The HotA.dll is in the same folder as the HotA.dat o.O

Oh sorry, I found it now. I thought it would be indexed as a .dll file, but it was listed as a program extension.
Now to find that text string...

Edit: Found it and tested it and it works perfectly.
The string starts at 00152640.

No, but I sorted the files by type and it did'nt show any .dll files, but apparently it was listed as a program extension, so no problem.

That must be a Win10 feature. If my files are not shown as a detailed list, I start panting and have to lie down on the floor and count to 10 to settle me down. I pity you.

I think we have talked about it before, but is it possible to change Wizard's Well so it gives no bonus at all (only the saved space when assembled) or a lower bonus like +10% mana? (In addition to the 6 mana from the normal artifacts.)

Hello everyone.

I have a few ideas that I don't know how to implement that I'd like some help with. I want to:

-Make it so that each hero type is limited to a certain number of magic schools. For example, Knight/Barbarian>1, Alchemist/Battle Mage>2, Wizard/Warlock>4.

-Duration of spells determined by school level Bas>1/Adv>3/Exp>5. Not by Power.

-Power increases effect of certain spells like Stone Skin, Haste, etc by half of itself. For example, Hero with 10 Power casts Stone Skin with its effect increased +5.

-Tent casts Cure. I thought of replacing the Water Elementals spell casting through hex editing so that Tent casts Cure, would that work?

-Knowledge increases mana regeneration by its number. Example, 10 Knowledge= +10 mana regen.

-Sorcery increases Hypnotize, Resurrection, Animate Dead, Sacrifice (Maybe?)

I decided to disable the bonus, the only thing it does now is save space in the inventory, but that makes Intelligence and Mysticism more useful and interesting.

Noted, but if I keep doing that, his QPs will approach his number of posts in the long run . I try to use QPs sparingly, not dispense them like candy during Halloween .

While I appreciate the nomination, I agree with Maurice on this, there really wasn't much quality to that post or even that much work - besides I've already gotten one QP for continued support in this very thread. Still, thanks for your message.

0) by "some help with" what exactly do you mean
1) is this HotA?
2) do you feel like using plugins? cos you gonna have a bad time if the answer is no.

Also...

I don't really understand what Water Eles have to do with Tents. Tents don't cast spells, they roll a dice to figure out how much hp is restored.

Opening those spells to Sorcery would also open them up to Orb of Silt/ ... / +50% bonus. That's the way the function is coded.

What about Haste at power level 99? Should a Peasant really be faster than Phoenix?
There was a "similar" take on balancing spells in that their duration was cut down instead.

Well RoseKavalier, by "some help" I mean that I want to know if any of this is possible. I only know how to edit txt files and hex editing the exe a little, although I can learn of course...I would just like to know if its very complicated. I play single player random maps on HOTA and I usually just use the basic templates, so I don't think I'll ever get to 99 Power heh. Also this is part of a pretty thorough change to many things including creatures, spells, secondary skills, heroes...anything that can be changed by txt or hex. At least for now.

From what I've read in this thread, plugins don't work on the latest version of HD. So I guess I'd have to get the older version to use them. But I like the changes in HOTA, so I don't know.

And finally, about the Tents: I thought, since they're also creatures, I would be able to use the space allocated to the Ice Elementals spell in the exe and replace with the tent casting Cure. I got that idea from something I had read earlier about changing the creatures abilities, but now I realize it wasn't talking about hex editing. So I guess it's not  possible.

Hi guys, how's it going?

I was wondering if it could be possible to make a certain change on HotA, although perhaps what I'm gonna explain should belong in ERA world:

I'd like to mod the creatures' speed value so they all are much closer to each other, just like it happens in H2. However, I don't want flying creatures to be that slow, and I don't want them to fly all over the place in a H2 fashion either. Instead, I want to make the ability "Flyer" grant those creatures an extra boost of movement BUT this boost mustn't be taken into account when calculating the turn order.

It's not exactly like generating a brand new attribute, separating movement and initiative, although I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me that this is actually easier to accomplish.

What do you think? Any tips? Have you heard of anyone trying this before?

If I find time and inspiration these days, I'll try it myself, and share the results.

Good evening Portus,
I truly find flying creatures are fast and increasing their speed will mean "shooter are quite useless" because they will be immediately engagned. You want them to get "same speed" but less initiative that's it ?

The problem, in H3 its not easily possible because the speed determines order creature plays... So if you want to change it you'll have to do alot of changes (quite impossible in hex). With some plugin who add for each creature a new characteristic stored somewhere will be "initiative" and "flyer" shall have "+3" may be an idea... But I can't help you to do a such thing.
And no never heared about this before. If you have attempts to show, I'd be pleased to hear about that.

Another one: do you think it is possible to make Townportal a spell like magic arrow and be affected by every magic school?

All magic schools should give effect like earth magic and in spell book it belongs to the school with the highest secondary.

When I play vs AI I cant bear to disable TP, but AI too rarely picks Earth Magic, also it forces me to pick Earth Magic every game.

btw sorry if these question have been asked before, I read quite a lot in this thread and could answer some things by myself. I saw there was talk of a guide but the link to the dropbox was down. Anyone still has this file by any chance?
