Welfare exploits
Here's a funny little story.
I know a "clever" Pole who obtained social security numbers in one of the EU countries (I don't remember which one), and knows the language well enough.
Basically, he goes to that EU country and gets a job - any job, janitor, dishwasher - doesn't matter. He slacks off, lies and screws up everything for half a year, then he gets fired, but that's just enough to get enrolled for a welfare check for unemployed people.
Obtaining that, he goes back to Poorland and lives like a king for half a year - that's how long the welfare lasts. He gets over 1000$ per month. In Pooland, that's a VERY GOOD salary that usually is related to IT and programming. Other branches can't get you this much if you're a regular employee, not a big manager.
And then he repeats the cycle.
...
Fun, eh? When we say "inequality", we think US and Africa or something, but the countries in question are both members of the European Union.
SIGH. And I'm supposed to "give it all" in my work earning 600 dollars per month? Is this some kind of a joke?

I don't believe this about you, but if someone is truly without moral and only care about money, I'd let them live the life they so choose. It's apparently what makes them happy, and in the big picture it's not important enough to care about.

yeah, it's the same old story, but this method was a shock to me. i wasn't even aware that you can cheat like that.
The question is: what can one think about several hours of boring job each day if you can just live like that? What value does a "job" have in this mockery of a country, exactly? They say, focus on your work, be effective. Why? Why would I even feel motivated if I know that someone lies on his butt for 6 months and still gets twice as much as I do - and he's not even an American or German or such, but a "poor Pole" like me?

Yes, such issues are the reason of increasing xenophobia and nationalism in "rich" EU countries. But also shows that, since borders are non existent, anyone with a real motivation for working hard and honest can get a decently payed work, then keep it if interested.
That's why I will never understand your constant whining about.

Oh, I'm trying, trust me, but I have to earn enough money first to even afford to move.
I'm trying visa lotteries nowadays, but only US has a simple one, and it's luck based 
But that's not the problem here. On an individual basis, I can move (eventually) to a better country, sure. But on a global basis? It's not like the "richer" Western Europe can accommodate all of the poor Eastern Europe inhabitants. Those people have to stay where they were born, and work for that pitiful amount of money... among people who exploit richer countries and get twice as much for doing nothing. How can one find any motivation with such knowledge, at all? It's not just about me. It's pretty much about everybody unlucky enough to be from Eastern Europe.
I guess that those people are fairly calm and motivated mostly because they are unaware of such things.

I don't think you have first to learn enough money. We get millions of arabs/africans coming here with 0 euros in pockets then exploiting the system and people generosity (stupidity in my views). For example, last year I had one polish student, Barbara, she got her student papers, then applied for a work, and now she manages to work half year in France, then the other half year in Poland. She can be both student at University then be teacher for kids, then the minimum wages here are 1300 or so. And yes, she had to move her ass a bit then force the fate, but from her results, I am quite positive. And she is not a genius, just a hard working teen.

I'd have 3 times more reasons to complain, if you get what I mean. Yet I don't. And it's not because I feel okay about it, on the contrary actually. I'm just not the type to whine about it.

Sal - I have a lot of stuff that I'm attached to. Getting that stuff transported ... well, let's just say it's not exactly cheap.
I could move on without it, but... I just can't. Maybe it's silly, but I'm a very sentimental person.
If things go well, I should be able to afford everything this summer. Maybe I'll have luck that ONE TIME and win a visa lottery? I know that US is not a promised land, but I could as well trim sheep fur there, no probs! just take me away from here, please 
What concerns me in EU is the racism. Poles flooded UK, they are everywhere and they are as obnoxious and annoying as they are here. I'm not surprised the locals are beyond tired. I don't want to be caught in the middle of that. In general, I don't want to go where I'm completely unwanted. From what I gathered, Americans mostly dislike Mexicans trying to get across the border, Poles aren't much of a concern outside cities where there's a lot of them, like Chicago. It's quite important to me not to be hated or considered "foreign invader" based on my nationality.

I'll have a job soon, Doom, but I prefer not to transform the currency or think about how much people earn in the West because the difference is ridiculous and yet nothing I can do about it.
So... it's not fair. But that's the way it is. Do whatever I can to survive under the conditions.
And if that should fail, maybe I can take a tip from the Pole in your opening post

You know, maybe you should consider following their path. Sounds less stressful than this never ending Internet melodrama about the s***ty salaries in Poland and how every repudiated proletarius in the West lives better than you. Who knows, might turn out that the joys of life are immaterial... or at least liquid.

Heh, don't get me wrong, I'm very well acquainted with the... issue. There are still a thousand places on this planet where you'll probably live worse than where you are now and probably even more where you won't live as well as you expect.

Or just go and gut fish at a norgestani factory for 3 months straight and when they come back they blow all the cash in nightclubs.

You can also earn a living by smuggling things from countries with low tax on something into those with high tax - say fags from Poland to Germany, or booze from the Baltics to Sweden.
Or even stuff that is not illegal in one country, but is in another, say dope from the Netherlands to anywhere else.
I fail to see the point here.
