin to be found; it was the living Force who guided Qui-Gon Jin to Anakin. In that light, the Force is considered pretty much a living entity, who strives for balance. With the Light Side dominating for a thousand years and the Dark Side lurking hidden in the shadows, it finally made sure Anakin was found, to bring balance to the Force by destroying the Light Side for the most part.

Like a pendulum, it swung too far and Luke Skywalker was then the result to bring the Light Side back, pushing the Dark Side away again. After Return of the Jedi, the Force is mostly absent from active presence for most of the inhabitants of the galaxy: no Jedi Knights, no Sith Lords, etc ..., just Luke and the few Force-sensitives he tried to train - which fails and results in Kylo Ren, among other things.

The whole balance thing makes no sense. If that really was the goal it should have probably been more.. balanced? In both cases it went from one extreme to the other, which is meaningless with a viewpoint of balance.

The whole thing sounds like something Lucas came up with to sound kool but wasn't really thought through.

Not big into starwars lore or anything, but the last time I was searching for videos on Starwars conspiracies it was centered around Jar-Jar being a Sith Lord

I was sold on it! Maybe because I wanted it to be true...but if he was in league with Palpatine it suggested that JarJar was the reason why they went to tatoowine (probably butchered that) and he was the reason why they explored the planet and took Padame with them.

Of course that raises more questions

Speaking of the "Rey is Palpie's granddaughter" theory, here are some of my points that question this theory. First of all - there is no way one can inherit their moveset through genetics. Secondly, Rey doesn't know Snoke, so his voice would be unrecognizable to her. Thirdly, accent is not inherited through genetics, either. It depends on an environment where you are raised. Fourthly, Rey could have seen Ahch-to through a Force vision, just like Anakin saw Shmi and Padme die. Fifthly, Rey also hears Yoda and Obi-wan Kenobi. Does it me she is also related to them? Sixthly, Luke's vision was haunted because of his previous experience with Kylo Ren. He had tried to train more Jedi and he failed, thus it isn't surprising that he may be apprehensive about trying again to do so.

The last issue with this theory is that it would need quite a lot of exposition. Not only Palpatine's parentage would have to be outlined, but the same process would have to be repeated for his potential child. The vast majority of moviegoers would be confused by this idea.

Pawek I dont know if Rey is related to anybody,  but your reasons are so shoddy It's about foreshadowing in the script. Rey fighting like Palpatine is a literacy device. So is maybe the accents. The characters are plucked from all across the Galaxy and some of them talk like Americans and some of them talk like Brits. What connection does that have with a galaxy that takes place millions of years before Earth in another part of the universe? Nothing. They're not going to invent new accents for the actors to try to imitate, and it would be too surreal if they did. But for two relatives,  it would add dissonance for the audience if they had two completely different accents. It's a meta issue.  It would be like if Darth Vader talked like a Frenchman and Luke was this random American boy. It wouldn't flow as well.

It would also be cool story-wise. A light Skywalker battles a dark Palpatine and then the next generation,  a light Palpatine battles a dark Skywalker.

You don't need to hog too much screen time explaining it. Palpatine had a kid while ruling the Galaxy as emperor,  but he's a Sith and he doesn't care about heirs or family. They were cast aside.

This thread already exist. Perhaps merge it with the already existing  Star Wars Speculation thread. Alternatively I suggest perhaps move this one to the wasteland so it doesn't take from the much more awesome already existing thread made by the much more awesome homer171.

Edit: Wait a moment, you've been driving for 14 years? How is that even possible?
