Thanks for your post FfuzzyLogik.
Yeah some of my posts in this thread are quite old and I figured most of it out by now, for example the war machines and spells.
Yeah Mass Haste, Slow, Bless and Curse are extremely strong and cheap as level 1 spells. What I did was make them cost 9 mana at expert and Haste went down from +5 -> +4 and Slow from -50% -> -40% and they are still very strong, but a bit more reasonable.

What about, if HotA change mass spells and seperate them from normal spells, like was in H2, H4, H5.
This we could make Mass Slow/Haste/Bless/Curse at higher levels of magic.

That would be a good idea imo.
I guess they should be level 3 spells then, otherwise Stronghold and Fortress can't get them in their mage guilds.

Does anyone know where to change the text of "Week of the..." and "Month of the..."?
I suppose it's in a txt file somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

do you remember that cost of spells is modified based on school level?
it was like -0/-1/-2/-3 ... and guess what? they can be edied separately in sptraits file ! so you can get in example -0/-1/-2/+12 for haste (so it would be more costly for mass haste). I hope I helped

Does anyone know how to work with DefPreview and H3DefTool?
I am experimenting with changing some of the heroes' specialities and I can change the speciality and the text of it, just need to figure out how to change the icon of the heroes' specialities...
(The pics for the specialities are located in HotA.lod and are called un32.def and un44.def)

With Def preview you open def, click on the frame you want to replace, then you click 'add' icon to choose and replace bitmap.

I write from the memory. I'm not at home now so I might miss with the software with MMA archive. Ok, now I've got it. With the def tool you extract all the frame and def list. Next open def maker, then click load .hdl file. Then only you must replace BMP frame and click generate def or sth similar.

In Era is called def editor. You need both, one for extracting frames, the second for repacking them back once you are done with editing.

It seems that hota does not change the necromancy values in the exe.
the values that are on the offset adresss are 10, 20, 30... but in game it functions like 5, 10, 15... so how did they change necromancy values if not in the exe file?

Yes, I did check that many times.. what i see is:
00 00 00 00 CD CC CC 3D CD CC 4C 3E 9A 99 99 3E
that section in code with all those secondary skills is exactly same in heroes3.exe and hota.exe

Probably overwritten by hota.dll during launch. You'll need a custom patch to change it to something else.
EDIT: or you can simply change the Necromancy % pointer to the one from Logistics which is still 10/20/30 if that's what you want.

Yes, that is what I plan to do, change it back to 10,20,30. Could someone explain how to change the pointer?

AlexSpl said: I think, yes. This and many other fixes are possible with patcher_x86 by baratorch.
How? How do you use the patcher_x86.dll to make changes? Pleaase elaborate.
