Dear RoseKavalier!

Unfortunately, I do not know how to change the special abilities of the units, so I change the units. :-) (0x6747B4)

The Wood Elf is on the map building. (Elf house)
The Grand Elf is not on the map building.
The neutral Sharpshooter is on the map building. (Treetop tower)

If the Grand Elf is replaced by the Sharpshooter, the Grand Elf will be neutral.
Then the Wood Elf will be on the map building. (Elf house)
Then the Sharpshooter will be on the map building. (Treetop tower)
The neutral Grand Elf, however, will not be on the map building.

How could it be set up to allow an upgraded unit to be built on the map?

Unit types as integer for specific dwellings are in array at 0x63D570.

For HotA, *(int*)0x4B85A3.

However there's a catch, they are ordered by dwelling id, not unit id (why 3DO, why?). Look at Creature Generators (index -> Creature Dwellings (Generators)).

There's probably more stuff to change, like unit town affiliation etc. One step at a time...

I have a suggestion for you, Peter.
You can just change the "look and abilities" of creatures to "switch them" ?

Step 1 : For swapping them on map and battlefield :
So upgraded elf will be switched by sharpshooter skin : extract the .def files (AvW one who is the one on minimap and C... one who is the look in fight).

Step 2 : If you want it be "perfect" you'll have to change this too :
You'll have to remake the .def for mini and micro icons of creatures (when you get them in army) and the one when you got them figting on minimap too.

Step 3 : For special abilitites :
After that, you change abilities and here maybe someone like a knight may help you to find how/where sharpshooter's special ability is stored. So then, you can try to give to ancient "grand elves" the sharpshooter's ability if its what you want... On this thread there is indicated where "shoots twice" is made and you can hex edit it if you want.

If you want help to do this I can try to give a hand.
I suggest you think about "all modifications" you wanna do to not have to change them too often. So then you make one time the change on mini and micro icons...


Even if I'm not very active since a moment du to lack of time, I continue slowly my tries.
I still find "might" a bit overpowered and its due to the bonuses of attack and defense primary skills.
So I was thinking about changing the +5% damage per difference between attack and opponent's defence by 3%.
So to speack simply, a hero with 10 more attack will do 30% more damage and not 50%.
Same thing in defense who decreases (to a minimum of 70% of initial damage) by 2,5% every difference between ennemy attack and your defense (if you got more). I thought about a 2%.

It would be great if someone can help me to find these values (to change them).

The diplomacy patch gives 25% of troops joins rouded up or down ? I haven't tested it now but I'm very intrested in...

0x63B8C0 ~ 2.5%
0x63B8B8 ~ 30% minimum limit

0x63AC58 ~ 5%
0x63AC28 ~ 300% maximum limit

Diplo: integer division rounds down, with a max(x,1) factor it ensures the number of joiners is at least 1.

Argh very sorry to not remember Alexspl did talk about that ! But you teach to me there is a maximum bonus of +300%. Hard to get it anyways +60 of attack to defense is quite high difference ^^

For exemple how do know that the values to Magic Chanel from Familiars are located in 0x0?????  
How do you find all these usefull values. Is it a tool/program? Or did you learn a way to find them?

I posted this somewhere previously in this thread but too lazy to dig through 20+ pages.

I am using OllyDbg but any disassembler will do. You need to learn Assembly to make any sense of what will be shown in the disassembler. After a while, you can figure out what various functions do and then you can try to find your way around.
There are a few resources available for H3 specifically on Russian forums but if you don't understand Assembly they are next to useless. WoG source code is also a good place to look.

It's not impossible to do, I started about a year ago with 0 knowledge. Not gonna lie, it's still difficult now.

Hi guys!

Dunno if there is actually a balance thread about Hota, if its the case please link to me.

I'm just thinking about how bad Fortress is in comparison of other factions. I just want to make it slightly better.
So I'm gonna buff a little that Chaos Hydras! (one of the weak spot of Fortress imho)
1- They are slow by design and background (H2!), so no change on speed
2- Since they are slow, they need to be more resilient.
3- Also high toughness is a peculiarity of Fortress.

So my proposal is:

+ Chaos Hydra health points increased to 300 from 250.

What do you think guys of this balance attempt?

Personally I always wanted Fortress to have Mage Guild level 4, would help out witches a lot.

Hello zaibach!

I think that Fortress is not the Weakest town of Hota but the Strongest...

Maybe Lizard Warriors could get a little Bonus but
Tazar, Gorgognes and Hydras can destroy every single army by themthelves
So I think Fortress doesn't need a BUFF but rather a NERF...

PS: Fortress is my main Town



 ...To change Creatures stats you only have to modify CRTRAITS from H3Bitmap.lod whith MMArchive and TextEdit

I was looking for Pegasus Magic Damper (02), and Wraiths Mana Drain (02), so another time I need your help ^^

Also, I know where Artefeact are stored in Hota.exe, but it seems like we are only abble to change theirs primary skills values...
 Att Def Pow Kno    02 02 02 02     03 03 03 03    04 04 04 04

So how to change other values? for exmeple Boots of polarity ads 15% Magic Resistance, but there is no:  9A 99 19 3E.

Are all Artefacts not Hex editable ?

Good to know. I'm not very expert of pro games of Heroes, just thought Fortress was the worst faction and Hydras too bad with that 7 speed. Would be cool to hear other people expert to multiplayers games. I could reconsider my position on Fortress with a bit of explanation.

What do you mean by "search in .DLL"
I try to see  into .DLL  but it Doesn't work with Microsoft Visual C++.

Of course, it's exacly what I would like to do,  find values by myself....

New question: is possible to reduce Kinkeria bonus to Leaening? Because right now my Learning is modded at 45% at expert but with Kinkeria doubling Learning as her speciality would reach 90% and this is too much... I would prefear her bonus to be like 50% of Learning instead of double...

It's modified by dll. Here's a hex hack to get around it:
0x4E4B0C
D8 0D 58 EB 63 00 D8 05 E0 B6 63 00 89 EC 5D C3

What it does:

HotA first doubles your % bonus (x).
x -> 2x

Now it multiplies by 75%:
2x -> 1.5x

Effectively 50% bonus.

I have to say thanks for everything. Particulary to Maurice, Alex, and RoseKavalier For giving your help to a lot of people.

I´ve been abble to change so many things in this special game following your intructions.  It becomes better and better through weeks, and even through years like a good wine.

You know that my ultimate goal, is to make this game the more balanced possible.
The bigest part is to balance Might and Magic.

Might heroes becomes quickly stronger than Magic Heroes.  This is what I want to work on.

First of all by changing Spells.   I would like so much to remove all Mass effect of the game.
It makes basic spells like Slow or Haste, critical spells, it's to strong, they become almost the best Spells, and it's so easy to get even for Might Heroes. So it's a Big Advantage for them.

My suggestion is simple. Remove every Mass effect to theses spells:  Slow, Bless, Haste, Mirth, Bloodlust, Carapace, Guerison, Dispel, Protection from, Prayer, etc....
I would like to change area effect like this:

Basic:            -   Single target
Advenced:     -   1 square zone effect (like Fireball)
Master:          -   2 squares zone effect (like Inferno)

This should make the game way more strategic, because, 2 Creatures to much separated couldn't  be affacted by the same spell anymore.  That change everything.... positionning nicely your troops will be impérative

Is it Hex editable? I don't know...
But there is more than 20 mass effect spells. So it will need a lot of work.  Maybe simple, but long to do..



And finaly, after Spells there are Artefacts...
Only 2 artefacts are Overpowered to Mighty Heores, everybody know them, and everybody fear them when playing a Mage...  

Orb of inhibition    &    Recanters Cloak

These tow artefacts totaly change battle process and make Magic heroes totaly weak or  useless.  These artefacts are To strong...   tow choises.  Disabled them From Hota or create Plug-in to make them last only 3 turns maximum!

I don't know if it's possible.  But my mom says sometimes "Everything's possible"  ^^
