Please specify if you are planning on using plugins (HDmod 5.19 or less) or hex edit.

If it's the latter, I can already tell you that the answer will be no, it's not possible 80+ % of the time.

I am not using plug-ins, both because newer versions of HD Mod does'nt support them and because I don't really know how.
Yeah I figured it would be pretty hard without plug-ins, it would just be nice if heroes like Inteus, Ash, Darkstorn and those damn druids could actually use their specials...

I guess it is not a bug, but a feature. But for some reason you can equip a +knowledge artifact, refill mana, take the artifact off, but KEEP the bonus mana. Would it be possible to only get the knowledge bonus when actually wearing the artifact? I think it is like this in newer versions of Heroes too and it makes the most sense to me.

Why would you want to change that? I realise you can abuse it, but as far as I know, whenever you refilled your mana, the game would only consider the Knowledge score at the time of refilling and not how it changes afterwards. What you're proposing it to top it off to the maximum allowed by considering the Knowledge score at any given time. While logical in a way, it does change a game mechanic.

It does change a game mechanic, but it makes more sense to me this way. Knowledge artifacts only need to be worn, when refilling mana and the Thunder Helmet you should avoid having on at all, unless you refill mana. Titan's Cuirass you should NOT wear when refilling mana, it just creates a lot of unnecessary management and besides why do you get to keep the bonus when you remove the helmet? You won't get bonus to attack, if you throw your sword away either...

And as many things can "doble your mana pool" it will be quite problematic to change this mechanic.
But maybe something like "at start of turn, if you don't have enough knowlege, you loose all excedent of mana" may be intresting... But how to do it without plugin... I don't have half of an idea...

The problem with Titan's Cuirass and Thunder Helmet is they are supposed to be +8 artifacts, since they both have a +10 and a -2 to stats. However the -2 can be completely ignored, since you can equip and "de-equip" them when you need it. This actually makes these artifacts +10, while they were only supposed to be +8.
Another thing is the armor slot: The two best armors are the Dragon Scale Armor (+4 attack and +4 defense) and Titan's Cuirass (+10 power and -2 knowledge, making it +8 or +10 as we established before.)
This means that the Titan's Cuirass is superior to Dragon Scale Armor at +10, while they would be equal at +8. It's much more interesting as +8 I think, giving you a choice of going with the Dragon Scale Armor or Titan's Cuirass. One might make most sense for a might hero, the other most for a magic hero.

I considered adding Armageddon's Blade artifact to my map, but for it to be balanced I would have to remove the immunity to Armageddon, is this possible? I would also like it to give you Armageddon at "unskilled" level, not at expert level if possible.

I would like to disable the 'Cover of Darkness' building from ever being able to be built permanently (not using map editor every time).

Is there a way to do this with hex editing or if that's not possible then remove the ability to shroud the map or reduce it radius to like 5 or 10 to just cover the castle area.  

As is it I just don't play with Necropolis anymore cause that building destroys my enjoyment of game!

Any help would be appreciated

Also, I was able to change secondary skills of hero's using hex editor following the guide but I don't see where you can change the specialty of hero in the guide.  

Is this possible?

Instead here is the # for radius of Cover of Darkness:
0x4C78D5
Current radius 14h = 20

The same value is also at 0x4A11B3, but I think this might be for multiplayer. Go ahead and check which does the job for your needs.

Thanks for help but what file should I edit for that cover of darkness offset?  H3Hota.exe only goes to around 0x2afff0

When he writes 0x4..... you actually need to subtract 400000 so it becomes 0x0..... I can't really explain why.

I can. When the game is loaded into memory, it reserves the space from address 0x400000 onwards and loads the exe into it. Hence, the offset.

One thing that always bothered me about Conflux, is how most of their creatures are immune to Fire Magic, it's nice being immune to Armageddon, but being immune to nearly every other Fire spell is annoying.

If possible I would like for Fire and Energy Elemental:
* To NOT be immune to Fire Magic. (Other elementals are not immune to their schools either.)  
* They should of course remain Elemental, meaning being immune to Mind Spells, having no morale etc.
* Still be immune to Fire Damage Spells, Fire Wall, Fireball, Land Mine, Inferno and Armageddon, but NOT Magic Arrow, other elementals are not immune to it either.

For Firebird and Phoenix:
* To NOT be immune to Fire Magic.
* To become immune to Mind Spells. (Not to become Elemental, just become immune to Mind Spells, like Giants and Titans.)
* Still be immune to Fire Damage Spells, Fire Wall, Fireball, Land Mine, Inferno and Armageddon, but NOT Magic Arrow, as they are no longer immune to Fire Magic.

The above change would make Fire Magic more useful, especially playing as or against Conflux.
I would really appreciate it if it can be done.

If you can't achieve what you're asking for with creature flags then you need a plugin.

Yeah sorry about that, when I first asked about Firebirds I wanted to change them back from what HotA did.
I realised that what I really want is for Fire Magic to be useful for and against Conflux.
That useless hero Inteus with speciality Bloodlust, would be nice if it worked on Fire/Energy Elementals and Firebird/Phoenixes.
Slayer and Fire Shield (and Protection From Fire, to protect against Magic Arrow) would also work, while they on the other hand could be affected by Magic Arrow, Curse and Misfortune, over all making Fire Magic better for and against Conflux.

Or else forget about the Firebirds, if that makes things easier.

But perhaps it's not possible without plug-ins?
