Who is this Marco you're refering to?

As long as there is someone willing to share information about the
game I'm willing to provide support.
As for the hex editing, I'd gladly turn some information about the .exe into an experimental setup or just for fiddling and trial and error.

Not sure what I could provide, my gaming buddy is fixed on the modd bc. of the skill system - I think the ultimates had its benefits but the new system is fine with me.

Have you tested your balancing in 5.5? I'd be interested to give it a try.

To prevent any people from doing unnecessary work moving stuff between game versions, I should reveal that a random generated user-configurable duel map template is currently WIP for next H55 release.

Marko is my invisible friend. Just kidding, he hasn't joined hc yet so his brilliance can only be felt indirectly. He just made chain lightning receive a dmg bonus when passing through arcane crystals

Since I'll be away for the next few days, I'm uploading the latest map and exe (30/09) for anyone who wants to give it a try

Notable changes:

- Empowered armageddon fixed so now it applies fire effects, it does not ignore warmachines and its meteor does physical damage in the center like the regular spell.

- Armageddon cost significantly lowered so you can throw 2-3 empowered ones if you have arcane training.

- Chain lightning that strikes an arcane crystal will not have its next jump reduced but instead boosted by 50%.

- Matriarchs(but not mistresses) get arcane crystal instead of RM. This will allow for more tactical play but also help setup chain lightning combo with the hero.

- High druids have channeling again, this time at +4 bonus.

- Offensive/defensive formation now available for all factions. Used to work for dwarves only.

- Runic machines is now in rulelore but will only appear if you have warmachines.

- Similarly, haven's retaliation strike(counterstrike racial) will unlock weakening strike but only if you have dark.

- Mountain guards have 'reinforcements'. When they attack an enemy stack, they will spawn a friendly guard stack of equal strength. Of course, the mountain guards are weaker than shieldguards to make up for the extra stack.

- Ghost dragon / death knight population slightly increased.



- Whip strike now afflicts enemies with slow, suffering and vulnerability(instead of frenzy) and also triggers a lot more often. Used by dungeon witches and necro's deathknights.

- Incorporeal mechanics tweaked. Still 50-50 but first is always miss, then hit, miss, hit etc. This is true for ghosts, rune of etherealness as well as phantom forces.

- Pit lords can no longer gate. Gating the original units plus the ones summoned from archdevils was nasty.

- Gated units start at 50% atb, at 25/30/35% stack strength. Swarming gate can increase gated stacks to 50%.

- Sprite's random caster(aka pixie dust) has swapped decay with wasp swarm for thematic reasons.

- Imbue ballista no longer resets hero turn.

- Heroes already start with their town's spells already learnt so no need to check the town's magic guild. Recommended order is to visit all shrines and then check spellbook, will save you a lot of time.

Following a period of serious personal issues that are slowly being resolving, I am beginning to work on the next version little by little.

HARDCODED CHANGES:

- Chain lightning can now stun all struck targets with master of lightning. Stun-stun-stun!

- Chilling bones has been upgraded to 15%(from 5%). Currently unlocked by master of ice and renamed to Frost Armour since it's no longer unique to necro.

- Hellfire now works for both attacks and retaliations. Cost from 4 to 3.

- Fear and bear roar now halve enemy atb(instead of reset to 0%).

- Counterspell now costs 150% of base mana instead of 200%. A little more viable.

- Mass spells now cost 80% atb from previous 90%.

REGULAR CHANGES:

Spells

- Divine Vengeance multiplier toned down from 1.8 to 1.6.

Skills

- Tactics back in offense so that inferno, dungeon and necro have easier access to it. It unlocks offensive formation.

- Hero strike tree(powerful blow-> stunning -> excruciating) moved to bloodrage.

- Mark of the damned restored to gating.

- Leadership tree streamlined. Divine guidance -> empathy / retribution

- Plague tent now necro unique.

- Might over magic now unlocks Corrupt Dark(35%) to help orcs against dark magic.

- Orcs +1 spellpower so that might over magic gives -2 spellpower with just 1 spellpower from arties(or -3 with 3 spellpower).

Units

- Treachery removed from upgraded goblins.

- Ballista +2 shots.



Some new changes:

- The game is back to one class per faction and I am instead trying to give the tools to pursue might or magic gameplay in alternative ways. Inferno seducers for instance now get channeling so if you want to go destructive, this succubus is your girl.

- Gating a little tweaked, also inferno leadership now leads to swift gating or gate master. I felt like neither retribution nor empathy felt proper demon skills and if I added them to gating then everyone would always pick.

- Tap runes is back to runelore since the mana gain is no longer an issue with 20/30/30/20 stats. And dwarves get an innate +50% fire dmg so they should be fine with their medium spellpower.

- Both titans have the ability to use call lightning and storm.



- Battle frenzy -> power of speed -> teleport assault for inferno, dungeon and academy.

- Necro also gets access to power of speed. Not for thematic but gameplay reasons.

- Now dungeon is hurt by wol but completely immune to cotn! This was done by giving them demonic status(which incidentally does not make them immune to succubi chain shot) and renaming it to dark alignment.

- Haven now has 0% destructive chance since there is no magic class anymore.

- Inferno, academy and Dungeon are now the only factions with access to armageddon mainly because it was broken at the hands of fortress. Should be noted that academy no longer has access to resistance mini arties.

- Wraiths now have both harm touch and death wail. More flexible.

- Angels have been merged: They now have both rez allies and DV, damage tweaked to 45-55.

- Alt succubi get 10 init to better support channeling.

- Mountain guards now also have shield wall but are the 'offensive' upgrade. Hp 12->10 and attack 4->10. They lose 'reinforcements' as the random spawning location was problematic.

- Removed prayer and banshee howl from priests and liches. DV also removed from zealots since it's been moved back to angels.



- Prayer/Howl/Consume corpse/Banish now cost 50% atb. Prayer and howl back to knight and necromancer respectively.

- Griffin battle dive 150% from 200%.

- Defile magic can no longer block enemy spells completely.

- Artificial glory now also adds +2 morale to mechanical units. (Sadly not to wm)

- Archdevils can both summon pitlords and pull closer units within 5 tiles.

I watched some of your fights via youtube, I like esports and it's nice to see there is a comunity still active even if the game was released many years before.
Great job with the guides, I read them to play on heroic difficulty, it would be great to give my own contribution in the future.

Thank you. The community being active is a bit of an exaggeration but yeah, some people are still around H5 is a bit too niche for an esport so maps like arena or this are the closest we can get.

Welcome! I dare note that you have a penchant for elaborate names.

Though good programmers are better served by a penchant for simplicity.

Regarding the duels, there may be the possibility to add a proper tournament mode to H5 natively, so that you don't need to resort to forum posts or email for match-making and sorting out the winner. Naturally it would require a clean solution for the desired modifications. It is too early to speak, but it seemed worth mentioning to celebrate the occasion.

It doesn't work with H5.5 sadly. H5.5 breaks the map's scripts and there are a number of changes compared to both 3.1 and 5.5. But if you've installed H5.5 and have kept a copy of the original 3.1 game folders it will work just fine. If not.. you'd probably have to reinstall H5, copy the game's folder and install H5.5 to one of the two.

I checked the map and exe link and it works fine for me. Just click that you are not a robot and download both links If you want to do a test drive a little later, I'll happily play a practice match to help you get started.

Good to know about 5.5. And I know this is going to sound strange but when I open that link I keep running into the same weird problem. I can download the heroes 5 exe file no problem, however when I click the link to download the tactical map file nothing happens, or rather it seems to attempt to download it but nothing actually goes through so to speak, strange.

What browser are you using? I think some configuration causes the map to be downloaded in pieces, like an unpacked rar.

Just tried with chome and it downloads normally. Maybe try a different browser? But if you get one you should be getting the other too.
